usb isn't really ment for data transfer. I don't know abou others but 100Mbit ethernet's work'n just fine.. and when you can find cards for $5 bucks (dlink 530TX), and make your own patch cables.. its hell of a lot cheaper than IEEE1394 (firewire, ilink).
Not only does this allow any college graduate to be able to converse intelegently about any subject, but it allows people the ability to change jobs in the future without going back to school.
Just because someone went to college, and recived a "rounded" education, doesn't mean that they are going to beable to have an intilient conversation with anyone. As for your other point.. I don't think I want someone building my house.. that holds a "well rounded" degree in theater.
I'm not seeing anything free here.. why is apple charging for a patch much needed to it's poorly written and feature crippled.0 version... personaly.. I thought of OS 10 as OS 0.10.. but.. I guess.. apple needs to gouge in order to make money..
I wonder if I can configure the startup "bong" on my iMac to softly wisper "w3 0wn j00"...
pay for burner
pay for cd-r
pay for bandwidth
pay for subscription to download music.
pay again to download same music after silver film gets scrached of of cr-r
pay for windows XP twice becuase it desided to crash, and had to reformat.
in order for RISC to make up for the lack of instructions. it has to execute more, becuase the processor know's less. as for x86, there are ton's of pre set instruction's, enabling it to process more important information. and thus performing faster.
you think they would have chose a middle grownd.
would be funny if the trailer was in windows media. its still funny that anyone running anything other than Mac or Windows still can't see the trailer. If they really knew anything about the antitrust they would use real media.
ahh, its hopeless the whole world is already brain washed... time to move to mars.
Take out the root.a (etc...) NS. then watch 99% of the population not know what to do!
Main sites would go down in min because their ttl's are set so low.. someone does a look up.. oops not cached anymore.. nowhere to get the authorative ns from.. no ip resolution..
this would stop the web dead in a matter of hours.. and since 99% of people don't use anything other than their AOL browser. gameover.
this PS2 just sold for over $10,000! big ones.. someone has money to burn.. watched it go too.. with 4 min to go it was selling for $860, hit refresh.. BAM.. over $10,000! I was in shock.. I thought no way that was right.. but it is!.. look at the bid history..

Alright.. here's the real deal.. as far as Concentric, now XO, does it.
Provisioning takes 35-90 Days. Why!. because the ILEC has to run a new loop.. why! because not until recently was a law passed so that Clec's could do line sharing, and thus a new loop must be run. Soon Covad/XO will be offering adsl line shared connections, then it will take about 10 days for an instilation. but for sdsl and idsl it will still be 35-90 days, unless you want to run the loop yourself.. then by all means.. go for it!
ADSL from XO (and as far as I know other places as well) is RATE ADDAPTIVE! meaning you sync up on the fly at whatever speed you can depending on distance and line conditions.
and so that means that you could go down to idsl speeds.
Why does dsl take so long to be fixed when it goes down? because the clec and test the line, find an open, tell the Ilec to fix it.. they go out and comeback and say that their was nothing wrong, obviously the open is still there, the Ilec just needs to do their job, so a vender meet must be scheduled between the Ilec and the clec, making the resolution time longer.. if you want reimbursement for the time your are down, call billing, the numbers on your bill. and besides.. scheduling dispatches that the End User has to be their to let the tech in for TAKES TIME no matter who you are. or what business you run.
lastly, problems that are actually on XO's end are fixed very rapidly and don't happen that often.. we're (concentric) known for having stable fast networks.
and Covad runs a very good business.. think about it.. its phone wire!.. not fiber! this stuff was put in back in the 16th century.. so don't complain.. and be happy you can get a dsl connection.. consider the alternatives.
and really.. think about it.. dsl is going to go down no matter who your with.. if you are completely crippled and losing money from you dsl line being down.. please get a T1, XO offers good prices and good networks!

