A recent MSDN article quotes, "Microsoft will not mine, target, sell, or publish any data contained within the Hailstorm data store without explicit user concent."
Is there any way to have a "EULA" type thing from the USER instead of the company? Could we take legal action in the same way they can if we violate thier EULA?
You may not all be fans of Will Smith (I am), but the movie "Enemy of the State" should be seen by every American. They should ask themselves, "Do I really want to live like that?" I used to think that movie was based on an extreme imagination. Now I pray it stays as such.
Well, it doesn't _HAVE_ to be interpreted. One reason FLASH runs so well (considering all the real-time vector that it has to do) is because it's compiled. Solutions like VRML will never work (IMHO) because of the fact that they're interpreted. (Yes, I know some of you think it's this huge hog, but my PII350 runs all but the lamest FLASH at full speed).
Am I missing something, did they drop the case? AFAIK the case still moves on. No, they aren't going to split them up, but many will agree that was a short sighted solution (read: this ain't the Bells!) So, how has the US surrendered to MS?
Great, now it's "offtopic". We are talking about languages for an Open Source VM. How can this be offtopic? I hope the meta moderators deal with this one fairly.
There should be an independant association that uses a battery of benchmarks to come up with a few "measurements" that the general public can use to gauge the performance. We should implement this even now with our clock speed being almost ambiguous.
Uhm, whoever thinks C# is useless without COM is uninformed. C# only support COM for backward compatibility, and derives it's real power from the.NET platform libraries, that are part of the CLR, which is also being submitted to the ECMA.
Well, I'm the MS Shill you speak of. I don't work for MS, and they sure don't pay me to say anything. I've been doing Perl, Cold Fusion and Java for the majority of my career and excuse me for being honest about a "GREAT" technology rather then being an anti MS zealot.
What about C#? Many Java and anti-Java advocates have come to a common ground that C# is a great language. It's fully OO and very easy to code in. MS has submitted the spec to the ECMA, so isn't this possible?
Yes, they asked for Office licenses. Microsoft said, "OK". That's the process. You ask. It's called stating a need. Microsoft never said, "sorry, go buy them yourselves". How does stuff like this get modded up in the first place?
Skyshadow, your profanity is not needed, but your point is strong and apparently goes against the/. grain. It's said that you so accuratly predicted the arrogance of/. readers and moderators. Moderators: Stop moderating based on opinion.
I simply can not STAND people who judge other charity givers. I personally make a large income for my age, and whenever I give people ALWAYS comment, "Well, that's not much for him". How dare you even have a thought of critisism against a donor. How much have YOU given? Why don't you get a part time job (on top of your full time job) so that you can donate more money. You're not doing enough. Why did you upgrade your computer? You could've donated that money. What, you bought an MP3 player while people go hungry?
What makes ME ill is your arogant attitude. You feel that you have some God given intelect that allows you to determine how much is the "right amount" for an organisation to give to the "right cause".
Considering that M$ will easily make back that $5M in software replacement sales I think they should get the Cheap Bastard Award. This makes me ill.

Okay, so I can get cheap, poor performing, barely compatible $10 NIC's to run EVERY PACKET of traffic through? I thought when you set up a firewall that you wanted both NIC's to be TOP NOTCH. A decent 3COM or Intel NIC can not be found (easily) for $10. I'm sure the performance of these unit's (NIC and system) are much faster than a 486 with two cheap nix as well. I'd rather pay a few bucks more for less power consumption, better performance, and way less hassel.
But then, that's like saying that a saw is a lousy tool because it won't drive a nail easily.
You're philosphy is correct when we are talking about a Palm Pilot, not a multipurpose machine. If you want a simplified tool, buy a $99 PDA (for example). A computer IS designed to enable us to do many things - it is not designed to do very simple and specific things well.
You are right on the money with the heat issue. One of the actual architects made the same suggestion on the news. Another thing to understand is that although these buildings can handle the impact, the foundation was seriously traumatized. Consider the SECOND airplane, and the foundation of the entire area went through the same trauma. There's just no way the foundations of the buildings in the area could withstand the shock.
The US used to have armed guards on airplanes in the 70's. We just have too many planes to do this now... I say, STOP FLYING ALL OVER THE PLACE EVERY SECOND. Sure, every once in a while take a vacation, but for business start using the FRICKEN PHONE and the INTERNET. Let's SIMPLFIY so that it's easier to SECURE.

One ring to rule them all, One ring to find them.
One ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.

You're correct. Please post as a real person though so that the rest of us can enjoy your posts.

But they also submitted the CLR - doesn't that contain many of the essential libraries?

Attributes, although useful for COM interopability, are an elegant way to describe MetaData, and are definatly not "out of control".

Could someone _please_ explain to me how this got modded as a Troll???
My sig says it all.

You don't "suffer" from advertisers. Rather, you benefit from the services they finance like "/.".
Could you please cache the stories in NESTED mode
I second this statement.

I'm being redundant to make an important point
