  1. This is the same kind of speculative propaganda as "as China becomes wealthier, it will become democratic". It's a mix of bigoted assumptions that Chinese culture will for some strange reason follow Western development model and just blind naivete driven by Chinese state propaganda.

Reality stands in stark contrast to these claims:

  2. None, but those go into essentially every battery powered power tool, clock, and pretty much any other appliance that has rechargeable battery functionality.

And you don't get just one cell. Power tools often pack half a dosen to a dosen of those in each battery pack for example.

They already have. Vive had its second gen refresh. It generated zero traction.

And like I mentioned, nvidia utterly ignored this in their massive PR push for 20xx series.

Didn't they release just some highly unpopular mods to their mainline products that have VR bolted on top with the software equivalent of duct tape and a little hammering?

Which have gained little to no traction in VR world because of it. It's just like other similar "titles" from big name studios slapping a VR mod on their major titles, like Doom VR. Sounds like a good mod to existing game, until you try it and realise that gameplay is just awful compared to original because of VR limitations.

The "mobile phone grade graphics VR" has been out for a long time, using Oculus' tech no less. It's awful, because of lack of GPU capability. This will suffer from all the same problems that Samsung phone VR does, and why it's barely a curiosity.

Desktop VR on the other hand sorta kinda has the ability to deliver at least some level of meaningful performance. But it's dying off. Nvidia's 10xx series release a couple of years ago was swimming in "VR ready" PR. Recent 20xx series? I don't think there was even a mention of VR, much less any kind of a PR drive. Which tells you everything you need to know what people who are actually making and selling hardware to VR's target audience that is necessary to run VR think about it.

And that tells you everything you need to know about the state of VR market today. It's a niche market that few if any developers develop software for, and none of the developed applications have any real chance of selling more VR headsets. The only meaningful market that was borne out of it was various simulators for hardcore crowds that already bought their >1k specialized controller device, be it a super accurate HOTAS combo or a Eurotruck driving setup, and won't even blink at spending another four digits on a GPU and a headset to make their flying/trucking experience even more immersive.

And that seems to account for overwhelming majority of VR market that actually moves units and titles today. Everything else is basically VR chat Uganda Knuckles memes. Google it if you don't know what I'm talking about.

  8. Actually no. This is far worse.

"Do no evil" is an injunction against action. "Do good" is compelling to act in a certain way. When considered within legal framework, as rules should be, these are two doctrinal polar opposites.

Former is the cornerstone of what is considered modern liberal justice system, where "everything that isn't specifically forbidden is allowed, and authority cannot dictate how you must act".

    Such as "do no evil".

Latter is the cornerstone of illiberal systems, like one that existed in Soviet Union. "Everything that isn't allowed is forbidden, and you're required to act in a way dictated by the authority".

    Such as "do good".

It is a sign of a radical change in the whole model of thinking of company leadership to the polar opposite of what they wanted to represent when they started.

Problem being that intel is actually going for non-PR speak 10nm (which is PR speak 7nm) and intel is going for high power chips, not low power ones. Latter being the likely reason why it's so hard to get anything out in meaningful numbers. This isn't for memory or mobile chips as is the case with TSMC process. There's a reason why high power chip majors like nvidia aren't touching the TSMC's PR speak 7nm process with a ten metre pole. It's unsuitable for purpose at the moment.

Telltale games were very new and fresh when first walking dead came out. They looked like you had a huge amount of impact on the story by acting in certain ways at certain points, which was reinforced with many psychological tricks.

Problem is, "fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me". Once you tried to replay these games for a few times, you understood the underlying mechanisms tricking you into thinking that you had an impact when you really didn't have all that much. So the next game, you came armed with this knowledge, reducing the enjoyment. And this effect cumulated rapidly.

So it was inevitable that eventually most people who were in the target audience got mighty bored of essentially being constantly tricked into thinking that their actions matter when they really don't. And so, sales tanked. They had a good run though, and I think most of us still remember the first walking dead with some degree of warmth, as is the case with the wolf among us.

The final nail in the coffin was the blatant cash grabs with new episodes that were clearly just there to cash in. I guess that killed whatever was left of any good will from the customers.

  25. The new motto is "do good" iirc. Essentially meets requirements of your points to a tee.
