This is just smart. Car companies do it too. They sell to people who want fuel economy. If a car company could make a powerful safe car that ran for 500 miles on 1 gallon of gas, they'd do it.
As far as Wal-Mart goes, I am not convinced what they are doing is for profits. They certainly have been keeping their PR department working in response to public criticism and this may their work. Certainly power sipping bulbs are a greater risk for increasing sales/profits then say promoting easier sells like computers or other electronics.
This is in the same spirit as Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs but more appropriate for beginning computer programming. Scheme is a good choice so download DrScheme and have fun!
Do well in your math and science coursework now and get into a good CS program when you are out of high school.
Referrals are a good place to start. Find out more about the data center; don't just hit the buy button on the website. How about taking responsibility for your reliability? That means having a backup plan and being able to quickly move to another facility. Its just like anything else really. Do you homework.
Damn you're right! Someone should have modded me flamebait because I was dead wrong on that. I don't know why I thought Mac OS X apps had the same problem as Windows apps. I guess I need to fix this Mac then.
From that perspective, most modern operating systems can be made secure. You can secure Windows and Mac OS X by setting up accounts this way as well. The problem is applications in Windows and Mac OS X do not adhere to these sound security policies and end up making a system generally not as easy to work with. Some applications in these operating systems just don't work properly without silly permissions. The reason why other UNIX variants are easier to maintain without security concerns is that the applications are able to run with tight permission settings.
Have you looked at a OS X system? I have because I own one. Unfortunately, some important information is writable by users by default. Specifically Applications and Library in / comes to mind. There is a lot of system stuff that is protected, but there is more that would have to be done than wiping the home directory. Another reason I miss Debian!
If you don't want to do the math you don't have to. I suppose when you are talking about further study in CS you are talking about graduate programs. While some programs are highly mathematical, some programs are not. If you are good with algorithms and with the computer languages, I say you are good to go. The way I see it is that many programs have the mathematics sort of built in for people who are interested technology but not "computer science".
If you want to be an academic, then you have no choice but to getting deep into math. But if you perhaps are interested in less theoretical research or application of cutting edge technology then look around for a CS program that fits you. On the other hand, if you are not looking for graduate school and want to finish CS and start working, you will be more than prepared for a lot of technical work.
If Smith and Wesson didn't release they're gun to the public because it would mainly be used for killing, and it was fully automatic, night vision, etc. then it probably is used for killing.
I second the recommendation on the tour. Not something to go too far out of your way for but if you are in the area, this is a sweet way to enjoy good beer. If you feel like trying something new, you might be able to have a taste of La Folie if you ask. http://www.newbelgium.com/beers_lf.php It is unlike anything I've ever tried.

I have to agree, halfway. This is a fun game. I've been playing it for a while. I stopped, however, because I felt the saving was too difficult. I'm not a hard-core gamer so I don't want to spend time doing over the same scenario. If you are a casual gamer, you will do this over and over. Sometimes, you cant save to disk until you finish several checkpoints. Again, some gamers like a challenge.
I think this game would have been great if it wasn't for this. The graphics are incredible and it would have been the perfect game to just start up and kick ass without getting into plots and reading dialog etc. Another annoyting thing: you have to watch an intro movie every time you start the level. Its like a minute long. It gets annoying.
Nothing is changed in the normal process of ripping and seeding shows from cable so why would it when someone offers it with DRM? Did I miss something?
While I have no personal experience of working in the industry or attending one of the courses, I tell people to get a degree in English literature, psychology, world religions, history, creative writing or philosophy.
Would you like fries with that? Seriously, I do have respect for these fields. However, this is not the type of education good for the majority of computer game design. If you have a talent for 3D art, go for it if you can face the competition. How about computer science? Duh! Math and physics are good too. Then again, why was some random blog post on front page again?
The article specifically states this is a legal matter. How the law handles proper use of copyrighted material is what is important, although it does seem unfair. Using the engine may have different arrangements. You did read your EULA, didn't you?
Well antitrust is not always a part of capitalism, and in the US antitrust is a part of the FTC. The administration picks the FTC and they decide who gets investigated. Just look at the Reagan years and you see all kinds of crazy mergers that would have never happened before. The Bushes have been pretty easy on M&A as well.
It seems he should know what he's talking about, however what is interesting is that there is no indication of his education. I'm not trying to dismiss him because of this, but economic theory is an academic field. But if anyone cares to challenge my point I'd be glad to respond.
That leaves us with Napoleon's explanation: Never attribute to conspiracy that which can be explained by incompetence. This view of the world is antithetical to economics, because the dismal scientists tend to be suspicious of people's motives but credit them with vast intelligence.
This is not how the economic theory works. Producers can enter markets and produce at any price they want. However, they will quickly lose market share until their economic profit approaches zero as more firms enter at lower prices or if other producers already exist in the same market they get no profit. However, this is not a perfectly competitive market i.e. agriculture would be close. Just a clarification; non-economists can easily make many theoretical errors easily so take this with a grain of salt when reading the econ stuff.
I think the combination of the words "individual and corporation" demonstrates a growing confusion on the nature of modern industrial organization. Corporations only have the same consideration as individuals under US law, however will still behave as a firm (profit maximizations or whatever you want to believe).
Why increasingly believe that firms somehow have some moral apparatus while owners are increasingly seperated from firms operations? The days of owner-operators are gone. Its joint-stock now and there is no way to expect firms to behave in a socially considerate way unless they are forced to. So I'm a left-winger too, but this is mostly for the right-wingers (economically speaking).
Seriously! Why does everyone here claim to be experts on all types of law, IP and otherwise? I am no lawyer, but I know that lawyers study hard in law school and for the bar for a reason: the law all in the details.

Never underestimate the power of collusion in the marketplace. It kills competition.

Parent is correct. It is truly mind boggling how terrible his reasoning is. You simply don't define infinity and -infinity as numbers. That is not what they are. Add this guy to the list of cranks http://www.amazon.com/Mathematical-Cranks-Spectrum -Underwood-Dudley/dp/0883855070
I will agree with parent. However, take a look at

If only I got this advice in high school.

"According to a UK news source" the article claims. This is fit for the tabloids. I guess thats why its posted by Zonk.
Get a mac and then "forget" about how to use windows.

These were just on the first two pages of a google search for "computer forensics graduate school". You couldn't have possibly looked that hard.

I have CDs that have lasted 10 years with no errors. Obviously 5 years is not the maximum life. Perhaps the maximum EXPECTED life.
