good god, i just cant fully comprehend the stupidity in those comments.. thank you so very much for ruining what little faith i had in humanity...
back on topic: Sure modern versions of Windows (Vista/7) might be more secure, but many many businesses still run XP, or even 2000. And keep in mind that whole target-size thing. If a hacker faces equal resistence on both platforms, he might as well go for the biggest target, infecting 1% of all ubuntu users doesnt get you a big botnet, infecting 1% of all windows XP users on the other hand... (or vista, or 7 for that matter)
to a certain degree yes, but as i pointed out, i have two 360s, and i need to move my profile from machine to machine (along with saves). The only easy way to do this is to have the profile and saves on a memory card, which are frickin expensive.
Also, not all 360's come with a hard drive, the arcade/core version have no hard drive (later arcades come with built in 256mb flash). And again.. If you want to move around profiles/saves on the xbox, a memory card is the only easy way to do it (for profiles you could 'recover' it through XBL, but that is a bit stupid when gaming at a friends place, and requires internet. You could also swap hard disks, but that doesnt allow you and your buddy to both use your own profiles at the same time)
fully agreed, zoidberg isnt ment to be the star of the show, but one hell of a sidekick! I honestly though the whole zoidberg mating episode was rather weak, but in other episodes he has some of the best appearances ever!
once again the conservative, sandwich-heavy portfolio pays off for the hungry investor -- Zoidberg
also keep in mind that iphone users are well accustomed to the fact that apps cost money. sure there are many free apps, but for the good stuff (the non-demo games etc.. any really usefull util (iSSH FTW)), you have to pay. Linux users on the other hand got their OS for free (most of them anyway), have a huge repository of free software to install, lots of built in functionality etc... so most of the time they dont see the point in paying for something..
now i am at a point where i personally (not professionally sadly) have moved 95% of my computing to linux, i only use an old xp partition on my laptop for itunes, because my ipod touch requires it. And i find it awesome how much you can get for free... However if ID software releases a new game with a linux version inmediatly available, i will buy the game if i want it, rather then pirate it. The sad thing is though, that i have a feeling linux support is actually dropping. Ut2004 came with all the needed files on the disc, UT3 doesnt even have linux client, three years after release (so F you epic...)
anyway, for many linux freaks paying for software seems to be a no-no, that might influence game designers
just out of curiosity, what software did you buy that killed a piece of hardware, and what hardware did it kill?
i always sort of assumed (from my technical education), that it should be damn near impossible to kill a computer with software, most hardware should have some basic failsafes to prevent physical damage..
I was considering asassins creed 2, but after the whole pc-drm debacle i refuse to even buy it for the xbox (which i would have done). My girlfriend is a big fan of the command and conquer franchise, but after hearing that C&C4 (released this week), would incorporate always-online drm (as in, the game logs you out of single player the second your connection drops), she flat out refused to buy the game, and that is before we read the part of the review about how they screwed up the gameplay (no more basebuilding etc..)
EA wasnt exactly one of my favorite companies, but they and ubisoft have officially made my shit-list with this stuff. Honestly though, i cant remember the last EA-game that i actually really loved (BF2 was ok, but support was terrible)
you dont need a supersonic car to have some action in a chase..
just send a fricking F-22 raptor (or A-10 warthog, if supersonic isnt a requirement, but massive gattling cannons are a plus) to stop those runaway prius'
only if the jet fighter physically couldnt fly above, say 10 feet. The OP explicitely stated "an 'association' to the ground, and a strict limitation in terms of altitude still qualifies as ground based".
i would find it rather difficult to classify a verhicle capable of going max 10 feet of the surface as an actual aircraft. Off course hovercraft are a peculiar issue, since they are amphibious.. the would be classifiable as both a 'land vehicle' and a 'sea vehicle'.
Also, good luck trying to find a jet pilot willing to fly 1000mph 10 feet above groundlevel, im betting the ground effect would make the aerodynamics so unsuitable for the jet, that even if you could pull it off, a single disturbance (any obstacle on the surface impacting airflow) would be enough to send the jet up in the air, into the ground, or where-ever, depending on how the pilot reacts
except for the fact that Mach isnt a fixed number, but rather the speed of sound in the same medium... a small change of humidity/air pressure will change what 1.31 Mach actually means...
