To be fair they did basically completely redesign sleep mode for the Surface line, and Microsoft isn't known for getting things right the first time, or the third time, and generally known quite well for fucking up the second and fourth completely.:)
Which version? Windows 10 has apparently had a few major updates to it already. You can tell this quite easily with the version numbers:
Windows 10 initial release 10.0 Windows 10 fall update 10.0 Windows 10 creators update 10.0
But don't worry Microsoft has come up with a better way of identifying them.
Windows 10 initial release is listed as version 1507. You can identify this quite intuitively by going to system information and seeing 10.0.10240 makes perfect sense. Currently I'm running Windows 10 "whatever the fuck we're up to" update which in the "current branch" (whatever the fuck that is) and is listed as version 1703 on Microsoft's release information. I know this intuitively because my system information says it is version 10.0.15063.
I don't understand why people are so confused about this. It's simple.
Somebody, somewhere wanted to see them, which is why Hollywood keeps making them.
Well that's rare. Someone on Slashdot actually used thought and evidence in a discussion on the quality of movies. You sir are right on point. Everyone that is saying "movies suck, cinemas suck, Hollywood is dying, no one goes to the movies" is ignoring the fact that each of these are fundamentally businesses and exist primarily to make money, and usually they actually do make money hand over fist.
Then when someone does have an original thought, or someone does adapt something that isn't mainstream it fails in the box office. What this really points to is a massive dichotomy between Slashdot readership and the real world.
Fortunately sane browsers use both, but the reality is both convey different information. You don't need to memorise every icon, but for those you do instinctively know it makes it far more efficient than scanning for a word.
You're a reader? Good for you. The vast majority of people are not. The vast majority of websites don't even have meaningful text. Look up right now, if it weren't for the icon could you tell the difference between 3 open Slashdot tabs and 3 open CNN tabs? Didn't think so. Hell right now I have 3 tabs with "Military" in the title. Reading across my tab list would do crap all even if I was inclined to search like that.
yet he CONTINUES to use said piece of shit proprietary browser all this time? Really? If you're not happy with the product, STOP using it.
Some people are interested in software beyond a single infuriating feature and would like to see it fixed rather than using an alternative that has far more infuriating features.
If I stopped doing something everytime I found one thing I didn't like I'd be living on a farm somewhere without electricity.
First world problems are precisely what keeps humans from advancing. Combined with the continual degradation of the user experience and software getting worse to use efficiently, maybe it's time we actually focused on some of these "first world problems".
After all, my computer not working here in the first world is the reason our new construction project in the 3rd world may get delayed.
Chrome... doesn't. I've seen it get to the point that it doesn't even have room to show the Favicons yet.
Both Apple and Google need to look at Firefox here. Tabs are not perfect, but Firefox is doing it the right way.
That's a matter of opinion. Firefox will degrade to the state where you don't know what you have open or how many tabs are open due to scrolling long before Chrome becomes unusable. I don't see that as any kind of improvement. As for having so many Chrome tabs open that you can't even see the favicon, have you considered opening a new window or using the bookmarks feature sometime? I mean it's not like you will get to all those tabs and have current content anyway, and heck half of them probably don't even have loaded content.
Firefox could learn from Chrome. Chrome is doing it the right way/my_opinion
That's great but have you seen how accurate it is in Europe? No? Well that's because GPS doesn't traverse the network there. It's great that it works in America but like many things this isn't about improving America it's about making things not USA specific.
In order for it to not be countless it needs to be bounded by time and events. Give us the number of emergencies you expect to occur and the time frame you want the number in then we can satisfy your desire for accurate numbers.
Platooning is nothing new. Every major truck manufacturer has worked on this to the point of proving the technology in a massive cross EU demonstration last year.
I'm quite disappointed to see this announcement as it displays a lack of originality, lack of striving for something amazing and above all is now yet another company doing their own thing because the truck manufacturers didn't work together on this.
translates to when our lobbyists wrote the COPPA law for the lawmakers
Not at all. It's like saying that a jaywalking law must have been written by the car lobby because it didn't stop someone from running me over.
COPPA applies to how you protect the information of a minor. It means you have a privacy policy, and it also means you got parental consent (which you must have because children aren't allowed to download apps from Google Play so consent is explicit).
Not only will it most likely turn out that there's no breach, but quite likely all the COPPA stuff is explicitly in place for these few apps.
Japanese is weak. Calling people animal names is worthless. The Dutch will call you some kind of disease. I stepped infront of a bicycle one day and I heard a trailing of what translated to "cancer jew".
Also I didn't mean Croatian, I meant Serbian. And if you want to hear what it sounds like just tell a Serbian that Serbian and Croatian are the same thing ^_^
Just get creative. There's always an ability to shock. If Fuck and Shit aren't good enough for you, start translating some Croatian profanities into English. English is really soft when it comes to swear words.
You can cut your teeth all you want. The problem isn't the size constraints, it's the functionality constraints. I too do a lot of work on very constrained microcontrollers, but that doesn't mean I don't reach for a generic video library when I am working with a device that has a touchscreen interface.
If I re-invent the wheel every time I want to build a car all I'll ever end up with is a bunch of crappy wheels.
I did wonder about the difference between iOS and Android on this. We only recently ran an article talking about Facebook being 388MB. On my Android phone it weighs in at 162MB, and 10 seconds of Google "research" showed that universally apps are far larger on iOS.

This site has a self awareness problem.

better options exist for web browsing on OSX (Chrome, Opera, FF, et al).
Ever wonder why better options exist? Could it be death by a thousand usability inconveniences?

Or one could not go to the effort and expense for a simple PR statement and use the word countless.
What is wrong in your country that you live in such a perpetual state of fear.

You don't report incidents via 911. And you don't report emergencies anonymously.
Yeah very new. Google only added it to android in 2016. Expect Apple to wait until iOS 11 before they copy it.
Yep I heard that one before. It took a while before I convinced my colleague to translate it for me.

Heck, a recent poll showed only 25% of America trusted our president but 33% approved of him.
That is strange. Typically trust numbers are closer to 0% and approval numbers closer to 50% for many politicians.
But I think you don't know what those words mean. I approve a lot of things that many politicians around the world do, yet I trust zero of them.
Japanese is weak. Calling people animal names is worthless. The Dutch will call you some kind of disease. I stepped infront of a bicycle one day and I heard a trailing of what translated to "cancer jew".

*Sigh* north western Europe.
And honest answer, yes it actually is, especially in winter though occasionally in summer too.
Just get creative. There's always an ability to shock. If Fuck and Shit aren't good enough for you, start translating some Croatian profanities into English. English is really soft when it comes to swear words.
If I'm tired at lunch - I can't take a 20 minute nap because everyone will see me and label me lazy.
We have napping rooms in our office for that.
I can't have a private phone call because I have someone 3 feet away from me.
We have private rooms with a phone in them for that.
I can't log onto slashdot because I'll quickly get a reputation as someone who doesn't work and just surfs the web.
My boss doesn't grade me on rumours of idiots.

Before anyone doesn't dismiss this outright please read up on how a crystal radio works, and then read up on how a mobile phone works.
