    Being also a "PAFM", I note that G.I.s game heavily. From bored pilots gaming in the Alert shack to enlisted gaming in the dorms, it's wired force.

    If _knowing_ a game exists where one side can _choose_ to play ragheads is going to wig someone out, they need help immediately before they go to NTC or into an exercise and flip out when facing the OPFOR in training.

    The population WILL be controlled by Evolutionary mechanisms such as Famine, War, Pestilence, and Death happening as dictated by circumstance.

    We don't all need to survive, and we are groomed by Evolution to be violently competitive for survival. I'd rather gorge on resources and kill the competition if required. I don't really care about the survival of those outside my preferred sort of societies, nor do I expect them to care about me.
    That, if nature be the reference, would be profoundly un-natural.

    They live in a boring, conformist hive culture so when they blow off steam, they REALLY need to blow off steam. An accepted social outlet is a non-disruptive way to do that.
    The old way to vent was upon the neighbors, and we've seen (Nanjing) what that leads to. Better they watch that stuff as a cartoon, fap, and go about their day. Every culture does this to some extent, but the Nips are less prudish than USians.

    NASA could pull of plenty if it skipped sending humans for fifty or seventy-five years then spent the time perfecting the robots we must have anyway to effectively exploit what we find.

    If the mission is really "exploration" then send (lots of) remotely-manned missions.

    There is no urgency to manned missions. We already mechanize as much mining on Earth as possible, to cut costs which include expensive miners (who get killed, maimed, and expensively buried for month).

    If we want to mine space resources, don't bring people, make remote systems so good we won't need humans onsite.

    Of course not, given the silly desire to send humans early in the game.

    There isn't a good reason not to send forty or fifty or whatever remote-manned missions first. Humans would be along for the ride merely for the adventure, which is nice but can wait. If we want to mine space, don't increase the cost by having miners onsite.

    The dumbest idea in the movie Total Recall was that there would be any need for human miners on Mars in the first place.
