MS has publically stated that it is creating DRM as an OPTION for it's customers. We can argue if this breaks the entire concept of DRM, but that's not the point.
I refuse to believe that MS, a company that has lied before, will release something as crippled as this for no reason at all. It is optional as you say, but when backed up with bought laws then that option could potentially put you in jail.
I think the only use for big drives is for pirating and warezing
Porn.. don't forget the porn.
Seriously tho, 100Gb is nothing in the world of video editing. Some companys have databases using up Terabytes of storage.
Except I can't see these large drives being used there to much for now, esp. with the questionable reliability rate.
I'd much rather see more reliable drives than higher capacity ones. The bigger they are, the more data you can loose. And for some people, data is there most valuable resource.
Still using a T1? We used those ages ago, upgraded a bit since then.
We tested our T1 by sending it out to destroy a small village. It turned out that it wasn't water proof, and was quickly stopped.
We are up to the T1000 now, just about to send it on it's first test to. The lawyers couldn't do anything about them humans reverse engineering our model T101 CPU, even when threatened with the DMCA. So we hope this will sort them out.
I wonder how far they'd push the term 'software'. A lot of people out there have Linux or similar systems on a machine alongside Windows. Microsoft would love nothing more than to remove it because 'It encourages piracy' or 'bypasses our Media Player security features'.
I bet the first thing they'd remove are the DivX codecs.
This would cost a small fortune, those lil' computers ain't cheap. Not to mention, they are very easy to loose! It's hard to loose a laptop down the back of a sofa:)
Couple this with the previous story about Microsoft working to create a 'standard' codec for mobile phones, and you could have bad news!
Maybe they see this market coming and want to be in the middle of it before it even starts, with there own patented video codec alongside the 'open' audio codec they are working to create.
What are the odds that any video phone would use entirely open systems?
Good point!
It's the ones who don't ask for donations that we should worry about.
The annoying thing about politics is there is to much politics.
We need $5000 to produce commercials to throw these guys out of the water. Donate to this campaign.
:)
Not even a please? Awww....
I can't see her getting far, but I wish her good luck! We need more people like this!
Perhaps a little less demanding tho

So yes, that *is* the point.
And this section of there website, you can view these videos. Very much publicly accessible.
They even provide MPEGs for those Quicktime-impared.

Oh,. and did I mention porn?
We could call the place where we leave them 'Alpha', then a strange accident blasts the moon out of the solar system....
.. that idea's just stupid.
Nah
*ahem*
Judge: Node 152.67.122.97, you have been found guilty of copyright theft ... hey get back here .. where'd you go?
.. Node 80.225.52.101, you have ... what's that you say? Ping Timeout??
Executive: Look! There's another one...
Judge: *sigh*
Executive: I dunno who this 'Peer' guy is, but he's good at covering up his tracks.
I've watched that movie and never even recognised the song. Thanks mate !!
Does anyone know the name of the music they used in that promo?

What we need is a reliable, fast and cheap system to back up those 200+GB disk arrays without fuss and preferably on a single piece of media.
I can almost imagine the horror this would generate in the MPAA offices.
Wonder if they read slashdot...
TidBITS hub in particular.
.. *router in peace*
RIP
Most users are not worried about those things because they have nothing to hide
Just because something is hidden, does not mean it's illegal or bad.
Sure, most users won't care. And that's there choice and right. The important thing is to have the that choice.
the Lord of the Rings DVD is coming out on tuesday (or monday midnight for some stores)
Or Saturday for some internet DVD shops! The postman just dropped my copy thru the letterbox! Now that's service

the only 3 files modified are kern_synch.c, kern_switch.c and proc.h, plus a one-line change to kern_exit.c
.. but that's 4 files modified. One-line or a thousand, it's still been modified.
I hate to be picky

HMV and Game still occasionally stock the game. Even PC World will have it in sometimes. It's usually always in the budget section.
We all know that everyone's favourite TV show is BattleBots on Comedy Central, Right?
Nooo! Robot Wars UK is way better!!
There are some things your money can buy.
For everyone else, there's your Microsoft Passport account.

Ever get the feeling these screenshots are more about showing of the backdrops than the actual desktop manager? ;)
Sometimes I am left to wonder who the hell surrounds me here in Canada.
... you should get to know them.
That would be normal people
