The truth is, terrorists can always damage infrastructure and they don't have to completely destroy anything to be crippling. Imagine what would happen if they did something to force the closure or slowdown of the subway system in every every big city that had 1 or twice a week. With the current economic woes they could find relatively cheap and easy ways to bankrupt America faster than all the administrations since Nixon.
Which is greater? The infinite points that define the infinitely large circle, the infinite points inside said circle or the infinite points outside it? Please provide proof.
Judging by the most recent mod on this comment; I see I've offended a Sarah Palin admirer. Hey, if you want to go ROUGE with her, be my guest. But she's still a twit; but, thanks to Palin, I now have a lot more respect for Jamie Foss, "winner" of Superstar USA.
Let's see : Palladium, phosphorus, germanium, silicon and silver? If they need to have all these in the pure state this will be quite costly.
Ingredient Dollars / oz
Palladium - 800
Germanium - 85
Silver - 25
Phosphorus - 700
Silicon 100
The video of the helicopter shooting in Iraq that included a journalist being killed showed the unarmed civilians who tried to move him into their van being cut to bits. There was absolutely no threatening action and these people were clearly civilians - I cannot find any reports of the soldiers being charged for a clearly murderous action.
His point about the Chinese political system is accurate, and was probably made out of frustration. When you have a polarized political system, you can be hamstrung for a long time. But a system that can govern by edict can be significantly faster at making change - that doesn't mean it's positive, just more effective at reaching a goal.
Both systems have their merits and flaws and sometimes you have to do things one way; sometimes the other. I don't know too many who run their families like a democracy, but more like a benevolent dictatorship
Unfortunately, in light of recent announcements of large discoveries of oil and gas by China and Brazil, I think you'll have a hard time convincing the skeptics, more's the pity
Ground compression from all the giant beasties that keep rampaging through. Or maybe there's a tunneling monster that's going to attack from underneath and swallow them whole.
Don't most Americans believe the Universe is only 6000 years old? And that we can't possibly affect climate because God won't allow it. What is this "millions of years" claptrap?
Unless they're really, really stupid, they'll see this coming and will still have a lot of the oil money that the world have gifted them with for decades. Since they'll still have plenty of oil, they can use it themselves - petroleum is good for lots of things other than burning. Also, they can find other things to do - they weren't always oil sheiks; maybe sell some of those gold-plated urinals and limos made from sterling silver, if things get tight. Apart from that, well, I find myself not giving a damn
Will there be artificial gravity on a real trip? I would hope so as the loss of bone mass would be horrendous. Never mind osteoporosis, these erstwhile astronauts would be amoebas in spacesuits by the time they got to the Red Planet.
I fully expect a penta-what-fucking-ever screw remover to appear on eBay sometime soon for less money that it'll cost to ship. Not that I really care as I don't buy fucking Apple but other manufacturers do seem to get ideas from Jobs&Co.
The only good part of the show is the John Noble. Everyone else could be replaced by a featureless robot and I probably wouldn't notice. Anna Torv seems to think that emotion is confined to imagining a bad smell directly under one's nose. Joshua Jackson is a complete waste as the tough-guy genius who only purpose seems to be acting as a translator from crazy scientist English to, well, English.
It would have made a half-decent mini-series but it's been going on too damn long. Let it die or kill it quick.

You've never worked a helpdesk, have you?
damn, i ran out of mod points yesterday. +3 Insightful to you, +5 Funny
I normally don't give mod points to ACs but if I had any, you'd get one
If it's infinite, how do you know it's not really a cube or some other shape, say an icosahedron?

So at the end of the Universe lies Trantor?

Playing by your rules means there's no way to win - because NOT believing it would make me Sarah Palin - and she's a complete idiot

If sea levels rise, the global glass may be much more than "half-full"

Indeed. I'm as blind as a bat and have four sets of those teeny ones that I can find and maybe five more that I've misplaced.
Astro the lesbo? She's cute but we're not her type unless you happen to be that nearly-imaginary creature - the female Slashdotter.
I don't expect this fact to dissuade either you or SiChemist one bit but you fellas do know she's a lesbian, right?
