    Outside of major cities it's pretty much impossible to make a career in anything requiring a degree. That's the primary reason people move there.

    Now, suppose we decide to take a billion dollars away from Bill Gates and distribute it to one thousand people in San Francisco, giving them an additional $100,000 over what they might already have in their possession.

    The point of UBI is that you no longer has to live near a major city to make a living. More people can go live in lower cost of living parts of the country when they have a passive income.

    The bending problem was overblown. It required a lot of force to make it happen (Samsung phones were easier to bend but more flexible), and didn't cause malfunction.

    Don't use recursion for efficiency.

    I don't think it's ever more efficient using recursion instead of loops, it's usually the opposite. With recursion there's an overhead of maintaining the stack, so converting it into a loop makes it more efficient.

    There were a lot of "enterprise" software written for the C64 in the late 80ies in the communist block because it didn't fell under the import ban.

    It also supported a lot of peripherals, like floppy disk, hard drive and mouse. It also had a lot of documentation in German, which was easier to learn in the Eastern block.

    No. Energy generation is a very difficult thing in that entire grid must stay within certain tolerance levels. We're talking about gigawatts per hour, so your swimming pool would have to be a size of a large lake or two and would obviously not be worth the cost.

    Or you need a lot of small swimming pools. My water boiler uses so called "night current" which is sporadic excess electricity sold at a discounted price. (I live in Hungary.)

    Have you tried to upgrade a Xubuntu installation? Mine fell apart spectacularly. (I guess there was a conflict between the graphical shells, because my window decoration disappeared.)

    They had to pay huge amounts of money for reparations. It had nothing to do with being non-functioning.

    I don't see how that is true. In Javascript you can add new methods to objects during runtime, so that's the same problem that prevents Python to be properly compiled, isn't it?

    To be honest, a proper green card immigrant is still preferable than H1-B, because a H1-B can be blackmailed with deportation by his employer. A green card holding immigrant is more likely to stand up for his rights than an H1-B (because the latter ties him to one specific employer).
