  1. Religion is not all bad. on What Scientists Really Think About Religion · · Score: 1

I'm an atheist. Richard Feynman is my hero. I'm very much against judging others based on religion alone. Many religious people in America are not judgemental, it's just that the judgemental folks tend to be the loudest.

Discussing morals and difficult decisions in life is definitely important, and many churches talk about these hard decisions. Churches also do a lot of volenteer work. It is important to remember that most religious texts were written before stuff like physics was known about, and discuss the parables accordingly. Religion also provided a form of government and stuff like health codes back in the day, so it is not surprising that religion is so ingrained in our culture. People who treat the Bible literally need to wake up and look around though. And respecting a person less just because they don't believe in a God is terrible. But just because we're scientists here doesn't mean we should throw out all the benefits religion has on our culture. We can be more decerning than that!

I just moved to Berkeley less than a year ago and I didn't know a single soul up here. Facebook is great for remembering acquaintences you see, and then adding them as a friend gets some recognition between you and them. Without Facebook I wouldn't have been able to put names to faces nearly as quickly. For me, Facebook isn't for friends, it's for getting to know new people.

I grew up gaming on PCs. It started with Wolf 3D (the original) and continued until I burned myself out on five years of Counterstrike (Beta 0.52? to 1.5).

As an adult with no time I've come to appreciate the convenience and cheapness of consoles. At first I hated joysticks. After GT4, Uncharted 2, and a shitload of Modern Warfare 2, I can now top the scoreboard with three people sitting next to me, and I can do it far more often than I could have LAN parties. While a mouse still gives better control than a joystick, many of the same skills do transfer. Strategy does change slightly, many a lot more running because you can't check your six, but pwning my friends is fun no matter the method, and with a PS3 I can do it waaaaaaay more often.

It is my opinion that a junkie should have to get his fix at a health center, complete with counciling, offers to go to rehab, and literature. The opportunities to help a junkie get clean would be much more numerous than if he goes to his shady drug dealer instead. (Bonus: We get rid of the black markets and reduce our prison population of non-violent criminals.)

Why does it have to be either all society's fault or all the kid's fault? Can't we take the enlightened point of view that both affect how a person grows and develops into an adult? (I'd like to point out that helping society helps the environment of many people, and helping an individual has a positive effect on society as a whole.)

Throw these people IN JAIL! If any citizen did this, they would be IN JAIL! If any citizen did this to my child, I would throw their ass TO JAIL!!! (And then strongly suggest they get some therapy for being a pedophile.) Fines take money away from taxpayers and the education system anyway.

If something like this ever happened to my kid, there's no fucking way I'm going to let the PEOPLE SPYING ON MY KIDS to convince me that none of them are pedophiles!!! It really seems *likely* that a pervert in education somewhere would support spying software like this. He can seem tough with security and record hours and hours of underage teens at the same time!

Government decides what is legal and illegal, thus government decides morals, and thus the government can do no wrong. (People in government believe this shit!!!)
