That is why Al Gores book is covered with photoshopped hurricanes including one turning in the wrong direction.
There are a lot of problems with some of the stuff you have stated, but I want to address this one in particular. The graphical design company that designed the cover of Al Gore's Book/DVD/etc was Australian. Cyclones (Hurricanes in the Western Pacific) spin clockwise when south of the equator. They spin counter-clockwise when North of the equator. It wasn't "wrong" for them.
Unity 10.10 is far worse than unity in 11.04. Just closing firefox would sometimes crash unity (note: unity would auto-restart). The movement of taskbar icons when the mouse was over it made no sense. Plus, the taskbar didn't auto-hide. On a netbook, that meant precious landscape waste. Also, firefox wasnt properly integrated with unity yet, so there was wasted space at the top due to two titlebars!
ALL of these problems were fixed (and others) on the Natty I tested two weeks ago.
I know this show is popular with a lot of people, but for me Mythbusters is about the most boring show ever. In any given show, only about five minutes of it is interesting. The rest of it is irritatingly dull, bullshit speculation, or repeating what the viewer just saw right before the last commercial break. And every show, EVERY show has to involve blowing something up. It's nice to see Jamie Hyneman doing something useful for a change. However, I hope he gets to the point if/when he finally demonstrates his armor to the military brass. Otherwise they'll be nodding off, looking at their watches.
Unless, of course, the armor is made of actual "military brass"!
I'll give you another: Enthought. They drive the development community around NumPy, SciPy, and Matplotlib. They do sell packaged versions (EPD), but primarily derive their revenue from selling targeted software development services to companies.
Admittedly, it is a BSD style license, not GPL, but those companies were free to develop their software using the same tools themselves. Enthought makes money because they have the mineshaft and the experience to best utilize those packages.
The business models surrounding free software are different from traditional business models. This does not make them any less valid, only different.
Just as a quick note, the way to deal with Contacts from GMail is to set up an Exchange interface with your GMail account (for contacts only, of course). Then all of your contacts will be automatically synced (changes to your contacts on your iPhone will be reflected in your GMail account, and changes to your contacts in your GMail account will be reflected on your iPhone).
Doesn't surprise me that it would take seven minutes, because while the living quarters might be small, the microgravity environment lets you use literally every square foot. On Earth, you can't use your floor and ceiling as shelves.
Looks at floor... already done.
Looks at ceiling... hmmm, I will have to get back to you on that one.
So they stopped doing ceremonies for the weather gods. This is surely not the only case. So people stop worshipping weather gods, and the climate goes wild. Coincidence? Unlikely! So now we have proof: Global warming is man-made, by neglecting weather ceremonies!
Yes, absolutely. Now bring me more poison-tainted leaves, or suffer an inconvenient winter storm!
A professor once said "an EF4 will clear the concrete slab the house was built on, an EF5 will clear the ground the concrete slab was built on". Don't know if it is a little bit of an exaggeration, but I would rather not find out.
Says who? Anybody that I know who is serious about the viability and practicality of EVs see the vehicles as replacing gas-powered vehicles only where it makes sense to do so -- not as some blanket 'one-size-fits-all' thing. I certainly do not see EVs replacing off-road vehicles, long-haul tractor trailers, and other such vehicles. Anybody who claims that EVs will totally displace ICE vehicles anytime in the foreseeable future is smoking some crazy stuff and/or is on the marketing teams for EVs. In either case, their prognosis should be taken with a grain of salt and an ounce of reality.
Ok, so an EV is not the best tool for you. That's fine, and anybody trying to tell you otherwise is just as much a fool as those who claim that EVs are not viable for a significant portion of the population.
My backup plan for long distances would be to rent a gas car. We already do this in a manner of speaking for very long trips. Do you own a plane for those once or twice a year trips to visit family, or do you do like everybody else and just buy a ticket?
Agreed. I have an EeePC 1000, and I hate how I have lost the horizontal real estate in firefox, but have not gained in vertical real estate. One point of the Unity interface was that the program's menu bar was supposed to be integrated with the Unity's top bar which grants you much desired vertical space. While most of the gnome programs have been adapted for this, for some reason, Firefox's menu bar still shows up *below* the top bar in Unity.
I am sorry, but on a netbook, or just about any desktop computer, Firefox is the primary program running. Why haven't they fixed this?
On a side note, there must have been some significant work put into improving graphics performance as video playback is much better on my Eee.
I have to agree with the flash/hulu sentiment. My EeePC had flash/hulu working beautifully with the stock Xandros install. However, due to other issues, I switched over to UNR, and flash performance sucked. I never could quite figure out what Asus did to make everything work properly.
Anyway, with the latest flash from Adobe and 10.04, things are "better". Not quite as good with Xandros, mind you, but better than before. My occasional attempts with 10.10 didn't fully exercise flash, but it seems like it got a little bit better.

Wasn't that Bob the Guardian?
Thanks! I was waiting for a "Reboot" reference.

You do realize that slashdot is not the bug tracker for Firefox, right?
Which ISP please so I know who to avoid?

Nah, that never will happen! (For those who didn't get it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cassandra)
Hmm, I haven't noticed that on my 4th gen iPod touch. Then again, the longest I have let it sleep was for a weekend.

Oh, my. That makes me see SCSI in that show, Reboot, (Hexadecimal's pet) in a different light...

And thus solving the problem forever!
Can I also get a "whoooosh" with that, or is that extra?

This was probably some time after Illinois whomped Penn State's butt.
Yeah, rub it in, why don't you?

True, and it is probably better to leave out the "cystic" part of the name anyway, as it has a negative connotation.
