    MAN needs to explore space. Mankind doesn't need the US to do it.

    The mission of the USA is now enforcement of corporate globalism.

    We have ceased to be a force for good, and development of other nations would provide greater benefit to humanity.

    You aren't going to get a space ride unless you are insanely rich or an astronaut willing to devote decades to a career in hopes of getting a shot, so stop dreaming.

    Then the counter-move is take shit off the internet which should NEVER have been ON it in the first fucking place. BTW food and water and ammo shipments may be expedited by the internet but can be done without it. Network outages are part of training scenarios.

    Having served before the internet, I know war modern war machines can run very nicely without it.

    I'd welcome cyber attacks and destructive malware because they COERCE an IMMUNE RESPONSE. Seriously. After the slow zebra get eaten, their faster fellows survive to reproduce.

    It's unfortunate for the robustness of the internet that we don't have more destructive malware as opposed to parasitic malware floating about.

    Armament confers advantage. Armaments are fairly easy to make and it's impossible to effectively outlaw all possible precursors.

    I just cut 'em open. I'll take the trade of inconvenience for product protection because I _KNOW_ I should be carrying a knife (or the far more useful multitool) at all times.

    Serrated paring knives work very well. When mine wear a bit, they go from kitchen to "scattered anywhere handy".

    These "Vickies" by the way are terrific utility knives. I even take one to salvage yards to cut radiator hose! They last a LONG time.

    If you need nothing new, don't upgrade until you do due to driver support.

    I keep various XP and 7 VMs and install them for customers, but have no use for either as a primary OS. Ubuntu does fine for that.

    If it goes underwater in a century, that's plenty of time to replace it. That's long enough to replace a city, as MANY cities destroyed in war demonstrate.

    Most buildings don't NEED to last more than say 50 years. They are cheap to build and cheap to demolish and REPLACE with better technology.

    Coastal housing is particularly expendable. You KNOW it's got high odds of getting smashed (consider repeated Gulf Coast hurricanes) so smart people evacuate when required while idiots stay and drown.
    (There is no excuse for not knowing storm surge doesn't care how brave or stupid you are.)

    I am literally enjoying it ATM, through no fault of my own and at no inconvenience to myself.

    My employer (the department boss IS an MBA!) ceased to hunt government funding for workforce training and chucked most of a department.

    They were making a NICE profit too, but are now content with farming Pell Grants (the "corn ethanol subsidy" for community colleges).

    It's all good.

    Exploration is best done by probes. Figuring out how to sustain humans in space is best done by short-range manned missions.

    The two are different. There being no urgency to put meat in space before developing the machines which will be required (forever) for man to interact with the completely hostile environment of space, send robots first. We need those on Terra too.

    This would separate exploration from entertainment while letting "tourists" buy the ride of their dreams.

    There are a considerable number of people who might indeed call it that.

    That's what's called a "barrier to entry". If you are serious, you might do a "Joe Stack" and take some with you. If that's too inconvenient, then you get what you get, but you do have a choice.

    From burning monks who took out themselves, to Jihadist kamikaze bombers who want company in "paradise", plenty of folks have said "no".

    I'm personally too comfortable to bother with that level of self-sacrifice for a public I hold in contempt.
