Look, until we stop complaining by saying we are sick and tired of this or that, and actually start stabbing these motherfuckers, the entire discussion is moot.
Because despite Warcraft 2 being my all time favorite game, the warcraft story line is half assed bullshit, a weak DnD wannabe.
If it has to be Blizzard related, I'd much rather see a Blackthorne inspired movie, or even Starcraft. (Note: Diablo's story line was too generic despite the initially fun 5 hours it took to beat the game the first time thru).
Wait so are you pretending to speak from the mouth of Google for stealing 37sigs 'idea' or from the mouth of 37sig for stealing the most generic chat interface 'idea' reworked into another language from everyone else?
I'd really like to know, b/c a developer at Google probably looked at various web chat, IM chat, and IRC interfaces going back to 1997 for inspiration for huddlechat. The idea that anyone can steal that shoddy, generic interface from 37sigs two bit chat app is fucking ridiculous. Or maybe its just me and the rest of the internets that think this.
But really, the 'casual' user product line is crap, one cand just use paintshop or gimp and get a stronger feature set. The bloatware effect is from gross mismanagement of resources, implementing transparency of the gui and generally using excessive 'frills' on the interface itself that affect the memory and cpu usage. I have certainly run CS2 on a 'powerhouse' machine and it feels extremely sluggish compared to PS6 on an old p2-400/512ram. Its all in the feel, and since I don't rely on many of the 'advanced' features of the later versions of photoshop, I'm less biased towards its feature set and more likely to care about the 'feel' it provides performance wise.
Also keep in mind, I can get down and dirty with PS as needed, but I tend to farm out design work to the more experienced folks that work with it day to day so I can get back to the network admin tasks instead.
Its about the actual feel you get from using it, and the latest versions of photoshop have lost their reliable feel (and really, running it on a quad core intel with loads of ram SHOULD let it 'feel' like a champ that price tag claims it is).
Maybe its just me but after Photoshop 6, all they did was add bloat with minimal overall improvement (with a few notable exceptions) as far as a 'light' user is concerned. After PS6, performance went straight to hell and you needed much more computing power for the same simple tasks.
Note: I'm speaking just from the view of a very 'occasional' user, not a professional graphics designer or the like.
I think you miss the obvious difference. Run a version of Ubuntu LTS and your updates tend to be reliable and not much differing than Windows XP updates with the occasional snafu. 'Upgrading' by a full version number in Ubuntu can be likegoing from Windows 2000 to XP. Microsoft simply does not have the fast and lose ability or desire to regularly implement full version updates, too much management involved and too much product lifecycle to wring out a few more profits from.
Maybe you shouldn't be posting on slashdot then...
What kind of geek are you if you can't get around whatever GPO is in place to lock you out from something as simple as noscript or ff? There's always a way. (Try booting safe mode and using blank admin passwd, thats the first place to start;))
Of course, if you are on Linux managed workstations instead of Windows, with a competent admin running the show, then you are probably screwed.
Thats what I was looking for comments on, the general is a nub, wtf is with 'ygtbkm', its like cell phone text fwappery trying to masquerade as hax0r speak. The response would've receive more respect if it was OMGAZ WTF ROFLCOPTERLOLLERCATZ!!!11!! or its ilk.
More than that, this is not news at ALL. All of the malware has been using FTP for years, its the 'other' distribution methods that seem to be showing up a little more often, but FTP traffic is a lot less suspicious on very large LAN.
Ok I see where we crossed up and perhaps I was a bit harsh, but I'm still on it like white on rice. Its normal for attorneys with limited technical knowledge to seek an clarification with the other party, in this case Dynadot, that what they are proposing is technically feasible. The 'agreement' between the two was most likely along the lines of 'is the wording of this proposed order feasible and sensible in terms of disabling the wikileaks.org domain?' and 'yes'. Its all about covering your ass, and Dynadot was looking at a goddamn JUGGERNAUT of an opponent in terms of money to throw at legal wrangling, its not suprise they tried to play nice, hell they probably even realized that all this would do is further fan the flames on the internets, but they had to play nice with the bank or take a chance with their existence. Sounds like a case of them continuing to profit in the normal course of business or letting lawyers take all their profits to battle this thing out. What would you do if you had a profitable business and were put on the spot like this?
