Yeah perhaps I should change that, or at leaste have it only pop that message up if your non running IE. Its kinda funny, now that I get pissed off when a website requires IE. Like the trouble ticket systems of my companies web site. It breaks in any other browser, and yes I telling it I was running IE.
Your site if from 1999 ?
Almost forgot about that website. I avoid web sit like the plauge, to user interface oriented for me. I did that whole publishing thing in high school. Mostly printed stuff. Just can't do it anymore. My friends don't understand how I can own a Mac and even have photoshop installed. Its for C and unix programming. And the browsing the web.
Ok, I live with my parent by choice. Went to college, failed out for several reasons boiling down to laziness and passiveness. Did the "real job" at burger king. Moved on. Working as an overnight shift AS/400 Operator , general tech support bitch. Purposely staying out of school cause I feel I have to great a debt level for a person of 22 with no significant assets.
In between Burger King and now I held the title of security guard, but auctualy wrote a VB app to automate many of the human resource functions of the business. Being the business involves renting out warm bodies this was a majority of the business proccess.
I now use my programming skills to automate the stupid bullshhit my boss gives me. Like zipping and burning to CD IIS log files. And before you call me a VB monkey, I've also written useful apps in C, perl, and the ocassional stupis sh or vbscript app.
I make decent money. I live with my parents because rent is free. They do laundry and sometimes I eat at home. but with my commute and overnight shift I take advantage of the toaster oven in the office kitchen.
I don't own a car. I dont even have a license cause I dont have the time to practice. I could make the time to practice and pay a drivers ed instructor, but I'm to cheap to.
It is a personal choice that I live at home. I'm attempting to get out of student loan debt. My parents don't mind, and the situation is temporary. Its inconvient, but it serves a purpose. You may still feel I am a loser, and are entitled to that opinion. However, I have my reasons and they are mucgh more than I'm a poor lazy bastard.
I'd love to get in a biding war, unfortunatly I am am of the pathetic still lives with my parents variety of geek and their complaining about the SparcServer 1000 sitting in my garage. If only they woul let me put a 220V outlet in the garage.
I've personally noted on my console and Xterms that >> and 2>> away large peices of text to dev/null speeds up command execution. So even on the local system here is a sped diference.
Yes I'm sure there was a large need for Abacus support. I very much doubt abacus manufacturing, training or support was anyones primary job function. I think your average mathamatacian from the middle ages had his local carpenter make him one and showed his apprentences how to use them, but very much doubt if there were 100 people that ever lived that spent more than a year of there life doing abacus IT.
In other news, SCO executives claim that Parts of natalie Portmans wardrobe from Episode 1 were from SCO source code and proceded to pour hot grits down their pants.
*nix people still battle over vi vs. emacs, for crying out loud.
First of all we battle over VIM vs Emacs. Secondly this is completly irrevelant to your argument. Linux ships with 2 text editors that kick the shit out of notepad. And I have minimal knowledge of emacs and find it to be notepads superior. So don't give me any learning curve arguments. Terminal services is only available on XP and advanced server. Also, there is no secure remote CLI. While not essential for a headless envirorment, very useful for a shop built on the autimation script mentality. Do not compare ssh to terminal services. If you want to compare ssh tunneled X or VNC to terminal services, that is another case entirely.
Not true, my ISP, LI based unamed to protect the innocent, never lost connectivity. Our links to the world are AT&T, but our T1s to clients are verizion.

