If you outlawed copyright law, then there would still be trade secrets. Technically, the Windows source code is copyrighted, but it is also a trade secret and is protected by extra-legislative means (in other words, the courts made trade secrets up).
So, getting rid of copyright does not get rid of closed systems. Splitting hairs, perhaps. But isn't that what law is all about?
(The next paragraph is just me, IANAL, guessing)
If you got rid of copyright, then anyone could take the newly un-GPLed software, and make it a trade secret. Or at least distribute binaries without the source code.
IANAL also, but just because you agree to a license does not mean it will stand up in court. A judge is not probably (hopefully) not going to buy Borland agrument (explaining why this can't be a jury trial) of "he clicked OK".
Remember that Excite@Home is not an entity representing stockholders anymore, as it was before it filed for bankruptcy, but is being controlled by those who Excite@Home owes money to. Considering that ATT owns like a third of Excite@Home it would not have made sense otherwise.
I've been playing the Demo and the interface for fighting is hard to use. To really enjoy this game, you need to become familar with the keyboard bindings something I intend to do when I get the game (the keybindings for movement is easy to remember, so I already use it).
I do not know if having menus and such would actually make the game much easier and it would look ugly.

Well it looks like they are not - thus leading me to be believe they (they being large companies) only "defend their trademark" of sites they disagree with.

harrypotterthemovie.com, unlike various *sucks.com sites, is good for the company it is infringing upon. Why would AOL Time Warner put up any objections to Amazon taking that site to sell Harry Potter books and movies (though they may not like the book part too much, the two medias do feed each other)? Unless they asked permission (which is entirly possible) it is something ICANN would get mad about, but because AOL Time Warner is not going to bring charges they won't.
I do not like how they cut out parts (spoilers)

I've preface this with the fact that movies have to cut out plot. For instance, instead of having the dragon Norber hatching out of an egg and then later mentioning "oh, Dumbledore sent it to Romania" is stupid. I wouldn't be surprised if they had the rest of that the plot shot but cut it out. Instead they just should have cut it out completely. In general, there seemed to be too many half-baked plots like that and replace them with some the ancedotes in class. For instance, we never really got to hate Snape.
Overall, if you havn't read the book then the characters are going to be undeveloped. Of course, who hasn't read the book - maybe this movie should be seen as a "book companion".
The time constraints and the fact that it is hard to translate "and Harry thought..." into a movie are the two big adaptions for a movie.
Sir-Tech Canada is dead and nothing will bring them back. They went bankrupt a few months ago. I'm not sure where the money is going to go, probably just the shell of Sir Tech Canada or to their creditors.
However, I've downloaded the demo and it looks like a good non-rushed game. The demo locks up a lot, so I'll have to wait for a new computer or a patch before I dare buy it.
I think whoever wrote the New York Times artical should have prefaced it with IANAL. I would be very surprised if in fact it is actually public domain - as open source and public domain are in some ways opposite but the "journalist" probably did not know this and thought they were the same thing. Or thought (probably correctly) that the reading public is too stupid to understand things like "open source" and calling open source public domain is close enough.
Or perhaps it is IBM being a dumb ass and is really releasing software in the public domain, but I doubt it.
While obviously if your short on memory you can't open very many windows. But in MS Windows, everything is given a GDI number. Its kind of like a pointer, but more crappy. It was a way for them to save memory in the Windows 3.1 days. In Windows 9x the number of GDI's were tripled, and they should be increased more in XP (each program gets as many GDIs as all of Windows 9x IIRC). However, I do not think there is an improvement from Windows 2000.
Since it does not fit in the MBR, like Grub or Lilo (or the windows boot loader, for that matter), but is in fact kind of its own little operating system it is harder to use.
I think I'll install it on my next computer because it looks nifty. It will impress family and friends.
Who the hell is MongooseCN? Who is eean? Really, everyone is just as anonymous, unless they choose not to be (like putting a link to their website up.) If the government wants to, they can get the IPs of an A.C. just as easily as they can a registered user.
I think ACs are just too lazy to get a login or want to post something stupid and not blemish their karma while doing it.
I've done some video conferencing and it just seems silly. I do not know if I really like being able to see the person I'm talking to or visa versa. It makes it harder to multitask. I can't cook or read a website while videoconferencing, but I can while on the telephone or instant messenging.
I agree. I've done the Kylix tutorial, and I do not really like Delphi.
I have C++ Builder on Windows and it is a very nifty program. Once it is out for Linux I'll be able to port my game without any changes, if what they say is true.
Once there is a C++ version, and *nix people start learning it, I think it will start being more popular,
Instead of simply suggesting to your boss to take less clients, it would be better idea to suggest raising the price. It is economic theory in action; the demand is growing faster then supply so the price is raised. This should then reduce the demand (aka number of clients.)
Why are they launching the rocket from the Kodiak islands?
Don't you need a more powerful rocket the farther away you get from the equator? I heard that was why the Russians built such powerful rockets because they launched them from Siberia.
Florida makes a lot more sense.
There is that one company the launch's rockets from a ship so that they can do it at the equator and avoid the here-today-gone-tomorrow governments that are on the equator.
Linus isn't working on 2.4.x anymore.
Um, that is what he is doing. Linus is working on 2.4.x anymore.

It says that it works with LILO. Does anyone know whether it will work with Grub?
It doesn't boot Linux. It can boot LILO, which I assume does not have any problem with ReiserFS.

What is a good company to use to get a .info domain name?
We should get rid of the whole idea of TLDs. It is an artifical limitation.
Why should we support the Israelis? The Palestinans got kicked out of their homes. Since like if we should support anyone it is them.

Mozilla is written in C++. C++ is good.
C may be the best for OS's, but C++ makes writing easy to debug programs easier.
