I still think think it's important to be aware of these things going on because other MS parteners will see how things are hopefully will be more carefull when dealing with them.
Still I think that it was important to note that the DRM conclusion is not based on any facts. The cd doesn't play so it means DRM is quietly unleashed? Maybe aliens are quietly fucking with our CD's to make us go nuts before they eat us? Or yeah, just possibly it's something not at all related to this wild guesseses, something more probable, maybe the cd player has some problem reading the CD because it has some extra info on it. But it could be anyone! Those recording companies sure can't be trusted, and that DRM shit was cooked down in hell. So while I'm bored and I can't play my CD's I'll just start a pointless discussion on Slashdot, that sure will keep some guys busy on these slow days.
someone up there said that the gloves don't actually keep you from moving but they remind you when you do move so you start doing it less. Which sounds logical to me.
I guess something good is that they get to experiment with that kind of law and if it really doesn't work out then the rest of the world would have also learned. I do feel sorry for the kids though, but they would have to ban the Internet too no? And what exactly is a violent toy? Any kind of toy could be used violently. Also it would be interesting how kinds exteriorate violent emotions, if they can't use toys and play games maybe they will be violent for real.
The only way to check this would be to mount the drive on another machine and check it there...
Or, as someone else mentioned, you can boot from a CD where you have known good copies of all the files you need to perform the security checks, copy files, etc.
With the exception of copyrights and such, I'm sure the admin would gladly have a mirror setup on slashdot in substitution for getting a $5k b/w bill.
I agree the mirror thing is a good idea. But in this case I get the feeling this guy is happy with all the attention he is getting and probably won't even take that bandwidth bill himself. How many sales do you think X10 gets now that geeks think that these cameras are cool despite the way they are marketed. And why so many X10 picutures and references? Seems a little too much. Reminds me of low-budget soap operas in my country. They are just a long and somewhat interesting add, interrupted only by shorter less interesting adds. But people do watch them and bussinesses do pay sponsorships to get on the show.
Is it me or it seems that apache 2.0 gets more bad press than the older version?. Maybe that's why almost no one is switching, 2.0 seems to be not so stable yet while 1.3 looks solid enough.
So, what happens if you send something like ld.so, or your kernel into the recycling bin?
But that makes no sense because only root could do that. And no one is stupid enough to be fooling around deleting kernels and libraries just to experiment and not expect bad things to happen. I feel the issue here is about regular users who are working with and deleting documents and stuff and not about root screwing things up.
maybe some responsibility but in the end the editor's job is to pick the good submissions and leave out the bad ones, so if he picks a dupe then it's his failure. I figure he's getting paid for htat job so we expect better from him thatn from any person who simply happens to submit a story.
This would not be as much of an issue if everyone used PGP signatures on email.
This is would not be so much of an issue if people said "WTF is a medireview?" when reading email and pasting it into their websites. So these people can't even read their own websites and you're telling them to use PGP????
i would recommend the stabalization of 2.6 before the branch of 2.7
But that makes no sense why would we have a 2.6 release if it is not yet stable? What happened in 2.5 then? Why was it changed to 2.6 if it was not stable? 2.6.0 should be a STABLE realease right?
I sometimes break Mozilla simply because I don't have a good source of information on how it works. I use this when building dynamic websites: http://msdn.microsoft.com/workshop/auth or/dhtml/re ference/dhtml_reference_entry.asp
That is the most detailed and complete DHMTL reference I have seen and I would love to have something similar for Mozilla.
If it's not easy to be standards compliant I won't because I'm not getting paid for it. I like my pages to be standards compliant but I don't like to waste hours trying to make a page work in Mozilla if I'm not getting paid for it.
but this makes no sense, when you are looking for something in Google do you really care if the page that has all the information you need is standards compliant? Hell some times I don't even care if it's in russian if I can get what I'm looking for.
But it probably wouldn't break anything as the program that uses these conections should be built in such a way that not getting a connection would not cause any errors or problems. So this test would probably be useless.
We'll just go in there and bomb them....Either we should legalize these drugs or we should fight a full-scale war. This half-assed bullshit that we're doing now is just not going anywhere. Are we fighting a war on drugs or not?
What a stupid comment. There is a huge difference between Afganistan and Colombia. US people didn't want to have their towers blown up, but they do seem to like using these drugs. So why should the US goverment punish another country because of their own people's bad habits?
This is the old "don't fight the producers, fight the consumers", which I beleive is best. If you bomb Colombia some other country will start producing cocaine. The only way to stop it is at the consumer end.
we're supposed to wait for the Columbian government to clean up that mess
Why should they? it's a US mess, they are merely taking advantage of it, as the good capitalists have taught them to.
I really don't get this, is it supposed to be funny. Just to show how old this "news" are I named my first two computers Dactyl and Ida. Ida was a 486 and is now retired, stored somewhere in my closet. Dactyl is a Amd k6-2 300 mhz which I still have for playing music and games for my brothers. My point is somehow I knew about this a long time ago. What's it doing in the frontpage?
How could you say this is a cover up if there were 2 news about it in recent days. The bug was reported, then the fix was announced, what the fuck else do you want? You need the slashdot crew to fix it for you?
It would appear that the posting security advisories on this site are not to HELP admins, but instead to bash those you don't like.
I feel this is not a security advisory site and it also is not the "admin help" site. As far as I know it's news for nerds.
They did have it on the frontpage some days ago when the bug was news. The only ones who could be complainting now would be some of the lazy admins who don't care enough to fix it before the worms appear.
I suppose it is not in the frontpage because this is not exactly interesting news to most of the people.
There is much bullshit being talked in these articles (especially the supposed FAQ), as I said in the earlier story all is based on possible but not confirmed assumptions and this guy has to learn to back his arguments with something. For example Fritz makes the key available only so long as the environment remains `trustworthy'. For this purpose, `trustworthy' means that the media player application won't make any unauthorised copies of content. That's all he does not explain how a chip in the machine would know that I'm making an unathorized copy of a file. Can't I just copy it with another program? Please man explain!
Also this is not really a FAQ, just some article formated as questions, example:
12. Scary stuff. But can't you just turn it off? 18. Ugh. What else?
Yeah right I'm sure those are frequently asked questions. Unless FAQ stands for something else this page is bullshit. I'm all against this Palladium thing but I'm not sure why as I have not seen a decent article about it yet.
I have a spanish layout keyboard so all those keys simply work. I would suppose that there are English+International keyboards that are basically in English but provide such keys?
When you set you comment threshhold by default to 3 for example then in the Threshold pulldown list you cannot see how may comments there are for lower thresholds, below the one you set the same number appers. So there is no way to know how many comments are at -1. But then why does it correctly show how many comments are at 4 or 5? This is old and wierd too.
would think that a number of different designs circulating for a single denomination of currency would infact make it easier to get away with counterfeiting.
Yes, and with foreigners who can't tell the difference between different face values and go only for the color it would be a no brainer to fool them. (excuse the awful grammar:-(

glad I have no karma to loose!

You can ask the FSF to be the holder of the copyright.
Or you can ask any of your friends to hold the copyright for you for that matter. Big deal.
With the exception of copyrights and such, I'm sure the admin would gladly have a mirror setup on slashdot in substitution for getting a $5k b/w bill.

kernel patch that cannot be explained to U.S. citizens
Who cares? They wouldn't get it anyway...
It's funny laugh!

What matters more is what percentage of the units are still running today.
agreed, of all computers I have had only 30% are still in use. And I'm not too old, that number should go down quickly soon.
I really don't get this, is it supposed to be funny. Just to show how old this "news" are I named my first two computers Dactyl and Ida.
