  1. Stop funding them.. on Lawrence Lessig Criticizes Proposed 140-Year Copyright Protections (techcrunch.com) · · Score: 4, Funny

    he answer is simple.

STOP consuming copyrighted works. STOP going to movies, STOP steaming music, STOP going to concerts, STOP the support of these 'artists'.

That is, I am afraid, the only solution at this point.
The social contract of copyright has been violated so completely that it should now be seen as void, however as the force of state will still uphold it,
the only other choice is to avoid it altogether. Violate as you want and at your own risk, but stop giving money to these companies.

Society does not need THESE 'arts', they are not contributing.

    Quite right.

Nuclear power works wonderfully for (navy scale) boats (and submarines), via electricity often.

Not so well for aircraft actually. The Americans tried and failed, the Russians tried and 'succeeded' if you dont count the fact that most of the aircrew died of radiation poisoning.

Oh, you were talking about little private craft? why? do you have no grasp of context?

    really? REALLY?

So, perhaps you would like to tell us about these solar panels that produce enough power to power 2 cars.
Imagine if you will a standard Tesla 85kWh battery.
Charging it at (lets be reasonably generous) 80% total system efficiency (by the time you collect, store (car is not always home) convert voltages, and charge cells.
so, we need around 106 kWh, lets just call it 100kWh to be nice.
but you said 2 cars, s 200kWh for a charge up.
now, that will give you a fair bit of range, lets say you need a full charge each week.
so 200kWh/7, 28kWh a day needs to be produced (rounding to be nice again)
even with tracked arrays, you can collect for a maximum of around 8 hours a day with any efficiency, so you will need 3.5Kw of solar source over your 8 hours.
Doesnt sound too bad does it? not figure in practical Solar load factor, around 20%, so you need 17.5 Kw of solar cells.
At $4/W install cost thats quite a nice $70k solar setup you must have (ignoring trackers to get even close to this efficiency)
Assuming you also want to power your home, I figure you must have dropped well over $100k on it.

Mind you, as you obviously have a lot of spare area, I assume you can afford it - must be nice to lord it over the people in the real world.
Quite lucky those solar panels had zero carbon footprint, and didnt cause any other nasty pollution issues (heavy metals) in their production, shipping, and installation.

  5. Better than nuclear? How?
You realise all that fuel had to be lifted at huge cost right? The multipliers make it look horrible to say the least.
Radiation is no so much of an issue, because there is plenty of that up there anyway, so you are polluting nothing (for a sensible design) and you need the shielding anyway.

Really there no comparison. Nuclear is many many orders of magnitude better...

Most car manufacturers play exactly the same game.

A classic example is engin oil specs - why generally dont need to be particularly specific, and yet there has been an explosion of thres spec types, often specific to single manufacturers, and only available from them, until you find out that it is the EXACT SAME OIL available under 5 different 'specifications' from different manufacturers, because the oil companies dont actually make that many different types...

  13. Socialism is about reducing the maximum number of people to dependence on the state.
So it kind of is - they are just quite specific about what 'equality' is, equality is total dependence on state control and funding - basically the reduction of everyone to the lowest point, so that no one will challenge those in control 'who are doing things for the good of everyone else'

Every socialist state so far has effectively proven this, without exception.
