You are reading it backwards. It's not "linux" the particle that's being included in "GNU/Linux", but "GNU" instead. Nobody's asking stallman to use GNU/Linux instead of just GNU.
That's the strongest argument I've read in favor of not calling it GNU/linux.
RMS can always issue the 2.1 version of the GPL license explictly stating that the software should be named GNU/whatever, and since most of the itme, you're allowed to use the 2.0 version or, at your option, any later version...

Monoliths would lose most of their advantage if standards became so prevalent and programmer skills so high that virtually all software worked easily, flawlessly and interoperated well
Well, monolithsdo foster innovation, or, more precisely, evolution. The fact that all software operates well would imply a higher intelligence, isn't it?

Isn't supposed to improve the products?
I think it would be healthy for both versions to be in direct competition with one another, that way both teams would be motivated to enhance their version. You may argue that this would cannibalize the sales, but then sunspire has more resources than the free developers...
Can this be done when your ISP does not have an A record (nor a PTR) pointing your way? I mean, my IP address does reverse resolve to nothing, so can I assign a CNAME record directly to an IP address (instead of the A as is being done currently)?
It sounds like a novel from Douglas Adams or Terry Pratchett: You have to let the computer time not to run.
I wonder if I will be able to look at pr0n without actually paying...
Actually, resin's classes don't implement the interfaces I'm looking for, but they nonetheless prevent the correct classes from loading.
I don't want to learn a new language to do XSLT transformations, I want to use what works everywhere. I design, write and deploy my own classes. I write my own JSPs, I don't need web designers (in my vanity site anyway), and the good ones love JSP it they are well done (have you heard about taglibs?), in my experience. YMMV, of course
Nowadays most major servlet engines come with their own implementation of JAXP or what-have-you, and no one (but resin's) prevent xalan from working. You may have to explicitly tell what parser you want to use, which shouldn't be a problem anyway since it's not an uncommon thing to do. Try to do a search on google on xalan+resin and then tell me I should be grateful
Yeah, he's asserting GPL is bad, not assigning it any value, and likewise for most of the posts you may have seen on Usenet. It makes me wonder how much you know about reading.
By the way, saying something like '(some boolean expression) is true' is redundant. You may say simply '(some boolean expression)' (or '!(some boolean expression' instead of '(some boolean expressin) is not true').
IBM announced today that it is changing its name. The company formerly known as International Business Machines will be from now on known as "Healing Appliances for Lusers". "We think it better describes our new line of self-healing, independent-thinking computers" said HAL's spokesperson."We are also going to announce our first model with the new HAL logo on it, the HAL-9000"
The hosting company for my vanity site uses Resin as its JSP/Servlet Engine. I've found that caucho's XML implementation is incompatible with Apache's Xerces and Xalan, unless you put apache's jars before in the classpath. Yes, resin has its own XSLT engine, but I'd like to be able to use whatever I want (cocoon, for example) without annoying the support staff. I've tried xalan in other servlet implementations and it worked flawlessly in all of them. Resin may be fast, but it's inconvenient for me.
Oh! You must be one of the so called Very Elder Ones!
I bow before you:)
Probably our user creation times differ just in hours. Being that you seem to post from NZ I'd guess there is some relation between the first UID's and the timezones from the users (I'm in Europe)
Well, now it's the time for Tim O'Reilly to show its compromise for the trend that sustains its company.
Do you think he will Open Source (or free) the software? I think he has nothing to loose, and it might end up enhancing the product.
Yes, I know, by the time I hit submit it will already be redundant... but I can't help it!
It would seem only logical to have it have a Tron feel to it. Or even a Reboot one.
And BTW, what happens when you get killed? Is your account blocked until you are resurrected, or something? There is new mail here
Are those scripts open-sourced? Where can I download them?
But the Moon has this big metallic monolith of aureum proportions, which does... ummm... what is it useful for again?
Umm... can they also SIGKILL from time to time?

That would be java.sun.com, or javasoft.com

So the web site, and all web sites that LINK to them, should be banned, and if they use it it would be like using DeCSS
