This would be great for GNO/ME, which is a UNIX for the Apple IIGS. There's also a TCP/IP implementation for GNO, called GS/TCP, which has httpd, ftp, ftpd, telnet, telnetd, screen, irc, etc.

I'm surprised there hasn't been more mention of the Samsung I300 - what seems to be the best Palm/phone combo currently available (with color to boot). As was mentioned above, here is the link to the Sprint I300 page (Verizon coverage is coming soon). Downsides include the traditionally short battery life (although 5hrs with the extended battery isn't terrible), no expandibility slot, and a steep $500 price tag. However, it does weigh only 6oz, which doesn't seem bad for a color Palm. If they would have added a CompactFlash slot and MP3 player, this would have been a killer device.
The best and cheapest solution would be to go to your local hardware store, and get a door (white looks great in my room). Then, place a filing cabinet under each end (or replace one filing cabinet with wood planks), and voila! Huge table that can support lots of equipment.
My setup is: a stereo receiver in the middle, flanked by two monitors on each side. Looks great, and has excellent depth to boot.
Just be careful not to spill anything on an unfinished wood door. Also, be sure you find a strong enough door to handle the weight.
Why didn't they just do what the Ironman team did?

The Ironman crew set up a camera at the finish line, and then just streamed it using RealPlayer... seems like that would take much less computational resources than what these guys did, although it wouldn't be as personal.
Of course, we'd all be derelict if Apple's DVD burning solution wasn't mentioned. It can burn DVDs after encoding (done in software, it takes 2x the length of the material), which can then be played in almost all normal set-top DVD players. Very cool!
The show needs something truly creative and off-kilter, like a Kirk vs. Picard vs. Janeway rumble, add some rocket launchers, a sniper rifle, and season to taste.
Imagine the ratings a controversial Trek would bring... How about a rogue crew with base Ferengi money-lust? Escaping the Federation, working for the highest bidder, double-crossing the Borg ("Sure, we'll deliver species 4459 *psha*"), stealing a few Vulcan ships...
One thing I keep learning as I get older, there are a lot of idiots with degrees out there, [snip]

True, although you're comparing two different aptitudes... the theoretical realm and the practical realm. Historically, the owners of the most brilliant theoretical minds have had quite some difficulty applying these wonderful ideas.
This does bring up the always intriguing argument about what actually defines intelligence. Currently, one of my favorite definitions is "The ability to relate two unrelated thoughts/items/etc.".
I was curious as to what the original version of the rpm being updated was (and what surrounding versions were), so I added this small patch to upgrade, the script that updates all the rpms on your system (which is at ftp://ftp.linuxppc.com/linuxppc-halloween/install/ updates/upgrade):

CS Lewis once said that if a childrens story can't be enjoyed by an adult, it's not a good childrens story.
Check out his excellent Narnia series sometime (starting with The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe).
It was on early Macintoshes, and even on the Apple IIGS, imo one of the best personal computers ever made. I'm using a now-free UNIX variant called GNO/ME with Derek Tauberts GS/TCP (unreleased) to serve web pages (currently down, I'm moving to CA).
Since the iMac now apparently has enough people using it to warrant a FreeBSD port, does this mean {the FreeBSD team, someone else} will help work on gcc optimization? The PPC is known to be one of the worst targets, right up there with Alpha.

Not too bad, eh?
Has anyone tried mounting the iPod in Linux? It should just work, eh?

Did you guys hear, NASA is sending a bunch of cows into space? They're calling it the herd shot around the world.

One of the worst cases of this was the "accidental introduction of an American louse called Phylloxera", which wiped out 2.5 million acres of French vineyards.

By the way, both the iMac and the iCube from Apple don't have a fan.

Hilarious, and a MST3K quote to boot! Manos, the Hands of Fate ... I can't believe I sat through that.
But wouldn't you agree that the acceleration of research is greatly increasing? It seems as if the pace of innovation has sped up dramatically.

Sounds like someone is going to have to setup a slash code site just for the OSX and their security issues.
Like this?
Bush would have 3x his lead had the recounts continued - read about it in today's CNN article.
