And are loud. We have a cat that we think is part bengal and he yowls whenever he's not sure where we are. You can hear him through two closed doors across the house.
It isn't as bad as it sounds (for a desktop system) If the UI dies, the typical user is screwed anyway, whether it's user space or kernel space. For a server, it's moronic.
How much do they need to push? The "Designed for Windows XP" logo requires apps to run under normal user privileges. How much more can they realistically do?
It's barely playable. I don't know what they were smoking when they released it without a backlight. There's one spot in my house where I can comfortably use the GBA.
Why wasn't it practical to have a backlight? Aftermarket added one with no problems (Afterburner)
PC: Double check the system requirements, update hardware if needed (possibly many $$$$), hope like hell it doesn't install something that causes BSODs or erases USB drives as some protection has been known to do.
Again, so why turn off *READING* as well? Just deny access to the writing WebDAV methods, other than delete. Turning off sending via WebDAV is buyable as an anti-spam technique. Turning off the reading as well is a money grab.
So it's easier to do that (especially for the novice user) than reboot?
Much of the recent copy protection requires you to shut down any virtual drive software and burning software and their dependent services, so it is common.
Too many consoles?
Get the three major (non-portable) and you're at $400. How much is a good gaming capable computer, plus monitor (most people already have a TV)?
And no need to spend any time administering them either.
It's actually been that way for a while.
Console market is triple or quadruple the PC market.
since the XBox 2 will use the PowerPC G5, it shouldn't be that difficult to port future XBox games to the Power Mac G5 and the iMac
Just like it's a piece of cake porting Windows games to Linux on the x86?
What hardware besides Keyboard and Mice has MS not made a loss on?
XBox is losing money, they stopped producing their wireless gear.
But they aren't using it generically in this case. They are referring to the specific item that the trademark refers to.

OMG a one-time online activation. How does this hurt you? Can't connect properly?
My personal Windows box does not, nor will it ever get, internet access. Patches are downloaded from another box and placed on network shares.
Blizzard *still* has a rush to market mentality.
I pre-ordered Diablo II mail order.
I had the first patch in hand before I had the game.
That was the magnesium struts that caused most of that explosion.
Hydrogen is safer than gasoline
Executed by another process? What are you talking about? Processes in windows cannot mess with each other address space.
m oteThread
They can intentionally, just not accidentially.

(NX bit works only at AMD64 processors and above last time I checked)
Celeron D is now shipping with NX enabled. I don't know whether XP will take advantage of it.

No, it doesn't.
It has a device driver that has UI stuff that allows the UI to run in kernel mode. It's not part of the kernel.
But does the iPod come with any music?
You still want ZA too. A Linksys or Netgear doesn't block outgoing.
Perfect? Hell no. Another layer to help? Yes.

The SP is not twice as much
GBA - $49.99
SP - $79.99
Let see...
Console: Take the disk, pop it in, play
PC: Double check the system requirements, update hardware if needed (possibly many $$$$), hope like hell it doesn't install something that causes BSODs or erases USB drives as some protection has been known to do.
Right, piracy is the main reason for the decline.
So, try each on that 300 MHz 128 MB and see what is best.
Most software I've seen on Windows severely underestimates "recommended", and I'm assuming Windows itself does the same.
Again, so why turn off *READING* as well? Just deny access to the writing WebDAV methods, other than delete. Turning off sending via WebDAV is buyable as an anti-spam technique. Turning off the reading as well is a money grab.
I read the ZDNet one the other day, and this one is substantially similar.
So, how does eliminating WebDAV, rather than just restricting it to read/delete stop spam?
No, because GMail never had that feature.
So, how does limiting reading of e-mail cut spam?
How does receiving by WebDAV help spammers that much?
So much for hotwayd, the only reason I kept my hotmail account.
Not reboot, restart the services when done.
So it's easier to do that (especially for the novice user) than reboot?
Much of the recent copy protection requires you to shut down any virtual drive software and burning software and their dependent services, so it is common.
So, for Windows users, using a copy protected game that requires you to shut off loads of crap and then restart it when you're done is more efficient?
