No it doesn't.
Actually it's not at all a question of true computer or not since the guys designing the piece of legislation couldn't tell the difference between a computer and a microwave hoven, it's more about who enforces all the "anti-piracy" policies and technologies ( such as DRM rofl...) and who doesn't.
Microsoft Does so they get a free pass, the others don't so they have to pay.
This is an OUTRAGEOUS example of how french poilitics is becoming more and more like American politics, big company lobbies to have a stupid and unfair law, other big companies sue, big company conter-sues etc...
Meanwhile the consumers get fucked in the ass, and the citizen pay for all the legal crap...
Well I wouldn't say irrelevant.
The medical science has advanced but certainly not to the point where genetic diseases are irrelevant. They are actually the hardest to fight along with AIDS and cancer.
Anyway of course it's more important to be prepared to raise kids than to have them at the optimum biological age but your comment about a 49 grand mother being irresponsibly too young is stupid.
TONS of people, actually the huge majority of people, have a job by the age of 24, they are not in college anymore (since most people don't even go to college...) and they can provide for their hypothetical child.
Your comment that supposedly attacks the 49 y o grandma on her self-centeredness only points out your own.
You think because you were still a student @ 24 everyone was but that's only true for a very small fraction of people in the US and an even smaller in the world.
The guy your responding too was clearly refering to the biological capabilities and not whether you were fit to be a good parent.
He was saying the social pressure (whether you're fit to be a good parent, whether you have enough money or not ? etc..) had so much influence it was making people have kids older than they would and that it wasn't necessarily a good thing biologically speaking.
Genetic diseases grow more frequent after 25 years old (age of the mother). The age of the father seems to have little importance (which kind of make sense since the spermatozoid is a few days old anyway.
If the balance shifts, it means that the Book industry isn't doing anything worth paying for anymore (that's called free market)
So they die, someone takes their place as the intermediary between readers and writers and life goes on.
What's the problem ? they are blood-sucking censors who never let the real geniuses get published anyway...
what ? it's so sad to watch them die ? well they could also try to change but let's not be obscene...
I see your point and yet I fail to see how a tremendous scientific and technological progress like the ability to share knowledge and culture for almost no cost and no effort has a downside.
The only thing that is for sure is that we must invent a new way to make money of books and to pay the writers.
It's the same old "problem" we had with music.
I fail to see how this lending thing is going to solve it.
Yes it is. It's right next to gaining total brain control of every human being and making people believe evryone has the same needs so you can sell 1 products to zillions of people who don't need it.
I think he should sell it right now, because the chances to make more than 50 billions out of facebook are non-existent.
Too much controversy, too much privacy concern, in a few years it's just not going to be that hype anymore...
Plus serious alternatives exist and facebook has little growth potential with 500 million users almost all of which live in the USA and Europe (that pretty much everyone down there)
In brasil, china, India they use other social networks so it's already over for facebook down there.
IMO 50 B is a very good price. But I really hope Apple doesn't buy Facebook because that would probably make it hype again, since evryone seems to be in love with Apple for some reason I really can't grasp, and Fapple looks like the Antichrist of the Social Web to me.
What difference does it make to you if someone cheats in solo ? does it ruin your gaming experience and make you waste some time ? NO.
What do you care ? like you've never used a single cheat code in your entire life ?
Let's take Starcraft 1 as a comparative example.
In SC1 you actually owned the game after purchasing it, which meant that you could cheat in solo, not alter anyone experience, still brag about finishing the campaign in the hardest mod and whatever (although it wouldn't have impressed a lot of people) and everyone was fine with this.
What's the difference here ?
I mean what if I wanna play online but I also wanna see the videos and the story behind the campaign, I just don't have the time to play it so I cheat.
what is wrong with this ?
Yet this is ridiculous.
I don't give a rat's ass if someone has all the achievements in the world and cheated to get them... I don't spend my time on SC2 wanking on my achievements...