Don't get me wrong, I'm ALL for crazy conspiracy theories, I just tend to have too much sense and patience to determine the underlying reasons prior to frothing at the mouth. (HA! Ok not really, I do post on slashdot after all, but some things catch my eye enough to make me think for a few seconds)
Actually that just shows you spent a lot of time clicking the mouse and yelling "WHY THE FUCK ISNT IT WORKING?" instead of typing on the keyboard and yelling "WHY THE FUCK ISNT IT WORKING?".
Sorry but if you don't get it, you just don't get it. The console is fundamentally flawed by inconsistent performance, latency, INCOMPATIBILITY, and simply being a moving target. As it stands, you need to have a Wii, Xbox360 and PS3 to stay on top of all of the latest console gaming. After you shelled out all that money for a Gamecube, Xbox, and PS2. So after you've shelled out ~$1200 for that, I'll still be playing on my ~$600 moderately fast PC at the same resolutions as that $600 720p HD tv, albeit with better video latency. You console kids, ESPECIALLY the ones old enough to know about Last Ninja 2, really need to get off the couch in the basement more often.
Once upon a time consoles had something going for them, the lower cost for the system itself, the latest batch of consoles (and even the initial PS2 and Xbox) have thoroughly decimated that one real advantage.
Additional stuff: not all of us drink or even like Mountain Dew (exception is made for the Pitch Black 2 version that was out for a very short time), and most of us didn't really care about Daikatana, wary of the bullshit hype and too busy waiting for the next Duke Nukem. And most of us liked Halo for about 3 seconds until we determined the XBox controller was shite compared to the response time of a $8.00 GE brand roller mouse from Walmart, and if we touch the PC version of Halo we laugh b/c its Serious Sam with fancier graphics but less fun. (Btw, BF1942 and espcially BF:Vietnam with helicopters were both leaps and bounds past anything Halo 1/2/3 could hope to dish out).
Most of the cat owners I've known tend to be at least a bit fucking nutty and have several meds to help in the bathroom cabinet. Dog owners, not so much. I have about 5 examples making the point on each side within 100 feet of me right now. Cat people are mental.
Plus cats steal your soul while you sleep, everyone knows that.;)
Actually my line of thinking was more like 'who the FUCK let all this happen' and 'where is my baseball bat' and then 'fuck i forgot to set my clock ahead an hour, i better go to bed and get up and drink a glass of water and head to work in the morning.'
According to WHAT reports? That makes absolutely no sense, they could run into other legal issues if they were to make such a deal outside of a court order, and its just stupid business to do so. A court order is a court order, nothing they can do about it.
Backup your bullshit or don't waste time claiming it in the first place.
I've seen phones of all sorts crash, you obviously haven't used many phones. Symbian will crash and burn at least as well as Windows Mobile when running nonstandard apps. But that comes with the territory of Java and mass availability of custom third party apps.
We had a local renegade bbs with uucp that was hosted in some guys apartment above an isp. Saved a lot of money on long distance, and also saved me from going a similar route and violating federal laws to get free long distance;)
I remember getting my parents to let me stay overnight at the office under the guise of 'fixing the computers' while I logged onto AOL all night and downloaded some games from a mass warez mail I somehow got thrown on, back when we had the 9.95 AOL + hourly overage. Parents weren't too happy about that month's service.
Also, dialing up to Software Creations BBS in Boston to download every Apogee, EpicMegagames, and iD shareware title didn't come across to well on the long distance bill.
Let's take it back even further in the vg realm and give a little props to the original graphical mmorpg, NWN on AOL. Ah, the early to mid 90s, the good ol' days of online gaming.
Ya know, if Red Baron could run on INN and have so many people playing at once, how much of a stretch are today's online games, really.
Look, until we stop complaining by saying we are sick and tired of this or that, and actually start stabbing these motherfuckers, the entire discussion is moot.
Cheers.

You, sir, are an idiot.
;)
Can't let the people down, now can we.

Ouch, my manhood! ;)

Ok, who the hell let Tom Cruise near an Ubuntu live cd?

I was kidding, you crazy kids.

Or maybe the midgets modded you under the suspicion that you are actually a Troll and want to eat them?

I wonder what targeted ads would look like for 4chan/7chan /b/ 'ers...

Check out the research done on groklaw, the additional 95 million dollar loan might not even really be available. HA.
Yeah, what you said.
