Lucky bastard, at least he knows when he will be released. Elsewhere in the world, "terrorists" get thrown in prison camps without trial and no release date. It's funny how governments around the world use the word terrorist as some sort of chewbacca defense to get everyones eyes off the real subject...
MS did use its os monopoly to create a browser monopoly. By bundling IE with windows which no other browser could do. If IE had stayed a separate download, would Netscape have fallen? Probably not. Would we have better browsers today because of competition? Very likely.

the debugging in Visual Studio is awesome
Only in vs.net. How do you stop a VB6 program running and endless loop in the debugger? Besides killing VB?
XP restarts on a STOP error which is an error that would otherwise just freeze the machine. STOP errors are displayed in blue screens but they are not the same thing. Non-STOP bluescreens (heh) are not very common with XP.

Example: Look at Rap. Rap recycles old music into newer stuff. Should that be outlawed too?
Yes! Yes! Yes! Pleeaase! I will offer a pint of the blood of my firstborn child to whoever outlaws rap!
1. XML rules. And it is really no less plain text than.ini files. What we need is a *powerful* gconf-editor. Searching is still very basic stuff, if fact gconf-editor was hopelessly broken without it. We also need a mechanism that makes sure old stale config keys don't get left in the registery. Better stuff would be metadata for keys.
2. A nautilus view with all the capplats would be nice.
4. Nautilus is your friend.
5. No..not gmc..Nooooo! Why would you like to browse the Internet and your local computer with the same software?
6. Ximian desktop? (I don't use it) Isn't this what the distros do?
7. How about creating a toolkit-neutral theming system that both kde and gtk+ can use.
8. There are 3rd party config software available for this.
We have had a big bunch of Seagates dying over the last 2 years. All of the were of the same type (U5). The truth is that all hdd manufacturers get it wrong every now and then and come up with a crappy model. Most hdds sold are ok. The IBM Deathstars are legendary.
In Helsinki University the UI classes are overcrowded despite them requiring several leage ui design exercises including ui testing and a lot of work in general. One you take a gui class you begin to see why many of gnomes recent design choices (like auto-apply) make sense. If they would only start getting rid of all the useless confirmation dialogs as well. They can all be replaced by undo functions.
If this is based on Eclipse as mentioned elsewhere in this discusson, then the office suite is written in java rendering to native widgets. Because the Eclipse SDK is running on Linux using gtk+, I don't think IBM will fumble this one. If they want to go for a cheap office system, a free/cheap os must be supported.
Come on, how paranoid can you get? How can M$ control what files all 3rd party antivirus software scan for? Why would they do this in the first place, viruses are one reason people are moving servers to linux.
All the DRM and fine-grained ACLs in the world won't matter if a service the system has buffer overruns. Then you can remotely modify the service by inserting your own code into the running, *trusted* program.
If someone gets a heart attack as a result of reading your post, could you be held at least partly responsible for that? Besides, 100% complete testing of programs that "accept any input" is not possible. Therefore at least moderately complex programs must be assumed to have bugs. This is a simple, mathematically proven fact. This is also the reason for all those scary EULAs.
The U.S. seem to think they can prosecute people who have committed crimes outside the U.S. as well. Even if they were not crimes in the country they were committed. Remember that russian guy? A virus writer would have to be in the U.S. to be caught, however.
This wouldn't be possible in Finland. If your job duties require more than 40 hours a week and you don't get compensated (extra free time is compensation as well) then the fault isn't yours. Your company needs to hire more people.

If you get fired because you won't do work that you wouldn't get paid for, sue. A strike is preferrable though, since that way nobody has to loose their jobs.
I have tested a number if penis enlargement pills bought from the Internet over the last two years and I can say they all work! My penis is now over 5 yards long and still growing several inches per day! Pretty soon I can use it to fetch beer from the fridge, put a new disc in the cd-player or scratch my back. Then I will be a happy man.
You can form really nice, short and clear words like: epajarjestelmallistyttamattomyydellaansakohan. Iam not going to even try to disassemle and translate that:).

??? The added decompression time for bz2 is much smaller than the added download time for gzip. So you *do* get both.

Why bother (in this case) when bittorrent is much faster?

You can solve the constant connection requirement by using CPIP to connect to the Internet.
In other news Duke Nukem Forever was just released today.
