If I sign up for something anything that wants an email address I usually use businessname@mydomain.com for the address. I get a lot of funny looks when I feed back an email address with their name in it (even had a few people accuse me of attempting to hack their system by doing this!).
It's not a good idea to use the business's own name as it is likely to be rejected either automatically or by some person as you say (unless you enjoy the wind-up). I use some word that helps reminds me of the business, like "mike" for Misco (a UK computer supplier). In fact I keep a table to relate the email name to the company.
I just like to troll the spammers. Anything that makes it past my spam filter is fair game.
So do I. I am currently getting spam from geof.gibbons@stampwood.co.uk who is not just a spammer, it's even worse - his company is a spam consultancy. They call it "Automated Marketing".
Hi there, I do too. It's brilliant. I just worry that too many people will use it as the guy who runs it (for free) could probably not afford too much traffic.
If you have your own domain, there are people out there who will append the site name to their email address when they sign up......... then as you receive spam you can see where it orignated from...due to them sharing your email ( or if it was stolen ). Would be interesting to know if anyone has done this and identified the original source of the data.
I do that, and I received one of these scam emails yesterday. The address is the one I use for ebay, and only for ebay. I receive other spam with my ebay address too.
When I read this story I had just been in the process of trying to complain to ebay about spammers getting my address. I looks though that it is practically impossible to compalin to ebay. Their "Contact Us" link only leads to a FAQ of some typical problems (not spamming problems though), and ultimately round in a circle.
[3D Printers] Enough said. Watch the flow of negative replies under this post.
Here's one (negative reply):-
3-D printers will be used, but they are not a game-changer. I would place them on about the same level as say Dymo label printers or super-glue.
I am a practical guy and make and repair a lot of stuff, but would not see much use for one. To make a replacement part with one I'd first need to code in the shape I wanted; I could probably make the thing by other means faster.
No form of transport will ever be a game changer now or in the future unless:-
(1) it provides cover against the weather,
(2) the average 75 year old feels safe with it, and
(3) 99% of disabled people can use it.
75 year olds or 99% of disabled people do not actually have (or want) to use it; in fact they won't. It is just that the principle is a political pre-requisite.
Windows was probably the single biggest driver for the mass adoption of computers in the 90s that transitioned them from a work/niche device to a home must have.
No, games and the ability to work at home were the main factors. Personal computers were heading for mass adoption with or without Windows, with or without the IBM compatible PC. They were already taking off nicely with the likes of Amigas, Amstrads, BBC micros, Commodores etc.
Why do you people have such problems with the concept of judgement? "Drawing the line" is something that comes up all the time in law courts, even in murder cases. That is why you have judges - experienced and intelligent people - to judge where to draw the line rather than clerks with rule books presiding over courts.
That is how the legal system works in the UK anyway. Perhaps you problem is just an American problem.
The West has a shortage of nubile women because, as an unintended consequence of women being able to earn equal salaries, many have turned their back on men completely, or after a short fling. Others (large numbers in the UK, don't know about the USA) have a child while single and then permanently withdraw from the "dating" scene to bring up their child - while the Jock father is back in the dating scene the very next day. Hence the innumerable complaints (in Internet forums generally and quite often here) from the less Jock-like men that they cannot find a girlfriend (often leading to the disasterous Thai/Russian bride route). [Before you ask, I am married, and not to a Thai bride]. I see a future (in a generation or two) where most women are either career followers or hookers, and male-female partnerships the exception.
So thousands of single male immigrants from India or anywhere else is the last thing the West needs as a society. To hell with Facebook increasing its already massive profits; it might be more ethical for them to invest in brothels and just import female H-1B workers.
But how can I know how to vote with my wallet? Do you expect me to trial the disconnection experience with every available provider by signing up with them all, then disconnecting from them all for comparison, then finally re-signing up with the one that went best? Or should I go by the anecdotes that I hear - that say they are all awful?
What ever happened to Caveat Emptor? Don't buy a cable from El Cheapo Cables Inc. There's plenty of reputable brands to choose from.
You do realise do you that "El Cheapo Cables Inc" is a ficticious name being used as an example and that no electronics company would really call itself something that sounds cheap and nasty? So unless you are a pro or an enthusiast familiar with the business you will not know what the "plenty of reputable brands" are. And you cannot necessarily go by price as a company making rubbish might charge a higher price just because there are always people (like yourself?) who assume that a higher price means higher quality. There are so many factors in the final retail price of an item like a cable that the manufactured quality has little to do with it directly.
I recently bought some leads for a test meter. I eventually bought three sets before finding one of adequate quality (the other two sets I threw away). I had never heard of any of the brands on offer (I've never bought test leads before in my life), and the best set was in fact the cheapest.
That is why standards are needed - to stop the waste of time, resources and money.
Plenty of other distros use Debian as a base (directly, not via Ubuntu), not to mention Debian itself; I'm using SolydX for example. So not a reason in itself to use Ubuntu.
I'd never heard of Bakersfield, and Googling brings up somewhere in California. Yet TFA refers to a UK man, and he is going on trial in Nottingham (UK). Can someone explain?
Well, it is worth noting this is the City of London Police,. These chumps have deliberately profiled themselves as lapdogs of big entertainment, not surprising since the City of London itself is entirely corporate with corporations for voters and so on, so it may well not directly be taxpayer money they're burning.
The City of London has very few residents, being almost entirely offices, pubs, cafes and shops. Hardly suprising that they mostly investigate crimes against businesses, who are indeed the main local taxpayers. "Big entertainment" ? You are thinking of the West End of London, it's not part of the City.
Drop recordings - throw them away. Support the artist directly via live performance.
Very convenient. I just fancy listening to some music, and I must somehow find out where live music is being performed at that moment, then get the car out and drive somewhere miles away to do so.
You don't even need to get that deep..... I got into the habit of pulling the coil wire out... Car thieves aren't generally going to stick around it doesn't start in 10 seconds of cranking
You don't even need to go that deep (... under the hood; I would not fancy pulling the coil wire off in my best suit.)
I added a key switch inside the car that cuts the power to the starter motor relay. Car thieves are even more discouraged if the car does not even crank.

