The fine in this case was around 25% of the profit they made that year. Anyone would rather take the IP licensing deal than hand over that kind of money.

  2. If by your facetious comment you think that a 30% hit on the bottom line is just waved away and doesn't have an effect on the company or a market then you're a complete moron.

Intel's net profit was $4.3bn the year of the fine.

Yeah actually good job EU. At least some government knows how to issue a fine that is relevant.

That's an interesting and hurtful statement. My grandpa was a "Nazi". He wore a Nazi uniform. It was the only employment he got. Glorified desk clerk overseeing construction activities undertaken during the war. He never hurt a fly and I will be you is a much better man than you'll ever be.

  5. Are you guys so new to the Net that you don't know this?

Nope. We're just aware Facebook has a feature called groups and privacy controls that can be set on that scale to not need to do garbage like playing with multiple accounts.

Also "everyone" has one account which they use to mix work, friends and their drunk social lives in ways that they will regret in their future. Very few people have more. Between the paranoid approach, the techie approach, and the braindead approach it is a safe bet to assume the vast majority of people will opt for the latter.

It's amazing that when using a questionnaire you can actually ask more than one question at a time, such as measuring retention and then asking about enjoyment.

Many apps which spam notifications also kindly provide fine grained control of them. E.g. I am not in the slightest interested in getting a notification of who's birthday it is from Facebook. 22. Congress can no more grant extra powers to the President than they can remove powers from the President. Any law passed by Congress surrendering their powers to the President is unconstitutional on it's face. Amending the constitution is the only way to do that.

Except they did nothing of the sort. They enacted a law that said the specific implementation of the policy to follow that law was up to the executive. That doesn't grant Obama any more powers than it does to any other government department that is asked to come up with policy. What Obama's office made was not a law.

But you don't need to believe me, you can read up the 5th Circuit's conclusion who ruled on the constitutional validity of what happened. (see links spread throughout responses to this story).

Honestly, that seems a silly nit to pick.

A lot of things are silly to nit-pick if you know what they mean. For most people 3 vertical dots means absolutely nothing. Sure a smartphone veteran who has suffered though this adaptation to UIs know *now* what it means, but that also wasn't always the case. When did it stop being a wheel of a cog, and what did that represent as well? Speaking of I'm currently staring at what looks like a tombstone with a + symbol in it. Sure I know because I've used this god-awful software befre that this opens a new tab but what a dumb way of putting it. There's an arrow pointing to a drive, not sure if that will save the file or what. Last time I checked it was an icon which looked like a sheet of paper with an arrow pointing down. Maybe that means to throw it all on the ground in hopelessness.

UI design is hard. We have an entire generation growing up now who have no idea what the save icon represents despite it being very intuitive to a 80s/90s kid. You only call it nitpicking because *you* understand. That doesn't mean it's completely counter-intuitive to someone who's never used software before, completely unlike the word "menu".
