Well Macmillian is all about Mandrake now I think. I've been seeing some comercials on ZDTV for Mandrake Linux. Kinda weird too. I wonder if those will ever roll over to one of the big three networks?
Start taping Showtime's Friday SciFi. that's a good stretch of shows to watch. Also 'Begger's and Choosers' as well as Sex in the City are great too. I honestly didn't watch much pay tv shows until i caught a gander at those 2 shows.
Well gee...to filter stories you would have to get a login...but that would ruin that wonderful cover of AC that you hide under. Besides that your post is just lame anyways. nVidia will release linux drivers for this thing more than likely considering they did with thier past chips (albeit a bit late). On top of all that, I haven't responded to any good flamebait lately and I'm so ill right now that you were the perfect dumbass to unleash on.
Well it looks like things are dead for now. A user who came in late to the office wanted to clean his box out but couldnt get there so I took him via the direct url and now it's saying no permission on/cgi-bin/start so it looks liketheyve closed for good.

yeah i remember that story. anon.penet.fi was shut down by the finish government i think. That was a sad day. Alot of the people on thier were survivors of sexual abuse and what not.
Because only Windows DNS lets you use underbars in domainnames;) Well Novell does too but thats a whole separate issue. Our Parent company is having a bitch of a time right now because the dumbass who came in back in the day said "Well I can't use spaces but we should call this machine foo_bar."
If i'm not mistaken didn't MS actually buy the winframe technology from Citrix to put into terminal server? As far as I know the only way to use NT 4 in this manner is via terminal server? Winframe only supports nt3.51 and down, correct? I know that while I was working for bellsouth dcs, Our remote stores ran winframe and when I asked why we hadn't upgraded them to NT4 (the only reason I asked was that ICVerify had a new version that would not run on nt 3.51 and we really needed to upgrade). Correct me if I'm wrong about the Citrix/MS stuff.
5 legal copies of vmware - $500 ( non commercial version) 5 legal copies of NT workstation (assuming you want nt workstation) $1345 (full version at $269 a copy you could skim $120 bucks if you just bought licenses on the remaining 4 copies)
Linux (only because I've never tried vmware on bsd via emulation) - free (or 1.99 per for a cheapbytes cd)
Grand total in software costs = $1845
Mind you this is all minus tax and the price on NT workstation I grabbed from an Insight catalog on the desk. This is the configuration a few of our users run. The only reason they use the vmware is for the office software or to run outlook with our shitty exchange server. But since I turned on loverly simap on the exhcange box they can read mail with netscape's mail client. As far as hardware, vmware-able machiens should have a bit more power than a standard linux ws would but really memory is where the cost would come in. Machines with 128 megs could handle it fine. At least mine does.
"The men here are every mother's dream. They're stable and well-educated, and they are wealthy. Some of them have millions and millions of dollars and no one to spend it on."
Sorry to be crass but that just pisses me off. Blatant gold digging bullshit. I hsould just go find a real hooker, at least i know what I'm not getting. Guess some guys will buy into this though.
This may have already been mentioned but I'm kinda jumpy today so I haven't read the other threads.
A couple of quotes that kinda stuck in my head.
They say that consumers must rely on trained, professional journalists to ensure a report is unbiased and free of agendas.
While it's true that slashdot makes its feeling known about certain companies, since when has journalism ever been unbiased. I can only think of a few sources where I feel like they are being unbiased and agenda-free. Everyone has an agenda and everyone has biases. Have you ever heard a news person, via the tone of his voice , or read an article , via the tone of the article, that made you subtley (sp?) feel differently about the subject in the end? I have. When we hear or read something we are called to form an opinion on it in our own minds. People will try to be subtle about swaying you but they will attempt it none the less. "Enlightened racism is still racism". People who refer to people of different ethnicity with terms, while not derogetory (sp?), are still trying to get you to believe that in the context of the point they are making, the fact that this person is whatever race, is the reason for whatever. (I know that probably made no sense but maybe SOMEONE can follow my train of thought here)
The next point that was made that bothered me was
"I still believe that people go to sites like Wired News and PC Week because they have this curiosity for the truth and this underlying belief that services [like Slashdot] don't always get it right, and they need an independent verification," said Berinato.
Hell, more often than not I find slashdot posts to be independant discrediting of the links in the stories. Peer review obvoiusly works in the scientific and medical fields, and it works here. When someone posts something obviously wrong, there is no shortage of people to point that out.
okay I htink I've babbled on enough. Bitch away.
p.s. this wasnt meant to be a slam against wired or unabashed slashdot devotion. Just something that some people may have missed.
I had Cerent on my stock list for next month. Kinda funny. Between these guys and vixel, we should see another Reback/Copper Mountain kinda ctock on the market. (for those that don't know, Vixel does fiberchannel stuff for Sun and some others)
I would suggest not using mysql under win32. As much as i dislike ms products, port the access info to mssql server. Our company's timesheet/project management portion runs on on a former access database ported to mssql. The advantage of running mssql (if there are any) is that you would have more flexibility and you can web enable the application easier. Our app was all access and once they ported to mssql, all i had to do was write some perl scripts with the Win32::ODBC module and the app was web enabled. But again I'm not advising going to mssql for all but in this situation it makes sense.
The only problem I have with mySql is that it doesnt use Foriegn Keys. They give several reasons for not using them but I'm not a DBA and the DBA's I've talked to swear by them. Could some DBA's who have used mySql as well as others that DO support foriegn keys provide some insight for me? I've got enough db experience to know that they make life alot easier.
I can't comment on the keyboard thingie but How can you not get a Hauppauge tv card working. I've gotten several different models working all with different chipsets. Admittedly it took a little effort but then again effort is too much to ask some people.
Personally file transfer is one reason I don't use ICQ. Albeit I haven't used this in forever but as a network admin, I would hate for people to start recieving files from people across a chat client. I just finished getting it engrained in thier heads not to open email attachments directly from outlook.
Actually you have to pay extra for toiletpaper SE. It's considered a feature not a bug ;)
Slashdotted?

So how long will it take ms to go hunt down the guy who owns the domain? Wonder if his server got cracked and it was posted there?
I said the same thing and then went and told all the people at the office to pull thier hotmail accounts.

Moderate my post down. I totally missed the point of his question.
Read the post next time!

Hell I would lvoe to but my company doesnt have the damn bandwidth. Thats more of the slashdot effect for me.
Wired: News for herds. Stuff that splatters.

For some reason that struck me as fsck'n hilarious.
Guess it achieved its goal

ZDTV is the way to go. Best shows. Best topics.
I can't wait for this to get stable so i can have gimp up in BeOS. I like moho but I know gimp hella better.
