    Too many consoles?

    Get the three major (non-portable) and you're at $400. How much is a good gaming capable computer, plus monitor (most people already have a TV)?

    And no need to spend any time administering them either.

    since the XBox 2 will use the PowerPC G5, it shouldn't be that difficult to port future XBox games to the Power Mac G5 and the iMac

    Just like it's a piece of cake porting Windows games to Linux on the x86?

    OMG a one-time online activation. How does this hurt you? Can't connect properly?

    My personal Windows box does not, nor will it ever get, internet access. Patches are downloaded from another box and placed on network shares.

    Executed by another process? What are you talking about? Processes in windows cannot mess with each other address space.

    They can intentionally, just not accidentially.

    Celeron D is now shipping with NX enabled. I don't know whether XP will take advantage of it.

    It isn't as bad as it sounds (for a desktop system) If the UI dies, the typical user is screwed anyway, whether it's user space or kernel space. For a server, it's moronic.

    No, it doesn't.

    It has a device driver that has UI stuff that allows the UI to run in kernel mode. It's not part of the kernel.

    How much do they need to push? The "Designed for Windows XP" logo requires apps to run under normal user privileges. How much more can they realistically do?

    It's barely playable. I don't know what they were smoking when they released it without a backlight. There's one spot in my house where I can comfortably use the GBA.

    Why wasn't it practical to have a backlight? Aftermarket added one with no problems (Afterburner)

    The SP is not twice as much

    Console: Take the disk, pop it in, play

    PC: Double check the system requirements, update hardware if needed (possibly many $$$$), hope like hell it doesn't install something that causes BSODs or erases USB drives as some protection has been known to do.

    Right, piracy is the main reason for the decline.

    So, try each on that 300 MHz 128 MB and see what is best.

    Most software I've seen on Windows severely underestimates "recommended", and I'm assuming Windows itself does the same.

    Again, so why turn off *READING* as well? Just deny access to the writing WebDAV methods, other than delete. Turning off sending via WebDAV is buyable as an anti-spam technique. Turning off the reading as well is a money grab.

    So, how does eliminating WebDAV, rather than just restricting it to read/delete stop spam?

    Not reboot, restart the services when done.

    So it's easier to do that (especially for the novice user) than reboot?

    Much of the recent copy protection requires you to shut down any virtual drive software and burning software and their dependent services, so it is common.

    So, for Windows users, using a copy protected game that requires you to shut off loads of crap and then restart it when you're done is more efficient?
