    I'm uploading faster than I'm downloading. I've uploaded 4.5 MiB but only downloaded 3.2. What's going on? Is my mac using HyperTransport to send data that doesn't exist yet?

    Are they insane? From the looks of this, they're expecting to play the terrorism card to get Ashcroft on their side against IBM. I'm sure Big Blue is connected enough in Washington to make sure this ridiculous move dies the horrible death it deserves. But the very idea that this guy thinks this argument is credible enough to be believed by anyone reading Byte is disconcerting, to say the least.

    Well you're not looking in the right (or wrong, depending on your perspective) places. There are tons of hoes in LA. And depending on how you define hoe... well, let's just say there are oodles of hollywood hotties who will do anything to get close to the entertainment industry. Whether that makes them hoes is really about interpretation.

    No, no, no; then your computer will be unusable while you use the CD. Instead leave the cd stationary but make the rest of the universe spin. The computer will still be spinning, of course, but since you'll be spinning too, you can still get your work done.

Like, when we finally got OS X working, we used it to write a paper, but it was, like, 2002, and everybody was like "BEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEP, I wanna listen to techno!", so we, like, reinvented the walkman and the jukebox in one fell swoop, then brought the music industry into the twenty-first century almost as an afterthought, but people still think we're dying! And it was a really good paper. Oh well, guess I'll just go fly my plane.

    But it also means you can hire someone to fix the bug yourself. Closed source means waiting for some company to decide it's worth fixing. I think there is a strong security argument for open source in government.

    Actually, if they lied in court, they just committed perjury in their hearts. I really don't think we can accuse someone of treason for doing something they claimed would hurt national security, especially if there is no logical explanation why it would.

    If anything, this is a threat to China's national security, because once they look at the Windows source code, half their government programmers will die laughing.

    If someone discovers a new method of breaching said servers, will they be more apt to exploit it or fix it? Would you be willing to bet national security on that?

    Beats the hell out of betting national security on the decision-making bureaucracy of some for-profit corporation. When someone discovers a new method of defeating Windows security, how is it handled? Compared to when someone produces a new Linux or BSD exploit?