Am I the only person still using spamgourmet.com?

You will need a No Pacemaker sign at the end of the street.

Segways etc fail. Self driving cars might succeed.

Or partially nude.

the challenges in supplying medications, for example regions without facilities for storing pills
How hard is it to store pills, FFS? So they will need a facility to store this machine instead then. Sales talk at its finest.
I don't see that gender is going to matter here.
But it does raise the issue of sex imbalance.

We could .... not screw over either demographic [Indian females and American black males]
You should look at more porn sites. Doesn't look to me like American black males are the ones being screwed over.
I have a secondary bank account that I would not mind shuttering at any time. I use it for all direct debits subs and on-line purchases.
what if there's someone creating a malware that goes out and cancels every subscription for Comcast?
Bring it on!

Ubuntu has the advantage of his Debian base

I lost interest in Ubuntu a long time ago.
I suspect banks like the system of holding onto deposits and not updating balances immediately. There may be technical reasons too .......
Yes, the technical reason is that the banks were wired up in the olden days when the speed of light was only 2mph.
Thanks.
Now, how do I solve World hunger?
I'd never heard of Bakersfield, and Googling brings up somewhere in California. Yet TFA refers to a UK man, and he is going on trial in Nottingham (UK). Can someone explain?
Don't worry, as long as you you wear a suit and a tie ... there will be no problem.
Well, a suit and tie won't cost you much.

The keys work via proximity (like RFID or NFC) and the iginition is a button. The door unlocks as you approach the car.
I have obviously got an old-fashioned car as I completely failed to understand this story until I read your comment.
WTF, are people incabable of pushing a button on their fob any more?
Personally, I would rather choose the moment when my car doors lock or unlock, not leave it to proximity.
