I doubt an acquittal would be "swept under the rug." Sure, the government would love that, but Assange has big allies in the media. They'd be all over that, just like they are with everything else the man does.

"Feel-good programs where everyone gets a prize and self-directed learning isn't going to make the kind of change that is needed." Exactly. High school in the US is much to easy to graduate. I will never understand how some people managed to get diplomas, and yet still know essentially nothing about the world around them.

"On their own, children can get about 30% of the knowledge required to pass exams..." Only 30%? These kids must really suck at Googling. It's kind of terrifying to imagine public schools instilling hatred of learning using the internet, like they've taught hatred of other kinds of learning.

Yea, I think this might actually be a pretty important adaptation for the formation of social groups. If, after a hunt, everyone aggressively fought over the kill, there would never be any cooperation. Without cooperation, it's doubtful our species would have lasted long.

The issue of Foie Gras is much more complicated than just "PETA said so." That's a deliberate cover-up of the truth. In reality, the method of making Foie Gras (gavage) is so grossly inhumane it's sad we continue doing it just because "it tastes good". If anyone is interested, there's a fascinating talk on TED about it.

Each party shall also provide that provisional measures may be issued, even before the commencement of proceedings on the merits, to preserve relevant evidence in respect of the alleged infringement. Then choose your own adventure books are also not art because there are rules and objectives (not dying/turning to the right page.) The way I see it video games are so rich in artistic material like graphics, music, narrative, etc., that they are art themselves.