When I want to confront my skills I'll just play multi (and there I sure hope there won't be cheating of course !) but in solo I JUST DON'T GIVE A F*CK !
Blizzard you used to be a white knight but then.... what happenned to you guys ?
You've became such a-holes I'm really regretting ever buying SC2 even though it's really a great game.
Actually it's more than a great game, it's exactly what it should have been which really is a amazing achievement considering the insane expectations everyone had, so why, why OH WHY did you have to ruin it with the LAMEST gaming system I've EVER seen.
When I start SC2 I feel like I'm trapped, like I was robbed because I pay 60 euros and I don't own anything. I feel like I was scammed because I behave responsibly and you treat me like a child not a customer. I though "the customer is king" was a sacred rules in american businesses but I guess everything has an end.
To Whoever decided it was a good idea to lock people into the gaming system as it is, to force people to log in before playing solo mode, or to ban people cheating in solo mode : FUCK YOU. FUCK YOU VERY VERY MUCH.
Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin.
Stop watching Fox and listening to Palin to know who your founding fathers were and what they believe.
If every American had read what Jefferson had to say about religion I can tell you your country would be much better off by now.
Why is everyone so passionate about the USA all over the world ?
You all think it is because you have power.. ah...
Power is boring... what baffles people is how can one nation that was founded by protestant fleeing the persecutions and war of religion, that was built around the idea of freedom of religion has became filled with bigots and extremists.
Or more likely how did extremists and bigot acquired so much power in a country that was founded by agnostics !
Are you totally disconnected from reality or do you have no economical background whatsoever ?
AIG goes out of business = all major companies in the world go uninsured = massive chaos = biggest economical clusterfuck ever.
You see that's my whole point : some companies ARE too big to fail, because the network of codependency they have built over several decades makes them essential to the proper functioning of the economy.
Say that AT&T went out of business, that would be a problem, because the carrier market is highly competitive and there are tens of competitors inside the USA. In a few months the problem would be solved.
Now compare this to AIG going out of business and you have a totally different picture.
Nobody in the world could have possibly filled the Gap AIG was going to leave, before years !
Ultimately we have 2 options :
-One is to believe in the free unregulated market, and to act in order to ensure it is in a proper state, which means it guarantees pure and fair competition (which are the 2 pillars of economical liberalism). This means we need to prevent companies from getting this big, we need to fight against monopolies and ultimately we say DIE to all the big companies and split them in several small actors who can match the needs of neoliberalism.
-The second on is to say : OK we have huge multinational companies and this may be cool after all, but they are too powerful to be let alone doing their stuff, we have to watch them, as the citizen watch their government, because with great power comes GREATER POWER and this is dangerous.
For the same reason people should watch what their government does with their tax-payer money, they should ask their government to watch what companies do with the huge near-unlimited power they have.
Because the Republic is founded on the principle of the separation of powers in 3 branches judiciary, legislative and executive, and these powers are exercised in the name of the people and those who are imbued with them are imbued by the people and their powers can be repelled.
A 4th power, namely the economical power of companies that are as powerful as some states are, is altering our democracy and changing the rules and that is not OK.
BTW I'm a 22 years old French student and no I don't give a crap about AIG or GM which both are stupid companies who didn't see what pile of shit they were getting into and yes people which are at their head didn't deserved what they were paid, but letting both companies die would have lead to several million people unemployed and I'm talking about direct consequences, I'm not even including the effect it would have had on the economical growth, the confidence, the unstability on the financial markets etc...
No liberty is the exercice of your free will in the limits set by the free will of all the others.
Or as defined by the declaration of human rights : the liberty of each person stops where the liberty of the others start.
One can easily see it's an abstract concept, an ideal towards which a nation must try to go but which cannot be truly reached ever.
One sees also how complex it must be to comprehend it fully and to construct a legal landscape into which Liberty can exist at its full potential.
Your cost comparison (you do realize btw that 5$ in 1970 is much more than 5$ right now do you ?) is stupid.