now c on the other hand... (oh and dont start on propagation speed in stuff like water, the photons still do c)
i would argue that not the design method, but rather the designed purpose would determine what an object is.
This thing is designed to move accross a hard surface supported by wheels, pretty much making it a car (notice i explicitely said wheels to rule out any funnymen with the 'but but hovercraft is a car' argument).
It might not be a car in the traditional ford sense of the word, you wont drive your kids to school in it, and it isnt practical for everyday use, but its purpose is still driving accross terain.
sound is horribly foobarred in ubuntu 9.10... i ended up fighting with my soundblaster live too
I'm not quite sure what i ended up doing in the end, but i get stereo sound out, and it doesnt just die anymore on occasion, so now it is tollerable...
i am, off course not speaking for the GP, but i personally was confused a bit by the pictures of the shuttle on top of its transport-747, before i really got deep into space-stuff. Coupled with the fact that smaller rockets can be air-launched into space, i must have somehow thought the shuttle could do the same from its carrier-747.
This was all before i really started studying space stuff though, no such delusions anymore (and before i got a solid grip on physics, the only way a shuttle could do a 747 launch is if it has a frikkin warp-core..)
not exactly 'living hell', but there are areas in europe (some parts or some countries), where christianity is still so very much the norm that not going to church on sunday will make your neighbours like you much less, and this can very much impact your social life. Sort of shun-light.
Cristians tend to be far more forgiving compared to islam, but still far from perfect
While I love and trust my family, they shouldn't be making that decision for me - nor should they be allowed to
on this point i disagree. When i die, i will be a lifeless bag of meat/bones/organs. I personally do not care about what happens to my body after i die (ok, letting it rot in a dumpster would be a tad distasteful, but i wont notice). The people who survive me however, need to come to terms with my passing, and in the end those people are the ones i care about the most. They should be allowed to do with my remains as they see fit, so they will feel they did the right thing.
Now i would off course think that donating my organs would be a noble desicion, but for instance donating my cornea's would leave my eyes horribly changed, and i would not want my survivors to have to look at a mangled corpse (unless they decide they are OK with it, off course).
Anything that happens to me after death does not affect me anymore, but it does affect those i leave behind, so they should be the ones making the call
honestly, i think giving donors preference is WRONG, basically it is an unfair bias on who gets that liver. The person who needs it the most (and wants it obviously) should get it
If that law is passed, i want to be giving preference at every payed-by-tax institution, since i pay more tax then my average fellow-citizen, i want it so that the people with cheap run-down cars can only drive in the right lane, since they pay less in taxes for using the road..
This proposal just goes right against the whole belief that everyone should be treated equally, and sure sometimes i would love to be treated better then the rest, but it just isnt fair (and god, how i hate that:P)
It is the first time i saw it, and i am not (A) unable to read, have not (B)been in a coma for ten years (unless it's secretely 2020, and everyone is playing along with me in one huge reality show...) and i sure i hope i dont have uh... erm... what was i talking about? WHO ARE YOU? Get off my lawn!
good god, i just cant fully comprehend the stupidity in those comments.. thank you so very much for ruining what little faith i had in humanity...

Does this means i can use my simple USB stick instead of a memory card to keep my savegames on? (i have two xboxes, so i need portability)
Either MS just killed their memorycard business, or this usb stuff is rather useless..
Also, YAY now you can just get the cheapest arcade xbox you can find, and a $10 usb stick, and have massive fun
i believe the correct phrase would be "The lameness filter can bite my shiney metal ass"

33 -- a semiprime
small correction on this one, 33 -- the type of my first (own, not lease) car
anyway, spot on on the 25 and 32, not sure about how the 7-17-12 popped in my head though
different one though:
this one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfa_Romeo_GTV_%26_Spider Preferably a 3.0 v6
lets see...
7-17-33-12-25-32
no guarantees though, she also likes the sims....
(but makes up for that by always giving me the most awesome geek-presents, lego star-destroyers and such...)

*looks up*
It's a bird! It's a nazgul riding a dragon! Noo.. It's a joke
im thinking it would be more of a domino effect. Dumping all that stock might send one or two banks over the edge, crashing the financial market
