really? IO hadn't realised. I was more thinking of mainstream suppliers tho. I was about to say those would be damn expensive, but heck, when you buy a flat and widescreen, you're going to pay a lot anyway, what's another couple of thousand huh?
flat panel widescreens are 'almost' everywhere in Auckland, heck I even remembered seeing widescreen in DUNEDIN of all places back in 93 when I started at Otago.
gives you RGB colour. What really gets me in NZ is that those idiots at Sony sell us the Euro SCART, but I have yet to find a television on sale which has a Euro SCART port duh. Not even Sony sells them, I have checked in their catalog of NZ products. We do however have television sets with S-video, not as good as SCART I know, but still better than those damn RC line ports, but do Sony doesn't sell the S-viso cables. Geniuses.
Sony/Phillips. Then Sony went their own way with DAT and Phillips with DCC *urk* and the Sony came back with MD. Both Sony and Phillips are working on the DVD format alternative to DVD-RAM (can't remember what it's called)
when I was typing up my thesis, I found that I just could not review it on screen. I hated scrolling up and down to read a page. I had to print the damn thing out and only then I found I could make changes and review it more carefully (I know you can track changes ands add notes in MS Word). And each time I printed the damn thing out, I always had this guilt conscience that I was contributing to the more dead trees.
I think the main problem is that the aspect ratio of screen monitors are more in line with television screens. We need more monitors which have an aspect ratio which follows papaer sizes. Hopefully this will help the paperless office issue.
these were exactly my thoughts, and here I was wondering what the heck Iwas missing when people were talking about Dreamcast ports going to be made easier for the PC.
My sister is terrible...she comes home, sits in front of the computer and logs on. She is on for atleast 4 hours, and plays nothing but IRC. She gets shitty when someone wants to use the phone, we have only one phone line to *discourage* this hogging of the line by a certain internetter, but i doesn't appear to work. She thinks that since everyone at home as a mobile, calls in and out should be made thru those.
I on the other hand do use it for about 4-5 hours/day (usu), but if I don't use it I don't get worked up about it...although if I don't use if for 4 days I freak out because I haven't refreshed my houses on UO, or agonise what my mail is going to do to the mailserver.
As for TV, I can't say I watch much of it since my undergrad days (starting 1993) when I lived in a dorm and could never be bothered walking to the TV room. Never even bothered to watch when I did have a TV in my room. I will have to agree with something Bill Gates has said, and I quote from the book 'The Microsoft Way' pp143:
If a kid is addicted to a personal computer, I think that is far better than watching TV, because at least his mind is making choices. I'm not one of these people who hates TV, but I don't think it exercises your mind much. I don't happen to own one.
noise just bites. Lately my soundcard (SB64 ISA) has been making strange squeeky noises, and I don't have cheap speakers either, I run my sound through a stereo system. Perhaps I should get that SoundBlaster Live PCI I've been thinking about.
Another thing, my GSM mobile fscks ups my screen whenever it's in use, and when ever there's a bloody GSM signal floaing about, speakers (any speakers, TV, stereo headphone) make this irritating blip blip blip noise. grrrr
Women don't play? Perhaps not in Western cuulture so much, bu heck, my gf is always asking me to go to the aracdes, play Age of Empires. The arcades I go to, full of asian females playing games. Probably first dragged along by their boyfriends> I'd swear I'd never to that to my girlfriend, but it kindof doesn't count when she *wants* to go. Happiness is a partner who enjoys video games (and pinball, I love pinball).
hey I always thought that an American billion was 'a million million', compared to the British billion as 'a thousand million' Myth or fact? If fact, then I am afraid Maxtor and other HDD companies are ripping us off more than the 73 MB per so called GB, and Bill Gates is really really rich.
hey, I though high school was terrible, never had a girlfriend, but fancied plenty of them. Then there was college, arrggghhh, it was those feelings of adolescences again, but this time some gals actually fancied me for once...but I still didn't know what to do >_
And the scary thing, the article mentions that...guys 25-40 with no social skills.
I have a girlfriend now, been with her for 5 years, but I recall a year ago I was walking between campuses with a reasonably attractive chick whom I had known for about a year, and got on quite well, but left alone, it was like the firs date from hell...what the hell do you talk about?
I am afraid if left to find a girlfriend *again* I'd probably fail...
here here, I agree with you wholeheartedly. MP3's bite, with that much compression, you *have* to believe the quality is going to be inferior to CDs. My feeeling for Minidisc are kinda mixed, they work kinda like JPEG files, lossy compression, but loss stuff normal human sensories can not pick up anyway. What I am really pissedf about is where is my DAT! Oh wait, they they fit and fart anywy...
If I recall, as Dick Solomon from Third Rock once said 'hah! CDs, when will these human realise the superior sound quality of vinyl?'
Shoddy as the Dream castis, I recall the Saturn was a nightmare in side, but the box is SOLID as a rock. I can't rememeber how many times my friens have had to take they PSX in to get fixed, while my gf's brother's Saturn never missed a beat. My future concern is tho whether the Saturn (Japanese version anyway) is subject to the Y2K bug. I'm confident the PSX isn't.
Anyway, with the OS's, from what I gather, MS was involved, but their role does not appear to be as large as first anticipated, and many developers do not choose to use WinCE as the choice for their games anyway.
This is some thing which has been brewing in my mind for quite some time. I like to think genres which suceed on consoles are different to those which suceed on the PC. I am not always right, but from my personal exposure to console games, this appears to be the case, platform, rpg beat'em ups work well on consoles, where as RTS and first person shoot em ups are the rage on PC's.
How does this relate to resolution, well, the genres which succeed on console do not need eye candy for someone to appreciate the game. However, for the PC, image appears to be everything. Focus on game developement is on the game play, obviously good graphics are a bonus. This has always been a difference between American/European game developemnt and Japanese game development (echoed so many times in Next Generation and Edge).
So resolution and graphics may suck on a TV, but I'm sure a lot happier playing on my PSX than my PC. BTW, has anyone every thoough playing on a PC just doesn't 'feel' the same as a console.
I saw one of these about three years ago (yes *three* years ago) at a computer expo in New Zealand. I was going to test a pair out but the damn rep ignored me and took them away...silly bag. Hmmm, I've just got my holiday pay...perhaps I'll ge a pair:)

world cup rugby on the big screen :P yum. and ya, Go All Black F*** them all!
and I have one. Used to use it a lot, but now I play Age of Empires on it against my girlf friend. She's a tcatical genius, just kick my sorry ass.

it's The Mushroom that deals with gaming issues, in the spirit of The Onion.

It's gotta be ring worm, classic text book example...
seriously, yeah you don't have to enlarge it to see it, but it must be huge if it is not an artifact of the photo.
...ambrosia :P~~~ There better not be any bugs in my ambrosia

what I'd like to know is how some one stublled on to this article. Did he got to a search site and tap in 'sex life technician'

Market System:
you trade one cow for three sheep
Beauracracy:
the government takes your three cows, kills two, and pours the milk down the drain
Fascism:
the government takes all your cows, and sells you milk
Communism:
the government takes all your cows and gives you milk

but will it allow me to understand 'women talk' as well? Nnow that would be an acheivement.
