If I went to someone's home and they had a Quad SLI setup running to play video games, I think I would stab them and blame GTA. I'm not saying it's not useful for scientific computing, hardcore designing, or driving some sort of crazy display exhibit but spending that kind of dough to play games is sorta asking for a punch in the face.

  4. Hey, let's jump to conclusions on Has Steve Jobs Lost His Magic? · · Score: 5, Insightful

The company can't come out with an awesome new toy every 3-6 months. Steve and Co. just had nothing to talk about, and anyways it's the WWDC. It's for developers and there were tons of new developer centric stuff Obj-C 2.0, XCode 3.0, a preview of Leopard (which I think the big things are still be held close to their chest, don't want to promise stuff like Vista and just have it trimmed every month). Wait til near Christmas, because you know there will be a new iPod or something for the masses to drool over.

  8. A few reasons on Why Is Free MUD Development Lagging? · · Score: 4, Insightful

One reason I think mud development is lagging, is namely that
muds in my experience attract young players and are ran by teenagers and college student. I rarely meet players over the age of 30. This leads to inexperienced coding and less bleeding edge technology. That could be part of the problem.

Also, muds are in competition with each other. We had short discussion about opening up the source to the mud I work on (The Northern Crossroads), and it was determined that if we opened up the source. We would lose our uniqueness among other muds. If everyone else used our features.

Another thing, they are just games. They aren't very important on the overall realm of things, why should we be devoting tons of time and energy in keeping something alive, when its not profitable or really useful in the end.

(Heh, not a very organized post)

They should have a form to submit it, but they should have volunteers do the fact checking on the items before it's accepted. Well maybe not fact checking, maybe just a glance over to make sure it's not just a bunch of jibberish. Then allow the community to do the fact checking and submit any errors. Sure this all would add to the mess, and make it more complicated, but if it is performed right we will get a high quality database as time increases for each entry.

1.6 million? Steve Jobs is doing an incredable job with a company that probably wouldn't be around today if it wasn't for his renewed CEOship. 1.6 million isn't a whole lot in terms of CEO salery, anyone know how much he makes at Pixar?

  12. Why? on Web Ads with Sound? · · Score: 1

Why do sites/advertisers do intrusive advertising like this in the first place?
Do they think the internet is a TV or something?

I for one like the text based ads on other sites more so than the picture based ones. Namely
because I can get information about the product/site w/o visiting it first, this sounds
counter productive to what ads try to do (generate hits to websites) but I normally go to websites
I wouldn't normally with a picture ad with a text based ad.
Maybe websites/advertisers should take a hint.

Arcade Controls.com - Information on building your own arcade controls for emulation and other hobbies.

Sex Pistols Pinball - This guy redid a old pinball machine into a Sex Pistols pinball machine, neat.

Well I agree hacking is a crime. I think it should be classified by different areas. Like people nosing around public computers shouldn't get 20 years in jail, but military computers, .gov sites, sure I can understand that. Selling information about companies, sure that's bad. But I don't think most hackers should get more time then some murders and other violent crime criminals. That is just silly. Virus writers on the other hand, we can just hang them.

Just my thoughts on the subject.

  21. A Good UI! on What Is Important In A User Interface? · · Score: 1

A Good UI Must have these things:

1 - Simplecity, It has to be easy to use. I don't want to read a 200 page manual, or try to figure out what 1 of 200 buttons and menus do!

2 - Customizable, I wanna be able to have the functions I use most right up front, in a menu, button, macro or something.

3 - A Good help system... I never read manuals, why bother hehehehe

These are the things I look for in a UI, but they are common sense.
