Why is this so difficult to accept?

Because its bull? You don't seem to realize that downloading music and movies off the net is only free if your time is worthless. It can take you weeks to download Spider-Man or Star Wars, only to find out that its a shitty copy that someone shot with a video camera in the theater, and some fatass walks in front of the screen during the middle of the movie.

Or you could just work another 3 hours at your part time job, and get an origional copy with all the cd artwork or the DVD extras.

But by trying to keep their obscene profit margins (like charging more for DVD than VHS though DVD's are cheaper to manufature, ship and stock) the industry makes it worth Joe User's time to go find a movie online.

    Mircrosoft would not:

Put a clause in their EULA that states that consumers could get refunds for installed copies of Windows if the consumer disagreed with the license, only to turn around and violate that license when the consumer requested his refund.

Name their PDA operating system in such a way that an abbreviation forms a word for a reaction to pain.

Fake a demonstration of how badly Windows is impared when Internet Explorer is removed for an anti-trust trial, and get caught.

And Microsoft would absolutely, positivly, not spend a couple hundred million marketing their upcomming consol system only to find out that someone else owned the trademark.

    Yes, Microsoft thinks of everything.

Especially since a conversation between an athiest leaning child and a group of bible thumping kids will be anything but rational? Even more true when you throw in the burst of "patriotism" following 9/11. So not only is little John going be be called a satan worshiper for not saying the pledge, but a terrorist as well.

As a 20 something guy I can stand up to bible thumpers and tell them to fuck off if they try to give me shit for not beliving in god. But anybody who wants to throw that burden on a 7 or 8 or 11 year old also needs to fuck off. :)

just disagrees with breaking up Microsoft into two monopolies from one.

Except they wont be monopolies. As other people have pointed out, Microsoft leverages its products to take over the market. IE is the top browser because it was integrated into Windows. Office is the domminant office sweet because of big discounts if it was bundled with Windows. If MS gets broken up into an os company and an apps company they can't do that anymore.

His solution is to penalize Microsoft and force them to adopt different business practices

Which wouldn't do jack shit, and Jack's on his way out of town. Fining Microsoft or forcing them to open up the desktop wont take care of the core problem: MS using the os to leverage its apps and vice versa. If they are forbidden from doing 3 anti-compeditive business practices they'll just come up with 5 new ones to replace them.
