Not that long ago, back in the 90's I worked on a project for Macintosh (not called MacOS yet) that had a minimal compile time of 12 minutes on the highest end Mac at the time (a Quadra something or other loaded to the max with RAM) and that's assuming you change one or two source files and not touch headers. Touching a header file forced a full compile and that would be 45 minutes. We ended up scheduling our compiles so that we could all play fooseball or something. Coming back to a failed compile sucked hard.
You could stick an old machine with 2 NICs running Linux in the middle running a simple proxy written in nodeJS. Since you've written the proxy you can write all the rules you want. With node it would be incredibly easy.
It's fun but not really all the useful. I'm sure whatever Microsoft does specifically for the iPad will be much better plus this gets people used to MS Office on the iPad and kinda sets up the market for the real stuff coming up. So MS is probably just letting it happen and watching intently.
Because we Americans are lazy and under educated and ignorant and God says we're always right so fuck everyone else and grab a beer and watch TV and shut the fuck up, you hippy liberal.
We use a first generation Mac Mini in my office to do nightly builds of both our MacOS and Windows software. The windows builds run on VM Ware. Its not uncommon for the build machine to be running 100% CPU for hours at a time. It hasn't been rebooted in months. We've been doing this with the same machine for over three years. Its wonderful. Never had a problem...
Why is it so important for this person to advertise, in a gaming context, that they are gay / lesbian? What does that that have to do with anything? These people give every other gay man or woman a bad name. Homosexuality makes some people uncomfortable and if there's no really good reason, why persist? There is no good reason what so ever to make it a point to let people know who you like to have sex with on XBox Live.
BTW. I'm gay so don't go calling me a homophobe.

You RTFA.
Most Israelis speak English, especially if they are college educated. They could have just sent the letter in English.
OK this story is sensationalist BS. Maybe the summary should have stated that he USED IT FOR SEVEN MONTHS and GAVE IT OUT TO FRIENDS!? Come on, only when he gets caught does he say he was going to share his results. Yeah, that's like embezzling and then saying you were going to give all the money back when you get caught.
Developers now have to support IE5, 6 and 7. There's more work to do. So how does your argument apply? Standards are what the market demands, not what developers do. IE still owns the market and its the de facto standard, like it or not. Just because some academics came up with a "standard" doesn't mean there's a law that says that everyone needs to follow it. They should be called "suggestions".
Microsoft has just sent out a big "FUCK YOU" to all of its developers. Vista, IE7 and Windows Mobile 5 all introduced changes and additions that break previous software and make it hard to port that software. Gone are the days of backwards compatability. Its as if there's a whole new generation of people at Microsoft who don't give a shit.
IMHO the only thing Commodore gave to the industry was a bunch of kids who's parents could only afford a Commodore Vic or 64 and could progam assembly and squeze perfromance from a wickedly slow disk drive.
There's nothing innovative about their hardware or software.
If you're there for the sole intention of grinding it out and making money on the fish you encounter it will effect you negatively. For players who are there to play a game of skill for fun it sucks when a hope and a wish player catches their 5% draw on the river knocking out the good players. Same BS as what happened at the last 4 or 5 years at WSOP. The idiots out there make it suck for the real players. "Players" not "Gamblers".
This doesn't really matter all that much. It means that US banks and credit card companies can't process the transactions. Companies like Firepay are off shore banks that can accept lawful deposits from US banks and then in turn handle gambling related transactions.
The law doesn't impose any penalties to gamblers so there's nothing illegal about taking any winnings by using the offshore banks to funnel those winnings back to a US account.
The problem is it's just harder now for the average player to make a deposit. I think in the long run this will be better for the above average players by keeping the degenerate gamblers out.
I use Norton Ghost and an external USB drive. It backs up every little thing and puts my system right back to where it was at the time of backup, even if I have to replace the hard drive, or even the PC. It saved my ass and everyone at my company's ass multiple times. I'm still running the same "image" that I created on a PII in 1998. I never ever had to do a reinstall of everything.
Janet Lawless is nothing more than a sleazy sales bitch. I doubt that her tactics are institutionalized at Microsoft. I'd bet that if this was followed up on we'd find that Miss Lawless is now unemployed. We all know that many (not all) IT sales people are scum and most are stupid too and are no better than used car sales people.

Why not just find some disadvantaged kid and give it to him/her?

Dude, Get over yourself.

I guess the dipshit journalists didn't realize that most Dutch speak English better than Americans or The British.
Hey Wait! I smoked lots of weed in high school and I... Uh what were we talking about?

Just write your stuff with DHTML and JavaScript for Safari. Duh?
And who's the authority? A group of academics who've never developed commercial software in their lives? I cede no authority to them.

They forgot the rumor that's been around since the Apple I:
Apple is going out of business.
Let s slight drip drip of water run from all the faucets in the house. Running water is less likely to freeze.

My iPod likes Slayer and Marilyn Manson. I guess its posessed.

They forgot the most important one, the one that's screwed the most people by far.