No, it can use DLLs from a "real" version of windows, or its own DLLs. I dont know what the support level is. Tried to get gold mine working on it once. Diddnt succeed, didnt push to hard when I realized I'd rather save my CPU cycles and citrix into the terminal server.
At this point we need better marketing. We have a user interface. We have office productivity. We have better development tools than any deity worshipped by members of the slashdot community. We could use some better printer support. We are holding out well on the CRM front. What we really need is to win the hearts and minds of a few marketdriods.
I'm starting to think that (L)GPLv3 should involve a clause invokable by the author of a project so covered that it not be used in any commercial application whether source is included or not.
The whole point of the LGPL was to be used for "cloned libraries" and allow them to be placed into closed source systems until RMS achieves his Free software utopian fantasy. Also with that clause how is it different from the GPL?
Its more for the performance and reputation than IOS. Not that IOS isn't great for configuring routers as opposed to the duck tape and metal scraps approach of Unix, but the real issue is hardware performance.
Next time it comes in, Its getting a new OS. I wonder if she'll notice.
I wonder if there are any KDE themes out there that are designed so she wouldn't notice.
I hardly think that learning enough C to write DLLMain() ( __asm{ foo eax, ecx;}} is really that big an issue. Also, anyone who is serious about VisualBasic know enough C to understand how to do API calls.
Now while I never used Delphi I realize that it is a "Real Language" that compiles to real executables. So in that regard it is a better solution. However, if your number crunching code is written in assembly, C, perl, lisp, or whatever "real" language you choose, it don't matter what your user interface is written in as long as it don't takje a gig of your ram up.
Auctually you can call assembly DLLs in visual basic. I've seen my friend, a mechanical engineer do it. The man could do more with a 133Mhz pentium running Windows95 than I could do with an ultrasparc
Keep open source from gaining mindshare - this doesn't directly apply to me, but I'd draw a parallel between this statement and someone like Christopher Reeve donating time to collecting money via charities for spinal research that's obviously in his own personal interest. While you could argue Reeve could devote his own time and influence towards something like curing AIDS (assuming he has no personal stake in an AIDS cure), why should he? If curing his own problems also results in cures for 1000s of others, so be it. I'm sure MS sees keeping open source under wraps as a benefit for society as a whole; everything they've said and done on this issue over the last few years demonstrates that the MS company absolutely believes open source=bad for the world at large.
The difference here is Christopher Reeves would give money to a research project if it was trying to create a medecine that would regrow spinal tissue and kill AIDS. Now I don't think such a medecine could ever exist, but the point is while Christopher Reeves definatly has a bias towards spinal research he doesn't believe (curing aids == bad) and isn'r doing anything to purposefully hinder aids research.
Does Microsoft have a right to do this legeally and ethically according to the socio-econimic theories that the United States, the country MS is headquatered in was founded on? Absolutly!
However, note that the constitutional basis for intellectual property laws, To promote the progress of science and useful arts, by securing for limited times to authors and inventors the exclusive right to their respective writings and discoveries, clearly states that intellectual property is a temporary thing. Also the patent system is set up so that after a limited period of time invention are effectively "open sourced." While our founding fathers would probally have tarred and feathered RMS for being what we today deem a "dirty hippie," I think they would have liked some of there ideas.
No way man Word Perfect 5.1 for Dos all the Way. All you need is an 8088 with a CGA graphics card, Hit F11 to reveal codes and look all 31337, and you can even render what the printed output will look like on your screen. All on an 8088 with 640k of Ram. Damn I wish they would release the source code for it. I'd start porting it to linux soon as I could CVS it.
Setup a legacy doom server, unless you have another prefered version. When during the 2300-0700 EST (GMT-5:00) are you available for having you ass handed to you? This will bring back found memories of two years ago when I got massive death match games going in my uni. Use freedoom as the IWAD, but naturally you pick the level and any pwads. Send ip/time/other info to jdearing!cuthNObeat.LUNCHEONMEATcom. Naturally my email server doesnt use bangs.

Do you have any point other than pointing out my careless use of possesive pronouns.

Of course if they want a no questions asked buyer I'll shell out a few grand.
That would be a good name for an AIM client marketed for 10 year old girls.

I don't believe that the end justifies the means but people downloading OpenBSD would probally be the most positive consequence of this lawsuit.
Probally one of the reasons it was so damn good. I might just see if I can find some install disks and fire up DOSemu.