When trying to determine the impact of a public health policy one has to focus on the global cost & the global objectives that were reached.
Today Americans spend more money on health then any European country and yet they have the highest proportion of people with zero health care access, and on average the American population is in poor health in comparison with Europe. This is because 20 years of unregulated, profit oriented health care system made the prices rocket to the sky.
To conclude and maybe make you thinks a little for a change :
Imagine your so called perfect world in which the evil government does what you say and nothing more.
What would be left of the USA right now ? GM, Chrysler and Ford would be closed; half of the banks who didn't die during the last crisis would have died, including some biggies.
Worst !! AIG (which insures more than 480 out of the 500 biggest companies in the world) would be closed to.
did I say anything about the American agriculture which is subsided (as is european agriculture) so heavily since the 1980s that it would literally have disappeared without it?
Your small limited central government would work in the early 1800s but things have changed.
The competition between nations is not longer military, it's mostly politics diplomacy and economics and if the government has no impact on the economy then it becomes weaker, sometimes even weaker than the biggest economic player inside its own territories, like if Apple was bigger than the federal government.
The use of physical violence being in decline as a way to govern in our democratic countries, replaced by economic and political violence, one can see here put in question the monopoly of the legitimate use of strength which is the base of the power of a state and a government.
In a world where private companies becomes multinational and so powerful one can hardly see what calls for weaker central government that will become totally useless if they are outmatched by private corporations.
In the separation of the powers (which is the basis of the republic : legislative, executive and judicial) there was no mention of economical power as far as I remember and it wasn't a mistake, it's because economical power has no moral/legal ground, and therefore it shall not compete with the expression of the will of the people which is materialized through the entities of the republic a.k.a the government and such.
I'm always sceptical when I see someone mentioning liberty whose purpose it to suppress central government.
I mean weak central government has been tried for about 1 millennium in Europe. IT DOESN'T work.
More seriously, government spending and taxing is just one way to democratically decided own one country should redistribute wealth and on what moral/economical basis.
When the government spends 1 trillion dollars in 2 useless wars, and most of that money goes to very wealthy private contractors and military equipment manufacturers, one can have difficulties finding what good it makes.
When this money is spent in education and health I really don't see what bad it can make...
It is a well proven fact that healthy and educated country do better in economy then less healthy and less educated population.
Doing that would work (assuming we were 100% correct on the liberal and free market theories) IF AND ONLY IF capital was shared among more people.
Right now what you are trying to create is an all inclusive free market with no interference, full of unequal people, which means actors are not at all equivalent or atomic, composed of markets that are mostly dominated by vast monopolies and anytime they are not we KNOW for a fact that companies will try to fuck competition over with secret (and illegal) deals.
Face it : no regulation doesn't work, because in the face of no regulation, anytime a company gets big enough they abuse their position to FUCK the competition and therefore the market.
Liberty (even economic liberty) is not something so simple it can be reduced to : no regulation.
Liberty is about guaranteeing the same amount of rights to the weak and the strong because the strongest isn't always the best (as in the most righteous and the most beneficiary for everyone)
The perfect theoretical state in which economy can sustain itself only through the laws of the market doesn't exist, it is as utopian as communism.
No he is Pro HTML 5 + open video codec (being ogg theora or VP8 or another one).
He is against the stupid and dishonest argument from steve Jobs that we all should support HIS solution (HTML5 + h.264) because Flash and Silverlight are proprietary because if you change the framework but keep the closed video codec then you've achieved nothing except making Apple stronger.
Apple's solution is not worse than Flash or Silverlight, it's actually probably better, it's just that it is a dishonest and inconsistent strategy.
When Apple relies on an open source video Codec instead of h.264 I'll agree with you.
Meanwhile they just try to block real open solution from replacing Microsoft and Adobe...
Apple is part of MPEG-LA who owns h.264 and I have great difficulties in believing their intention are so good...
ACTA is pushed by American (and Japanese) Lobbies and corporations so once again don't make it sound like it's international pressure.
