Same should apply to welfare too. There's a debate in my state arguing against random drug testing for those receiving welfare checks. As far as I'm concerned, you have the right to privacy; when you apply for a job that is related to anything secretive (corporate secrets or government secrets) you relinquish your right to privacy to a necessary extent. If you want a want to privacy? Good. You want your privacy to remain unviolated AND get handouts or a job that requires secrecy and loyalty? No.

I can type faster than I can write, I can search for things related to our discussion, I can look up my professor's power points, etc. It's so stupid that I'm limited because they don't want us to "waste our time." The students that want to waste their time shouldn't be bothered. If they fail, that's their fault. Don't handicap me because some jackass can't pay attention. College is reminding me more and more of public school with this crap.

Trading anything that can be helpful in making IEDs and WMDs to our enemies (the government of Iran for example) is foolish. Admittedly, they can get parts with other methods-- but that doesn't mean we can't make things more difficult for them or slow them down. Having a software embargo, on the other hand, is fucking ridiculous. What will that accomplish? Absolutely nothing. Politicians needs to study this series of intricate tubes before writings laws regulating them.

So the government can't do this, but private corporations can. Then, those private corporations turn around and give said information to the government without probable cause (just a sticky note).

  21. One problem on Improving Education Through Better Teachers · · Score: 1
One problem with America's education system is that teachers are forced to teach to the lowest people in the class. What we should be doing is segregating students who genuinely need more assistance (I could have used extra math help during HS). During nearly all of my classes, I would screw off or work on unrelated projects. Why? Because I finished the work of a week in a day. While my English class spent nearly two weeks reading Romeo and Juliet, I finished it in three days. My teacher just let me sit there and listen to music. Sure, at times I was productive with my free time. But the fact is, the smartest kids aren't being challenged, which causes disruptions and unnecessarily halts their educational growth. Also, the average kid is being challenged.

This will probably never happen because parents would be outraged if their children weren't "the brightest." Admittedly, this is just one problem. But that's how you solve larger problems-- you tackle the smaller problems and eventually you can begin making serious progress.
