You want to force people into a new paradigm. You cannot. You must move them by showing them the way. My point in the original post is people are used to doing things a certain way, because that is what they are used to (catch 22). They don't change simply because someone tells them there is a better way.

You must SHOW them the better way. For instance, IE vs Firefox. The average M$ user doesn't know, or even if (s)he does know, doesn't NEED to change. However, if you show them a BETTER way, they will use it.

    It is experiential.

Linux will not get to the desktop until such time as one can walk into a store (or online) and buy SUPERDEEDUPER Tools for Linux for 49.95 and have it work, out of the box on all the major distros (SuSE, Redhat, Fedora, Debian ..... ).

I just won't tell you the starting offset. :D

I always imagined that Pi or one of the other irrational numbers would be a great encryption hash. Easy to gererate, remember etc, but hard to hack, since we don't know the starting offset.

It could be a nonrepeating hash or even a repeating one. All you would need to know is the starting offset, you could encrypt a very long document, with a singular and easy to remember hash point, ie Pi x 259313 r1024 would mean Pi hash starting at 259313 repeating 1024 numbers.

I am sure that some pointy head math wizard will explain why this will not work.

WHY the HELL would you bring the GOVERNMENT into this? What the HELL are you thinking. Name one thing that the Government didn't screw up the moment it stucks its fingers into the pie?

It is THIS kind of thinking that gets people the GWB and JFK (current) elected to office. If the damn government got out of the way and let people actually do stuff, things would be 10 times better.

But NOOOOO. We have to have the government regulate the HELL out of everything to the point that it multiplies the cost of doing anything.

I am willing to bet that there is at least one complaint that this is NOT good enough, and is some sort of corporate pandering, that does nothing. This trend is changing, especially in light of the quick peer review that the Inet offers, and such scandals as the whole CBS faked document issue.

Remember it took less than a day for REAL document experts to examine and expose the nature of those documents, while it took CBS nearly two full weeks to reach the same conclusion, with a certain person NEVER really able to admit that the documents are forged.

Personally, I trust the INSTANT peer review of the Inet more than CBSNBCABCCNNFOXMSNBCNYTIMES .... combined. While some of the INFO on the Inet is wrong, it is easily verifiable with alternate resources.