ACTA is just the result of the common interest of private corporations to gather so they can overcome the power of government (things they wouldn't do by themselves) and screw costumers even more.
Could you please make a list of the "international organisation" that oppress you and limit your freedom ?
I mean there is no international organisation that the USA belongs to where the USA isn't the strongest and most influential member ( mainly because they invest the more money)
WTO, WHO, World Bank, IMF etc,etc...
I'm sorry but I think the "ennemy" is from within...
Big corporations and lobby that are more powerful than governments themselves.
Don't forget that international agreements have to be translated into American laws (and passed) by the Congress before having any kind meaning on the American soil.
Secondly don't forget your freedom stops where the one of others begins and what international institution are trying to do is mitigate the unbalanced powers of the different nations to guarantee liberty to all (not only American).
Saying that respecting the freedom of others (and not just crushing them) limits your freedom as an American is really showing little understanding of the meaning of Freedom.
Yet he is right.
Your basic argument if I may was:
Furthermore, this is false. Across the board you make more (in inflation sdjusted dollars) than you did in 1967 in every quartile. So your standard of living has not gone down.
WoW ! so a very poor 2010 american earns more than a poor 1967 american ? in inflation adjusted dollars... lol
Good thing in 50 years technological progress was so amazing then right ?
You do realize you are amazed that there was ANY progress at all in 50 years ?
You do understand this do you ?
You do realize it would have been fucking sad it wasn't the case ?
Oddly enough rich powerful white males tend to think little government and self-government would be great, while the others tend to think they would end up eaten alive by the aforementioned gentlemen (even faster than with strong government)
Your way is the easy way, you think that small government will prevent people from doing stupid things collectively, but you forget (on purpose) it won't stop them from doing very stupid things individually.
Hence : problem not solved.
Yet it kinda affects my perception of his education and culture and makes me believe he is fucking stupid and therefore poorly qualified to choose the path of my nation along my side in a election where may I remind you all the votes count for one. (except in florida where sometimes they count for nothing..)
What I mean is : thinking the little mermaid was written by Shakespeare, or even thinking it's a play, is sad, but as much as I love litterature and as much as I value it I think this kind of ignorance doesn't have the same impact as for example thinking the earth is the center of the universe.
These stupid éideas" are not to be though as as diseases but as symptomes of much more profound diseases, and for instance thinking the Earth is the center of the universe is, imho, a symptome of blattent religious extremism that drove to shameless and even proud ignorance (or a incredible ability to disregard eveidence and denie the truth).
And that's very scary and dangerous, much more a my mechanics confusing Daniel and Germain Defoe.
This is the dumbest fucking idea I have ever heard....
You do realize 10000 is actually much less informative than 1.9.12.2152 do you ?
Let's see about that :
A. 10000 : it gives us one, and only one piece of info, this is the 10,000th version of the software. That's all. It could be 10 major versions over 10 years or 1 major version corrected 9999 times in a month.
You have NO idea what happened to this software !
And that's from a professional point of view.
But let's go a little further : what's the difference between v10,000 and v10,001 ? You don't have a fucking idea. It could be a typo or it could be a major release with tons of new features and the (yet) unfixed bugs that come with this.
SO even from a consumers point of view it sucks, it's not easier or smarter and it certainly isn't more informative.
From my understanding the usual consumer doesn't need to know 1.9.12.2152, but he definitely will understand the difference between 1.9.12.2152 and say 2.X.XX.XXXX
Anyway I'm tired and your argument sucked so bad that I'm not going to invest anymore time counter arguing.

Your basic argument if I may was
Furthermore, this is false.
Or smarter people...
Yeah because the march of Martin Luther King really proved itself useless...
Like the protests of Gandhi...
You're dismissing people actually taking part into something because you are passive. Maybe it makes you feel better but it's still retarded.
No he hasn't.
OR he has a very keen and subtle sens of sarcasm.
