If you're worried that they are going to force you to give up logs outside of the normal court procedures that the constitution has set forth... then just say, "Screw you!" when they come knocking on the door.
Section 211 doesn't give them the right to gun you down with machine guns and photon torpedos if you don't comply.
So, you might get arrested, but hey, at least you'll go to court!!!!!!!!!
You really should remember about the whole aol.com fiasco where their domain was hijacked by some crackers with a simple forged email to NSI. You shouldn't use email as the method of change and hopefully NSI has disabled this feature.
The book http://www.realworldlinuxsecurity.com/ should provide more information on this front.
Let's see, he was also a major contributor and part of establishing the COMPILER that the whole project uses to build! Plus, hey, when people edit code in emacs/xemacs they're also leveraging a tool that he wrote. No matter how you look at it, RMS has made a contribution.
He provided the license that the entire mess of GNOME sits on. I believe he has been a great contributor to this project. Not only did he influence Miguel to start it up during the KDE/Qt-bashing, but he has established years of a cultural environment that enables large open projects like GNOME to exist instead of being engulfed by proprietary companies.
Just my two bits. Probably redundant, but nonetheless -- valid.
We run Linux at one of our fabs here in Taiwan running a mission critical DB system called C-Tree. This is 24/7 stuff for those of you who don't know how Fabs work.
Not entirely sure what the big deal with ICANN is anyway. Since their control is only "virtual" and the Internet really does not rely on their existance. In fact, we can do just as well without them. They talk about how there needs to be control for TLDs, etc. But, I say WTF?, I can create my own TLD and tell a bunch of people to use.
Just setup named, and you can create any stupid name that exists. Albeit only those few people you tell will know.
Yeah it still costs $$$ to register a domain, but your choices are much wider and if everyone sets this up, then ICANN doesn't mean crap anymore.
Quit your whining and do something about it. Going to those meetings ain't gonna do jack. Because corporate people don't give a crap about you. Just go behind their backs and use your own TLDs!!!!!!!!
Uh, not sure if most slashdotters heard of a thing called MSDN. No, it's not a knock-off of OSDN. Yes it was there before.
Point is not to flame. But rather state, people are going to pay money, even to develop for an operating system (OS applies here since they'll make an OS out of.NET in the future, just watch). I know it's an amazing concept. But companies, developers and the like have been purchasing compilers and/or libraries to develop for operating systems since the dawn of Unix. Nothing new. I mean, look at those VB catalogs floating around. They charged like 200~300 bucks for some stupid form making utility. And the funning thing, is people buy them!
MSDN subscriptions were in the 1,000 ~ 10,000 range, so nothing new or amazing there. Yeah the library is bigger than.NET. But, hey, if you were a monolopy, what would you do? People are going to buy this stuff.
Yeah, but since you have no clear license in connection with the document's copyright, I mirrored it as a service to the community. You made a quote at the beginning of your article:
RIG SHIP FOR IMPACT!
So, I thought I'd lend a hand by putting the text up temporarily on geocities. Since those servers are "rigged" for impact.
But, obviously your implicit license means not to cache the document anywhere. Note I did not modify the document in anyway nor put my name on it. Also note that the counter still hits your site!
Have you contacted google.com and made sure that your document won't be cached?
Might I suggest a nocache pragma in your document and that you take out the description/keywords so that no crawlers or bots cache your document.
After a implicit request by the author, the mirror/cache of the document no longer exists. Sorry for the heartache.
Hell, there are so many people on these DSL networks running compromised servers, it's like a shotgun wound. You don't care where the bullets went in or where they came out. You wrap the thing until it stops bleeding.
Or, guess what, you're dead. Right now they have a few limited resources, 1) Bandwidth and 2) Time. If they want to fix the problem fast they cut port 80. They let the bleeding stop and then they open up.
If you want to write a program that helps them signature each freaking IP on their network and then filter which one is okay or not, go start your project: SF
These guys want to keep most of their customers. When 100% users are having bandwidth problems because of a virus they drop like flies. When 1% that are running Linux get port 80 blocked drop, they don't give a @#$!.
Quit your whining. And go get webhosting for 10$/month at an offsite provider instead of trying to create a web server from crappy components. You're not losing money are you?!!? I'd have to laugh in your face if your trying to run a useful webserver over DSL.
The point of this repost is not that it was a "mistake" or that it was old. The point is, what the hell is Microsoft waiting for? It's been a whole month and they're still going to let people know "as soon as possible" ???
What is this? Can you M$ advocates let me know what this is all about??
I'm in Taiwan as Fab material control software eng. I found this job through several different points of contact. One contact I obtained several years ago while over here. So, one ounce of advice when you're looking international, keep contacts of everyone you meet and you'll be able to go places cool in the future if you want. You never know what kind of strings you can pull until you have a large pool of people you can contact!:)
Also, be careful when you go overseas. Look for a medium to large company, unless you don't mind living in a kitchen with a bed apartment. Asia is expensive, Europe even more so. So, if your company can't provide a good expat package, don't even take the offer. Cause you'll be bitching so much when you get over there, everyone will hate you, your performance will suck and you'll want to go home. K, and this ain't some "American" whiny crap either, it applies to everyone. When people go overseas and live in another country they tend to whine, moan and complain. So, my advice is "shut your mouth", because that's whatever you signed for when you came over Applies to everyone! Pretty nifty stuff.
The link reports error 500 continuously.

I'm so sick of all these crappy features the BIOS companies are adding to their chips. There should be two common goals on their minds:
1. Boot in under 1 sec to the Operating System.
2. Be able to turn off all the startup mess and boot directly to whatever startup screen you want.
Basically this will enable you to make your computer look like a PS/2 if you were really creative.
Maybe the linux bios can help with these goals...
Which do you want? I'd rather take the former. Reducing the amount of redundancy in programs and advocating the concept of reuse is a GoodThing(tm).
Use apt.
Yeah, I know where this is from...
what makes think I like linux?
Uh, food may be cheap, but rent ain't. Trust me on this one, I've been here for years.
Shut up Bill. I know you read tabloids like Slashdot, but you don't have to post anonymously. Why don't you come out of the closet?

They put this together before M$'s code sharing idea. I wonder how they audited the systems for safety. Anyone got any ideas?
I thought NASA actually went through and proved their code before they sent things up. How can they do that with M$?
Realaudio == crap wma == crap mp3 == better can't wait until GBPS is common place.
