They can do math quite fine. It is a long standing practice in the hard drive arena to count MB / TB along 1,000 and not 1,024 byte boundaries. One is base 10, the other is binary/hex based.

As Spindle Drives increase their density(and capacity) so will SSD technology. And based on my subjective (not empirical) opinion, should be able to more than keep up with Spindle Tech.
The issue is that as these competing forces work, eventually one will win out. We are already starting to see how this is playing out, and it doesn't look good for spinning drives. One of the reasons is that there is a bunch of competing but related techs being hammered out in just the Solid State arena. So in addition to competing with Spinning drives, Solid State tech is competing with itself.
Does this mean that spinning drives are going away completely? Not any time in the next 5 years. There will be a steady decline in use, but I'm fairly certain that Spinning drives will go the way of tapes (which still exist somewhere). They are too old, too bulky, too slow, too much anything to be useful in the very long run.
I am 100% sure that there are use cases today for Cheap Dense Slow Storage. Mostly for long term/archival storage. Anything that needs access to a processor will want / require Solid State.

We have automated so much, we do it all with a staff of 12 in the IT department. It is all about being able to manage systems effectively, efficiently.
I don't claim to know it "all", but I can tell you, that I know a lot about enough, and a little about a lot.
Quality IT guys these days have loads of experience. I'm part of a team that manages 4,000 mostly Win 10 (a few Win 7, 8) and I have seen weird things on Win 10, but most (almost all) of them are stable and don't have problems updating. The rare few that do have problems updating, we simply re-image. I also realize that is not really an option for a Mom n Pop Store. On the other hand, spending $500 to repair a 5 year old computer having update problems with win 10 is also not really an option IMHO, especially when you can get a replacement for similar or slightly more. How much time / money do you spend fixing a random Win 10 update problem is up to you. But sometimes, it does take 8 hours to fix. And figuring 60/hr for quality IT support is close to that hypothetical/mythical $500 bill above.
And then after spending $500 it still might not work right. Those kind of bills are almost always able to be mitigated by proper backups (who needs those!) and understanding that data is actually more important that the Operating System. Most mom n pop outfits have to weigh the cost of having good IT vs not going broke. The problem is that is far too often a fools gamble. Don't bet against the house, it always wins.
But witnessing the loss of Paradise by fire, I also know that human kindness is so much more prevalent and way more powerful. The outpouring of people opening their homes to people, and pets is a constant reminder that most people are good and decent when times get tough.

That is to have a Doctor's Scribe follow the doctor, and fill in all the forms and such for the Doctor, so instead of doing (often mindless) paperwork ad nauseum, they can go about being an actual doctor. Paying a doctor making $100-200/hr to do paperwork actually is stupid. That time/effort could be better spent actually doing patient care.

How do I know? My eye physician does it this way. She's examining my eyes, and talking to the Scribe who is sitting at the computer inputting everything, while I'm being examined. It is extremely efficient, and allows the doctor to actually spend MORE time with me as a patient than otherwise possible while they are filling out paperwork.
