Since I don't install branded browsers or extraneous toolbars and enjoy sites working correctly (popups I want show, those I don't die) I use Firefox on Linux. Since I started using this dynamic duo, I haven't been "hijacked". Ever. As for what I want out of the browser; same as I want from any program: minimal resource usage and ability to customize. Right now FF is using a third of the RAM it does in Windows at work. I wonder where the problem is...
If that was all the ram it had, it'd be fine. Crank it up to a meg and watch the extended/high mem fun begin. Seriously, it now makes me wonder if old Billy ever had to fuck around with different boot disks and copy con a bunch of different config.sys and autoexec.bat's on a daily basis. And if he did, why did it take ten years to fix? (well, '95 didn't really fix it, but I can pretend.) Or did his future self use the time machine he'll no doubt have and go back with a copy of vista and they've just been piecing it out over the last 20 years? Makes sense, he was leaving and taking it with him, so they had to rush the whole thing out on a generation of hardware that wasn't quite there yet...
Apple's pair grew easier given that they didn't have just about every large company depending on their stuff to survive.
I think Vista could have been the catalyst for real change. Except now that the next version has been dated at 18 months, not real sure we'll see any. In 18 months I expect to see vista sp2 or 3, not a whole new OS.
Of course by then, we'll have Ubuntu 9.10 and MS won't matter as much...
I would think the point of this would be to examine the code and if theres good stuff in there, merge it with other codebases. Of course that does defeat the "I'll write my own filesystem! With Blackjack! And Hookers!" mentality that seems prevalent...
Some other aggressively marketed monopoly that we'd all be bemoaning to this day? Yes. Some kind and benevolent non-monopolistic break from the "Everyone has a price" eighties? No. I agree that MS wasn't necessary, but some monopoly was. And it would have been just as bad due to the whole "in it for the money" bit.
Although one has to wonder what a OSS 90's would have looked like. We'd probably have some standards by now and maybe even one dominating distribution that everyone here could bitch about constantly..
I sure hope you're shooting in 1080p and RAW, because otherwise your kid must think everyone has cameras growing out of their skulls... Seriously, put down the camera and live a little.
As for storage, I would personally go through and put together maybe a movie and and picture viewer DVD for each year. And then have those professionally mastered onto pressed discs. Keep those in your fire-proof storage and use burned copies for everyday (I hope not) use and sending to relatives and what not.
I'd more expect him to receive some sort of medal for "diversity"...
Seriously, the only reason impeachment is off the table is because the American people wouldn't go along with it. Impeaching him would be like admitting that we were suckered when they used our fear over 9/11 to promote a needless war. It'd be admitting that it's an unjust war and has caused thousands of needless American deaths and countless (as in my calculator only goes to a grillion) Iraqi deaths. We're not ready to admit to that quite yet. Maybe in 30 years or so when they define the '00's for the history books, but not yet. We had our chance 4 years ago but we went with the fun loving frat brother instead of the stuffy old dean because we weren't ready to face the fact that America's gotten pretty sucky and it's no ones fault but our own.
(Well, not my own. My vote went to the other guy in both elections. Fortunately we have the Electoral College to make sure my votes don't count.)
They do call one occasionally invariably against the less marketable team... I'm more interested in getting rid of the "Not Being Kobe Foul", of course it'll have to stay until the finals are over otherwise the better team actually might win...
Replace "lightweight" with "open source" and you sir have just defined the mess that we are in. Instead of saying, "Hey this thing sucks, I'm going to write a replacement," how about "Hey this thing sucks, let me see if they'll listen to my ideas on how to make it better." Of course they won't, because as well all know, we are all each individually right and everyone else is wrong. But you tried.
They'll still reserve the right to search it, and since it can't be easily run through the Pirate-o-Matic on loan from the mpaa, it'll be seized and sent to a processing center (Gitmo jr.) and you'll never see it again.
I tried comparing between what apple sells and these hackintoshes. The closest I could get was a mini with 2 gigs of ram and a 160 gig HDD (psystar has 250 HDD and a better gpu) and it was still twice as much. I did have to laugh though, I never noticed but the case psystar uses is the exact case I just bought for my own hackintosh... And yes the included rear fan is a jet engine just waiting to take off.
Thats exactly what I'm trying to get away from. Piles and piles of books that I've already read and some will not likely read again. I recently cut my paperback section in half, and plan on only keeping paperbacks of series (star trek mostly) which I read in between actual readings. Other than that I'm keeping only hardcovers and trades. And computer books! Ho-ly crap! Unix in plain english from 1982? Pretty sure I can toss that one. Web publishing with Netscape Navigator 4 from 199-whenever? That can go too. Of course they'll all go to local thrift shop charities where they might see some use. Along with culling my DVD, CD and PS2 collections, my next move may just be the best yet.
From my experience, they do. About 3-4 years after launch...

But we haven't even gotten to Iran yet...

And if we can get Quaid to turn on the reactor, we're in business!

Because they're obviously the first Lawyers to ever "work the system"...
Not being out of breath just taking the stairs back to my office on the third floor? Yes, yes that would be bliss.
What exactly do they understand? From the decisions I've seen, "Master of Business Administration" is not a title I'd apply to most...

Except their code name for the real release has always been "Testing"...
And whoever discovers "apt-get install mc" first should be crowned the new chief.

"Thank god we reached you Jim, you've got to get over here, this guy's bleeding out!"
"No problem, let me just round up the wife and kids and I'll see you a week from thursday."

I just had to look...
That's best case scenario...

You may even be able to install one of those new fangled three dee accelerator cards in that PCI slot! Sounds like a bunch of voodoo to me though...

Or increase the number of virtual desktops and map some hot-keys.
Sober = better aim = less innocent bystanders killed...