here's something I found on a site that sums up everything I've been trying to say.. acept for the Scour thing... I just dont know why they can make such a big deal of Napster and ignore Scour.
by Kurt Nimmo, an independent observer Lars, The first news item I read this morning was about Metallica. Cnet News writes that Metallica has identified 335,435 Napster users who are sharing your music. In response, your lawyer will deliver a 60,000 page document of user information to Napster and demand that they block the offenders. I must admit, Lars, when I read this news item I had to chuckle. First, I seriously doubt you know the names of these users. More than likely, you have a very long list of IP addresses, which is different than a list of names and specific crimes. Second, I can't help but think that the reason you and your lawyer, Howard King, did this is for the publicity - to keep your name in the news and send a message to people who have the audacity to love and share your music outside of the sanctioned distribution channels. Lars, I believe you and Metallica - to say nothing of the RIAA and the music industry - are suffering under a delusion. The act of sharing music files with other Metallica music lovers is not theft. It does not deny you and your record company income. If anything, it multiples your income. In the past, Metallica has effectively used supposedly unsanctioned recordings - commonly known as bootlegs - to promote the band and gain more visibility in a highly competitive industry. Now that your standing in the music industry is established, do you want to recall those bootleg recordings? Would you sue Metallica fans for distributing them? Napster is far less of a threat to you than the above mentioned bootlegged CDs or LPs. In fact, since you released the material yourself, as a promotion tactic, these recordings cannot even be considered bootlegs. Regardless, they exist in the physical world - there are a fixed number of them, and they are probably distributed widely across your fan base. It is the very scarcity of these recordings that make them more of a threat to you than any number of files shared by Napster. In a classic economic sense, MP3 files are nearly worthless because they can be copied indefinitely and do not occupy space in the physical world. The free distribution of these files - monetarily worthless yet culturally and intellectually valuable - does not threaten the existing economic structure that has served you and Metallica so handsomely over the years. If you were to ask Napster users if they would rather have Master of Puppets on CD or MP3, I bet the vast majority of them would choose the former. In fact, I bet most Metallica fans who now download your music via Napster in the MP3 format already own your CDs. If not, and they find a song on Napster they like, chances are they will eventually buy the CD. I am not sure you fully understand the difference between theft of tangible CDs and the copying of virtual music in the MP3 format. It is my guess that you were invited by music industry executives and lawyers to see Napster in action. More than likely they told you that copying is not only a form of theft that denies you income, but also takes control of the music away from you and Metallica. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Lars, hunting down people who share music files will not stop music copying. The lawyers and courts may throw a handful of people in prison - convicted of violating the RICO statutes, which were designed to go after drug dealers and gun smugglers, not music fans sharing files. When the smoke clears, people will continue to share music files. It is my prediction that many of them will no longer be Metallica fans. They will find your tactics ugly and unfair and may decide to boycott your products. In the long run, Metallica's response to music file sharing will cost you support and money. Fans don't like to be compared to drug dealers and money launderers. You alienate them at your peril. Sincerely, Kurt Nimmo
thank you Kurt! there is intelligent life out there!
more info can be found in my other post here. Why are they being excluded? I would consider scour more worng than napster. becuase you can donwload copywrited music strate from there servers. I downloaded a creed song (I own the cd, that is leagle) at 50k/sec.. faster than most people upload on napster. Nobody seems to get it... downloading mp3's can be leagle. if you own it (on cd, on tape, on 8track, on record, or even paid for liquid audio) you may download it on mp3. grr.. nobody understands.. lawsuits are not the answer... that like sueing icq because you downloaded a program/mp3..etc.. sent to you buy a buddy or whoever thought there serveses.. think what you want... napster has done nothing wrong!
For me its actually faster to download mp3's than to encode them.. and easyer too be cause this way I don't have to pay for a mp3 encoder. the origonal law on mp3's was that you could download the song if you owned it. most of the thinking behind mp3's was to not have to keep swaping cd's I own a gig's worth of leagle mp3's I own all of them.. and if maybe I want to get a cd I download a song from the albm to see what its like. if I like it I'll go buy it.. if I don't I won't thats the power of the internet. don't kill the messanger just because he lost his shipment to raiders!
Nobody has realy said much about dual deck tape recorder or cd burners. whats the difference wither its a pysical copy or digital? same deal with the DVD... who's going to download a 4 Gig movie? even with cable/dsl. not many people have the hdd space for that either! people have been getting mp3's off of ftp's for years. long before napster! What about Scour? How come they haven't gotten any flack on this topic?
In my opinion I really don't think programs like napster has any real effect on the music community. So what if Dr. Dre can't make the millions he's used too! $15-20 for a cd is outragous! all the more tape's ever cost was $10! if anyone is ripping someone off... its the record company's! you may email your thoughts to bofslime@hotmail.com -thankyou Brian
