    Maybe those academics who feel strongly about this issue are going to referee with the explicit purpose of rejecting all the papers assigned to them?

    A bit dishonest I know, but a rejection with the comment "not appropriate for this journal, try x or y" isn't too damaging to science...

    Being married/having girlfriends does not imply getting laid. They can quite often be mutually exclusive sets. Some men are driven to drink, use drugs, post on slashdot in such situations. Others may be driven to commit homicide.

    Secretly attempting to addict people to your product is one of the most insidious attacks on freedom that there is.

    Well I know cigarette companies have been threatening to sue the Australian government because the government wants to force cigarettes to be sold in plain paper packaged boxes. It's actually been pretty interesting to follow.

    I could probably make a witty comment about the similarities between music labels and cigarette corporations, but everyone knows that they are both scum, so I won't bother.

    Latest research shows that Alpine plants such as Edelweiss have been dying off due to the warmer summers we have been experiencing - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2083967/Edelweiss-plants-A-risk-extinct-summers-gets-warmer.html and because they now have less area to grow in, are at risk of extinction.

    Even Hitler didn't commit genocide on Edelweiss when he invaded Austria. Therefore - climate change deniers, by being responsible for killing off the delicate and beautiful Edelweiss flower, are worse than Hitler.

    So according to your logic, each country in the world should be allocated the exact same resources, without taking into regard the size of their population?

    I might be showing my age a little here, but I do recall that there was a bright shining moment back around 87/88 before the acronym was noticed where that was indeed their name. They quickly renamed to Curtin University of Technology. They have now renamed themselves to be merely Curtin University.

    It makes me sad that your current state of mind is such that you can't ever imagine living in a house with family & kids. Even with a small family of 4, that is only 30mins per person per day, - or 3.5 hours per person per week (a movie & change)

    The original iphones couldn't multitask - even though every other crappy windows mobile touchscreen smartphone of the time could.

    I remember at the time Apple was criticised for bringing multitasking into iphones so late in the game.

    Now they've added multitasking in, years after everyone else, and they're claiming the patent????

    I'll probably get modded down for saying this - but over the years, I've worked as a developer/tech arch in Palo Alto, Mountain View, Milwaukee and Portsmouth, and my experience is that the vast majority of US programmers also suck.

    The main problem I've had with Indian programmers is that a lot of them don't really understand english (even though it is the official language of India) - which makes explaining requirements more difficult, but at least they can do math properly.

    Not all overseas developers suck, and not all US developers are awesome. I can see why management would be willing to take the lower cost option, when they aren't guaranteed (or qualified) to identify and hire good talent locally.

    Actually 7 if you are going from someone not on facebook, via the facebook network, to a second person also not on facebook.

    So assuming the traditional value of 6 in meatspace is correct, then the facebook network is actually less connected than the real world.
