    I don't think "space" will just inspire. It can and has produced significant advances (and thus careers) — although that benefit might not be running on all thrusters anymore.

    Actually it is AI. What it isn't is Generalized AI. What most AI research is done now is specific techniques to specific problems.

    One thing I never got with the "don't talk to the cops" thing is what happens if you actually the kind of help you would generally phone them for — such as your daughter ran away, or somebody just burgled your home, etc?

    There are other similar efforts, specifically WolfPAC, which aims to reform using a constitutional amendment. Do you feel that these other efforts are complimentary or just duplication of effort?

    I have looked at the language, and although I am an 'Apple Guy', I haven't done much with it yet. The language itself looks like a really really nice language for some of this sort of thing, but I mainly would want it for general purpose — so I agree with your parent that for this application s/he shouldn't look at it. However, if it becomes freely available as a compiler and multiplatform (with libraries) it would be worth a serious look at.

    "My grandfathers fought in a war to maintain our standard of living." What a bunch of bullshit. What war could possibly have had anything to do with standard of living? There was never any credible threat of invasion for almost two centuries. The only thing to improve the standard of living was the exporting of goods to other countries fighting in the war, which doesn't require you actually fighting them.

    What is the actual risk of heart attack? 25% sounds like a lot, but if it is a 25% increase on 0.0000001% chance, then it doesn't sound as good for an article.

    I have done some networking in C. It is a royal pain in the ass. After wrapping it up nicer in C++, the interface is much easier to work with.

    While, CS is definitely applying math, it lies somewhere between Math and Software Engineering. It is certainly not what you minimize it as.
