Yeah, maybe the rest of the industry are just idiots for not being able to throw these things together in "a week".

Failing that (and you probably will), take a visit to your local city's jewelry district. I got my wife's good sized diamond at about 1/3 the price of a jeweler. In particular I went to the jewelrly district in Los Angeles. The prices are awesome.

However, they will rip you off if you give them half a chance. Either go to someone who is recommended to you, or bring along someone who is knowledgeable. Someone who is good at negotiation doesn't hurt, either.

Actually, mankind has a GREAT track record of "getting away with stuff". There are very few instances where we've done some sort of damage that was irreversable. Obviously hunting certain species to extinction would be an example of something irreversable, but there's not that many cases of that.

The biggest fallacy of the environmental movement is that the earth's environment is fragile. Nothing could be further from the truth. If the conditions on earth were fragile, it would have been impossible for life to have survived as long as it has because the Earth has gone through natural cataclysms that make man's effects look like child's play.

That's one of the reasons that I think global warming caused by man-made processes will turn out to be a huge scientific hoax. The equilibrium processes of the Earth are much more powerful than they are given credit for. This is not to say that global warming isn't happening, only saying that mankind has little to do with it.

I'd like to see you quote the part of the constitution that says "The president is supposed to be elected by a simple majority of the public". It doesn't - but the traditional understanding is that the system is supposed to do something like that, which is why people got pissed when GWB got elected with a negative majority.

NOBODY that I know thinks the President is elected by a simply majority of the public. Maybe there is some trailer park person in Podunk who is so ignorant and so isolated that they never turn on the TV or read the newspaper where they explain it 500 times each Presidential election, but who cares?

Also I have heard very few people pissed that GWB won the election because of not having a national majority. The only griping I've heard is from people who didn't like the way the Florida ballots were counted.

Personally, I think the electoral system is a feature, not a bug, but that's an old argument that I don't feel resurrecting right now.

I'm curious about your comment about "the interests of EVERYONE", as it is quite apparent that Jack Valenti's interests are quite oppsed to the general public's interests(and rights).

Quite apparent to YOU, but obviously not to everyone. His interests are in protecting intellectual property, which makes it the interest of everyone who owns intellectual property. Like I've said multiple times, I have a very strong interest in seeing fair use rights preserved. And if his solutions do not take those into account, then I would be opposed to his particular solution.

But what you and people like you keep missing is that he has the right to protect his property against piracy. That is in the interest of every consumer, particularly THIS consumer who likes to be able to buy music, and believes that there are very real threats to the recording industry if mass unauthorized distribution gets out of control.

Finally, I wore him down, and "we" (meaning him, and I watched) built a robotic hand. It was actually pretty clever, considering the primitiveness of it. The thumb, index finger and middle fingers were completed before I FINALLY lost interest and saw that it wasn't as easy as I thought.

He basically used some steel pipe that he filed into joints, and used springs to return the fingers to the outstretched position. A cable running through the pipe connected to the end of the finger tips caused them to contract.

Unfortunately, the middle finger broke off at one point, and has been lost. For the first time on the web, here are some pictures. It was made a little under 30 years ago or so. I should have taken a picture of the fingers contracted, but I didn't think of it until now. Maybe I'll go back and add one. :)

OK, enough games. You and I both know why you won't ever take this challenge. It's because if you did any real research, you couldn't honestly put that bullshit in your bio. As long as you honestly "think it's true" without any facts, you can put it in your bio and continue to make claims so as to fool people into buying a Mac. But as soon as you try and get real facts, that game will be over, won't it? You won't be able to advocate the Mac anymore, because you'll be knowingly putting forth a lie.

Look, I have no problem if want to like Apple. You might like the design. You might like OS X. You might think that twice the price is worth it, and the performance is adequate. And that would be fine.

But this bullshit that your spewing doesn't do Apple any good. It just makes everyone think that all Apple advocates will say ANYTHING to get people to buy Apple.
