    Why do so many people not understand that IP addresses are not magic? Really, how hard is it to find the IP address that corresponds to etoys.com? If script kiddies can't figure it out, it's their ignorance.

    But in Texas, those least likely to be educated are the poorest. Those most likely to be scammed (it's a scam--the state knows it, or they wouldn't be sponsoring it) are those for whom the money they lose to the state is the greatest portion of their wealth (or lack thereof). A rich fool isn't going to miss the $20 he wastes every week; a poor fool would miss a quarter of that amount.

    Yes, thanks to the lottery, we've replaced the necessary evil of a tax on everyone (but especially the wealthy) with a tax on everyone uneducated enough to spend money on the lottery (but especially the poor). I suppose you believe that having a lower class is a necessary evil, then?

    A healthy pregnancy is not something to attempt in space. In addition to all the biological problems related to zero-g, you've got the poor medical conditions with which to contend. Even with a doctor, there's no real replacement for a hospital. You wouldn't want to carry all that load just so that you can have a pregnant woman in space.

    I don't think Sun was terribly pleased when they realised that they would no longer be able to make huge profits from Solaris licensing. Now they're just desperate to sell anything to keep the stock price up. From their perspective, selling hardware without software is better than selling nothing at all.

    If the Secret Service thinks you've counterfeited something, they can try and obtain a warrant to get your printer's serial number. If it matches the watermark, they have another piece of evidence.

    IIRC, we have 21 pairs of autosomal chromosomes and 2 pairs of sex chromosomes (X is sex-linked, Y is sex-limited). Remember that meiosis leaves gametes with only one set of chromosomes, so you're guaranteed to inherit half your chromosomes from each of your parents.

    (This is all an oversimplification, I'm sure.)

    IIRC, behind the motherboard (which was vertical near the back) was a protective metal sheet of some sort. It had the signatures (reproduced, of course) of everyone who worked on the SE.
