I "switched" to digg for about 2 months before it got excessively annoying. Ever since the interface change I've been 99% slashdot for comments, no more wasting my time on digg comments system, their useless trolls are nowhere near as entertaining as/.'s.
I love how yum is still struggling to improve its image vs. apt. Thats what they get for reinventing the wheel. Why was yum needed instead of really moving to apt? What capability couldnt possibly be added to apt? Is is just Redhat arrogance determined to use their rpm format (which never worked right in the early days, while.deb and apt worked fairly reliably).
Patents are not part of a "free market system", and like Copyright (big C not little c), they are a stain on a free and democratic society. Additionally, Democracy and Freedom are more important than capitalist 'free markets', so I guess the entire point is moot.
Bullshit, all it does is throw more money to the established music 'network' of artists and labels. What gives any of the parties involved the right to determine who is 'acceptable' for pay-per-performance play over any other artist.
Tom Waits will get money for play, as will the local band, why should he get paid and the local small time guys get shit on?
Copyright is a total fubar, and as a result of the way its been handled there is NO fair way to deal with ANY of this mess, the less it can be changed without complete overhaul, the better. 14 years + 1 7 year extension is more than enough.
Why does anyone need to get paid for what amounts to a performance replay/rerun? Live shows and direct artist to fan sales is where 'real' money should be, not in the hands of a group of rich jerk offs who are desperately trying to hold on to their media empires despite the revolution.
So you want to pay the very successful artists and not pay that poor, not-yet-successful artists? Thats not exactly fair and NOT supportive of the very existance of copyright (to promote arts and sciences). As soon as that scheme goes into play, copyright is no longer within the frame laid out by the Constitution
Please stay away from politics and law, you have failed.
There were already investigations into "toture" before 2005, but I guess your PSYOPS doesn't account for that or want it to be exposed. Perhaps there was no 'Congressional' investigation ongoing, but that has nothing to do with the fact that it was obvious evidence and was destroyed specifically because it would be used as THE damning evidence in any Congressional Impeachment / Investigation or even a UN based investigation.
It was destruction of evidence, just because it was a 'classified' set of tapes, it was still evidence that could have been used by numerous groups and individuals in numerous cases against the government before during and after 2005. Hiding the evidence and destroying evidence are both illegal.
Additionally, a lot of schools with little or no IT support will use the Content Advisor in IE to block sites, FF gets around that.
A smart kid a.) doesn't get caught and b.) just changes a registry key to kill the content advisor.
This whole thread is moot since apparently this/some other punk kid changed the detention letter to appear like it was for firefox. Then again, the Principal could be lying to try and save face.
The companies in question became extensions of the government when they accepted government contracts and/or began providing the government with warrantless information.
Additionally, Telcos tend to be government sanctioned entities with 'right of way' access granted in exchange for services provided, why should they get any special treatment and be above the laws? They are doing the work that a government agency could/should be doing and are being allowed to make a profit on it. They are essentially an extension of a government service by their very existence.
So, sorry to say it, but if telco's freely give information on citizens for any purpose without a warrant, the law has been broken.
The guy that responded in lieu of me was spot on with what I meant. I drive a Toyota these days and there was no option for an ash tray that I noticed when I was researching cars to buy. Not that such a thing matters and should have any impact on buying a car (but bet your ass you could get one on a Bentley or some other overprice monstrosity).
I think you aren't connecting what is needed for the existence of a 'free market' in modern times. The world started as a 'free market' in which 'market forces' almost always ended up being the guys that can bash the other guys heads in the best and take all their stuff. Thats the very essence of a free market. With such a case, where are the limits on power and monopolization of services? Thats when you need a government, for regulation, like it or not. Governments throughout known history have relied on taxes to exist (I will agree its one big protection racket scam, but we don't have the technology to get past the need for taxes et al just yet.). Using the US as our example, without the government, there is no standard time zone, no 'standard' units of measurement, no firemen to put out fires, no PUBLIC EDUCATION (this is perhaps the most important of anything), no building standards, no standards for building roads, no public transportation systems, so on and so forth.
There is a direct correlation between this new age 'free market' bullshit and the need for a functional government to police it and keep it 'free'. Then again, I'm talking free as in speech, not free as in beer. For the free as in beer market you would need a communist/utopian form of government.
Ron Paul and the anonymous Libertarians strike again!
A truly free market economy only lets a "country" which is run by "government" (be it of the people or not), flourish if those taking part in it pay all of their taxes. But taxes are contrary to a lib view of freedom. All of the arguments end up in one big clusterfuck, the only way you can have an free economy is to find the middle ground where regulation balances excess of greed based capitalist economics, as we currently have (in theory). Lobbyists are an issue because we allow corporations to exist in the first place, which is essentially a way to isolate the rich from their business practices.
If you want to call the myspace of IRC a 'virutal world', thats your problem.
"Traditionally" it was until the King of your country was overthrown and killed, then you changed the rules as needed.
Copyright should be 14 years + 1 extension as the US Constitution specified, and, if ANYTHING, should be shortened from that
