Silverlight includes a subset of.NET, it doesn't require a framework to be installed. Installing the.NET framework does not put you at risk for web attacks. As for Silverlight I haven't heard of a single drive-by attack.
As for WP7 you don't need.NET to write applications but if anything it is safer than Win32 applications due to using managed code..NET in no way should be lumped in with Java when it comes to security. Don't smear.NET with Java's problems.
W3Schools is a website for people with an interest for web technologies. These people are more interested in using alternative browsers than the average user. The average user tends to the browser that comes preinstalled with their computer, and do not seek out other browser aternatives.

Enough propaganda already, Linux is around 1% and has been for years. Admitting this isn't going to change anything.
Most geeks run Windows. Most Slashdotters run Windows. There is no growing group of disenfranchised technical elite. I'm really tired of all the wishful thinking here when it comes to Linux. Maybe it is time to admit that Linux has problems and needs some work before it can gain popularity as a desktop system.
Here is the problem with open source alternatives to proprietary software: most don't exist. Why was there never a good GNU Flash alternative? There is no Flash for FreeBSD but it isn't as if the GNU crew came up with anything better. All they have is Gnash which is behind and lacks developers.
And yet after all that Apple can somehow sell computers without Windows for over $1000. Have you considered the possibility that Linux is the problem and not M$?
The myth is that it is Apple is far ahead of any pc manufacturer and that is factored into the high price. In reality Toshiba has outranked Apple numerous times and is towards the bottom when it comes to price.
Yes I realize that but have you seen how much Macbooks go for on ebay? A working Macbook from 2008 will fetch over $600 easily and then you have to add the cost of Windows.

That's the more common problem.
Another fascinating retort. Perhaps next time you could include "M$"? It's a crowd favorite.
There aren't .NET applets or plug-ins. It's either full blown local or server side.
But ours goes to 11.
W3Schools is the one that is skewed.

They seem to be a popular gift.
You're like the PETA fanatic that shows up at a bbq knowing there would be meat and still chooses to annoy everyone.
How about something more realistic like world peace?
WGA has merely driven crackers to break it.

Most programmers don't care either. FSF and their followers are not only out of touch with the mainstream but also with most geeks.
You should try WP7, it's pretty neat.
It's a Monty Python reference.
Post the specs.
With inner snarky addition!
Luddites and people that edit photos, type papers, use tax prep software, use business software. Basically everyone who uses a desktop today.

Xbox, Visual Studio, Sharepoint, Office, peripherals.

Why would your wife need a quad core cpu? Unless she is doing 3D design or some other processor heavy work a dual core ix is plenty.
Yet again the Mac reliability myth rears its ugly head.

All laptops are made in China, I'm not sure why so many think that Apple laptops are somehow magically special on the inside.
Toshiba and Mac rate much higher than HP and Gateway when it comes to reliability.
Have they bought into the Mac reliability myth?
