  1. Re:What about "Odyssey 5"? TWO Seasons? on Top 50 Science Fiction TV Shows · · Score: 1

Hmmm... Well, maybe it is actually one season that was spread out over two years, then. You may be right. imdb shows it as being on from 2002-2004, so that may have thrown me. I also simply remember Showtime airing new shows about a year after the first batch, so I may have been confused and thought it was a second season.

Another interesting thing about this show that I noticed... it has two entries on imdb. Weirdness!

Anyway, it's nice to see that I wasn't the only person on the planet that watched and enjoyed this show. :)

  2. What about "Odyssey 5"? on Top 50 Science Fiction TV Shows · · Score: 1

I'm guessing the only reason Odyssey 5 (from Showtime) was left off of the list because most nobody ever heard of it! I noticed that nobody mentioned it yet on this board. Maybe I am the only one that enjoyed it?

Anyway, for those of you who don't know what I am talking about... it was a series starring Peter Weller that ran for two seasons on Showtime a couple of years ago. Here is the plot summary that I snatched from imdb:

"The astronaut crew of a space shuttle looks on in horror as they witness the violent destruction of the Earth. However, they are given a chance to change humanity's fate when a sympathetic alien sends them five years into the past. Their mission--find out who's responsible for the plot to destroy the planet. Can they deal with their own pasts while saving the world from the mysterious organism known only as 'Leviathan?'"

The show was fantastic and was easily boosted by the fact that it was on pay-cable television; it added to the gritty quality of the dialog and the more mature subject matter that could only make it on cable. ;) So... am I truly alone in remembering and admiring this short-lived sci-fi show? I really hope this show makes it to DVD someday; I just wish it lasted longer. :(

  3. Howard not being singled out? on FCC's Powell vs. Howard Stern on KGO-AM · · Score: 5, Insightful

I find it amusing that they deny that Howard has been singled out by the FCC... meanwhile, he received over 50% of the fines that the FCC slapped on broadcasters over the past five years.

Now you tell me if that isn't showing that they are trying to use him as an example! ;-)

  4. This reminds me of Turner colorizing movies on Star Wars DVD Box Set Released · · Score: 1

This totally smacks of Ted Turner taking old black and white movies and using computer technology to colorize those movies. They look dreadful. Is this somehow and improvement?

I agree that we should be outraged because of the changing of classics... Star Wars might even be a more intense case because of the HUGE changes that have been made. It makes you forget how revolutionary the FX were for their time and how they were done and how they looked. None of this applies if they aren't around in their original state anymore. It's a real shame. Lucas is like Turner squared or even cubed.

Also... just imagine the poor guy who was in the original trilogy that was digitally edited out so that someone else can be pasted in their place. It sure wouldn't feel good to me to see my name vanish from the credits. "I swear... I was in this movie!! I swear it!"

They have been known to do that, ya know. ;) Smart baclk hats will never be caught...it is soooo easy to avoid being caught, but it seems that so many are careless or dumb. (I guess thankfully....so they get caught easier!)

Anyway, if it is him...I'm sure they will find out. I just prefer to wait and see.

Wow! I had one of those too. It was awesome! There was another cartridge "snapshot" type product also called the "final cartridge" (I think) I never had it, but it was supposedly better. I had a copy of Elite (Best game I ever played to this day) that was copied from that and it was phenominal; it only took 30 seconds to load the game on my old 1541 disk drive. It also made load times WAY faster. It was great!

Sigh....I kinda miss those days too. Games were lame as heck most of the time, but there were also a bunch of very original games. Even the crappy ones were at least usually original in concept.

Anyway, I just recenty got a copy of Elite 2 for the PC from a guy in England....YAY!! It is sooooooooo fun. It's ancient, as far as PC games go...but it is easily my fave at the moment. ^_^ It brings back such fond memories too....I just wish it didn't have that lame MIDI music....lol

OK...I feel like I'm wandering off-topic...but it was fun to remember those days. :)

I have read 1984 a couple times and I also thought it was quite interesting and made several points. I still think the book could have been 100 pages shorter; I think the idea was a good one, but I think it was written so that it was more dull than it could have been. I thought a better book on dystopian society was Brave New World by Aldous Huxley...but that is starting to get off topic. :)

Time Warner is vastly powerful and it is interesting that AOL/Time Warner has not been scrutinized all that much. They are easily up there with Microsoft now. Now that they are mega-media, it will be interesting to see what they do. I sure hope we all won't be speaking newspeak soon. :) Hehe

I am in no way slamming guys for overclocking....if anything, they are being innovative and inventive and might be the next ones with an awesome breakthrough or something. Edison would try hundreds of different ways to do something until he found a way that worked best.

Is this something to do with male competitiveness? Wanting the best and fastest? Is this like having the most powerful and fastest car?

I personally have zero want to make a copper-top processor. I like a fast computer, but I like to have a stable machine moreso. Overclocking is always a bundle of problems in the machines I have seen.

So, am I alone out there? I ask other females out there to tell if they overclock. I imagine they are out there, but I bet there aren't many.

Intergalactic travel would be easily possible if we had such power to create wormholes. Babylon 5 often displayed craft that could generate temporary jump points (wormholes)...this is a neat idea. But as far as I understand, doesn't the science say that wormholes would have a passage size of about 6 ft. diameter? I remember Stephen Hawking talking about this and he was explaining how acording to current theory, no crafts could pass through a wormhole because of the size. Not to mention the fact that you might be splattered to mush. ;)
I guess if there was a way to generate huge ones, then we could do it..... Only time and discovery will tell. :)

I profess no strong knowledge on this subject...I just have dabbled in it when I see something regarding it. I find it intriguing. :) I'm a girl that likes science. GASP! ^_~

The joke about the furvor over using the term "chick" is that I even use that term sometimes. :) LOL Call me wacky, I guess. Lighten up people...power is taken out of "offensive" terms by making light of them. Just don't let it get to you and it has no power.

Yes, I like to chat, I also like science, and gaming, and tech stuff. Why do we have to label people? If you labeled me, I guess I would be a geekette. LOL ^_^
