How do people make the quote bars appear when you are quoting the text of the message you're replying to? Is that an automatic setting somewhere or are there characters you're inserting?
you really think that if you're in a starvation situation you're gonna be at a steakhouse?
if it came down to starvation, eating bambi would not be high on the list of possible options. Chances of finding fresh meat in such a situation are far less likely than finding edible rice, beans, nuts, vegetables. Look at starving people around the world; you think they are scrounging around for wild game or hamburgers? I'm not saying they wouldn't eat it, but if your choice of food is "whatever you can get," you're gonna find a lot more in terms of availability, cost, and shelf life in your non-meat choices.
... and I speak as a generally anti-war progressive, though by no means a pacifist. The problem is that the solution to conflict lies in political and not military institutions. Handicapping the military technologically will not prevent us from getting into wars, nor will it make them less bloody or violent. Arguably one might make the case on a technology-by-technology basis that there are certain technologies that should not be in military hands. But in general terms, keeping toys away from the generals will not help one bit in preventing wars when we have incompetent or arrogant leaders at the helm of the political system demanding pointless and poorly planned military adventures. We see case in point over and over in Iraq -- this is a war of choice. The decision to go to war has proved to have been based on poor evidence and multiple instances of misinformation, against the backdrop of an overall ignorance of the area (Bush, for example, did not know until January 2003 that there were different Islamic sects in Iraq -- when some Iraqis explained to him that the country was divided, his answer was something like "but they're all Muslims".... now, of course, we are looking at a full scale civil war due to ignorance of these divisions). I was against this decision to go to war from the very beginning. But I also was outraged to learn that the soldiers who were asked to fight the war were not given the tools to do so, like appropriately armored vehicles and clothing, surveillance technology, etc. There is no conceivable stretch by which I could imagine Rumsfeld's decision to cut corners on the military technology as an "antiwar" decision. While I applaud the spirit of those who choose to resist pointless and destructive wars of aggression, I don't think this is the best way to resist them. Join the struggle to change the political leadership instead. Trying to keep the toys out of the military's hands is a way of punishing people who aren't really responsible for the mess we're in in the first place. Instead, join the American people in punishing the real culprits at the polling place.
I'm sick of hearing about artists supporting this kind of crap. If you don't want people to learn from your creative output, don't make it public! Sit in your room and play your fancy guitar chords through your headphones. All intellectual progress has come from open sharing of ideas, not from hoarding them. I'm a DJ, and this reminds me of early DJs who used to soak their records in hot soapy water to remove the labels so that people couldn't see what record they were playing. It's yet another logical leap of absurdity, since they were playing music recorded by someone else to begin with. Luckily, the world of turntablism appears to have moved beyond that embarrassing history, as most well known DJs today share their techniques and "secrets" through classes, videos, etc. I think suing people for sharing ideas in general is nonsense, but doing it in this way - specifically attacking people for figuring something out on their own and sharing what they've learned - is uniquely execrable.
The # of slashdot posts won't tell you anything. What you need to do is count the number of posts to usenet! Now that's real data. After all, it's how we figured out BSD was dying.
The truly correct way to solve the problem is let other people buy the first generation hardware so that Apple can work out the bugs before the next release.
I want Apple to have folders merge their contents when files or folders of the same name are encountered. Currently there is no easy way to syncoronize the contents of folders with the same name.
I hope you don't want this done on the fly. You might have folders with the same name that are in different places for a reason. I certainly do. I don't want them merged or syncd. There are plenty of third party tools that will sync specified folders.
What wireless card are you using? I bought one of these a few years ago for $50, spent another $75 on various cards and adapters to try and get the information from the newton into my Mac, to no avail. Could not get a wireless connection to work, and could not get it to sync information to the Mac using serial adapters and whatnot. I LOVE the emate form factor and would use it in a second if I knew a way to transfer the information on there to my desktop or to email. Even better if I could use it to browse the web and such.

Where's the $499 intel based Mac Mini? I've been running a mac mini as a headless media server, and it is great, but it is too slow for realistic HDTV (even regular TV is sometimes a strain), at least using el gato products (there may be others that work better with the g4 speeds). When an intel mac mini comes out I will probably upgrade, but I have no use for an imac, and I don't think most people do at this price point. Sure, a lot of college kids will go for it - and I paid more than that in grad school for my first mac plus - but with $400-500 notebooks available, some that will probably even run OS X, I'm not sure how well this will do. Then again, this apparently is a replacement for the g4 eMac rather than for the g5 iMac, so the price point makes sense if you look at it that way (and the eMac g4 was a very capable machine). $899 is a lot, sure, but it won't seem like a lot when the nice man in the store explains that you will only have to pay $50 a month for it.
Now, if they come out with a black one, people will flock to this for sure. I'll be first in line!
OK, you didn't call it evil, you called it an "ancient curse." It sounds like your problem is with the person harassing you, not with Wikipedia. Some of the evidence for that is the fact that even when you removed Wikipedia from the equation by getting your article pulled, the guy kept harassing you. I'm not saying it's not annoying at times -- it's true, keeping lies off of wikipedia can be a fulltime job -- but there are ways of challenging harassment.
Yeah, wikipedia is evil. It's too bad you couldn't have just edited the offensive wikipedia entry yourself to eliminate the bogus claims and used the discussion page to insist that only claims from reputable published sources be in the encyclopedia. It's also too bad there is no RfC process that would have allowed you to get other users involved in watching the page for bogus content or to help deal with problem users.
Like mutilating cattle!
according to that wording, if the military doesn't use the software in this manner, no matter what the reason, it has violated the license.

removing all the redundant and repetitive adjectives will compress it even further

I always wondered why the Mac was considered the "gay" computer.
you don't know too many BMW drivers, do you?
just check which one has the evil bit set.
That's what they asked him to say, but in the audition all he actually said was "Matt Damon."

but in this case the whining comes from the user trying to get things compiled and running...

Also pretty nice that such an insight would be posted by someone named "complex math" :)
