    is a great example, there were more people using thw web to help keep him in power than the other way around. Heck his ministers went on al-jazeera TV after the war saying the reason he held out was that he was hoping the anti-war groups would be effective in stopping the US.

    there are no good free groupware clients that work as well cross platform like Exchange. Consider that fact that there are exchange clients on OSX, Linux and Windows. Look at the OSS rivals :kolab costs money to work with windows and the other one Opengroupware is just such a pain to install..

    Think again, it is the entire source code. its all there. click on the link and take a look. It builds on BSD, OSX, Linux etc. Quite nice really.

    well that means that we will just have to stick with the free and open source alternative; C#. Yeah, if you dont know already, MS's C# source is available here on their website. It says a lot when you can download the tar ball for the MS program and just type make on your favorite OS and not for the competetior..
    Though, i dont really know what benefit would come out of open sourcing Java..

    if you are pirating the music, that doesnt really make you a demographic that they care about. It is not like they are alienating a customer because that person was never a customer. Heck the fact that they were distributing the music for free makes them a rival.

    how long before someone sets up fake domains on one of these fake DNS servers then spreads a trojan (say a kegen program ) that sets this as the first DNS server in Windows networking. Initially they can have it point to the IP of the ligitimate microsoft so no one realizes then maybe one day switch the CNN, MSNBC, Foxnews etc page to "Aliens land on Mall", then have any other domain fail to connect :-p

    who cares? not like anyone uses the other root servers. I know a small handful of hardcore peopel might but the vast and i mean vast majority of people dont even know about it. Heck, this is the first time i have veard of these people. If i make my own server and have . there does that mean i can stop ICANN too?

    not clear what exactly they want to do. Is this going to be another RH bluecurve stly deal, or is this more of a gtk->qt bindings or somthing like that (or vice versa). I mean the big problem with kde vs gnome is not so much the fact that they behave different( though it is part of the problem) it it more that the libraries that are loaded usually do the same things. Why would you have a kde window box with konqueror and galeon running at the same time? similarly, why run an app that uses khtml and gecko or gtkhtml at the same time? it is great to have such redundancy when you need to pick software, but there is no need to have both running at the same time.

Now, given the number of people who come to /. and the duration of the downloads, it would be interesting to see if the torrent really does die.     ok i first look at the link swedx.se and think someone has pulled a fast one on the editors. I click on it (yeah i know, bad practice when you suspect a bad link) and i see these mice that just look dirty. I dont know if it is just me, but those mice, with the two buttons and the black scroll wheel nested in the middle, looks like a certain part of the anatomy.

    well plently of people have suffered under communism and continue to this day. Has nothing to do with open source, just mozilla. Heck, i write open source apps (hosted on sf.net no less) however, go ask a jew to use software where the logo is a Nazi stlye swastika and i think you will understand how the logo is deivisive. The swastika may be a harmless symbol of eastern religion but in context (nazi stly swastika) it means something else. Red star witha yellow border and workers around it looks like something else (as compared to the texaco red star). Do you see my point?
