I attend the University of Pennsylvania (go Quakers.) and I was beginning to seriously consider realizing my old passing and going for a Computer Science degree with Mathematics and (maybe) Linguistics on the side. I'm not interested in software engineering as much as I am in the more theoretical side of Computer Science. Am I setting myself up for failure in the long run? I figure I could enter the academy if jobs/research opportunites really do all magically transport to India (not to shun academia, mind you). Here is a link to our Computer Science department.
Someone else (not a rabid Mac fan like myself) already taught me this.
Here's the kick for me: I'm a univeristy student. A freshman at that. Part of our freshman dining deal is something called Dining Dollar$ (that horrible, horrible $/S substitution should give away which school I go to to any of my fellows) which I can use to buy as much Pepsi as I can possibly consume. As a freshman, I'm forced to get DD'$ as part of my meal plan. So, I get a guaranteed winner, and subsequently convert my Dining Dollar$ (...) which I barely use (I had ~$100 left at the end of last semester) into music. Go me.
Word. I was just in the market for one, and seriously considering picking up a crumpler. I just can't find anyplace that has the one I want (Wack-O-Phone) in stock. Alas.
At my school we have full wireless coverage. Granted, it's a residential school. Are there any other high schools, residential or not, that have wireless networks on campus?
What's a good Linux 802.11b solution? I'm going to school in a few days and the network's gonna be wireless. Here's the catch: I know jack squat about setting up such things as Linux PCMCIA cards. Can anyone point me in the direction of a good Linux notebook AND a good Linux 802.11b solution?
But I want a NEW one! I called Powermax the other the day (I'm seriously in the market for a notebook, and the Pismo is perfect, but I want a NEW one!) and they had just sold their last one. Bummer. Otherwise, the G3s do make great laptops.
Hey: can someone help me convince my dad to let me spend the money on a refurb?

They should engrave each one with a number and put on a little plaque that says "once part of the world's 3rd fastest supercomputer."
Come on, there's collectors' item potential written all over this! With a signed letter of authencity by Srinidhi Varadarajan.

Hmm... works for me too, and I got my 12" Powerbook right before the new 1GHz ones came out, i.e., mid-September.
Huttah! I almost did the exact same thing. I'll be ordering later today.
It was Mitch Taylor. Me? I should win about 36.8% of the prizes. Including the car.

Quantum Theory: A Very Short Introduction is a pretty good, mathless (well, except for the appendix) look at some of the important discoveries of the 20th century.
