Last summer we started migrating from Windows 7 SP1 to Win 8.1 Enterprise + Classic Shell and have not looked back. Zero issues - I am honestly surprised but releived. We're talking hundreds of machines used by our faculty and staff, many of whom are resistant to change. We also made sure to replace hard drives with SSDs for machines which were 3-5 years old (@$80 for Crucial 128 GB SSD). Haters going to hate...
I saw the sneak preview Monday, and I have to agree with the reviewer, that this movie was definitely better than the first one. I own Spidey 1 on DVD and have watched it a number of times. Up until Spidey 2, it was my favorite comic book movie. After seeing Spiderman 2, I am now very excited about the potential of this franchise. There are so many cameos and reasons for some people to hold a grudge against Peter/Spiderman, that by the end of the movie, you are left wondering which villain(s) will be in the third one. I am REALLY hoping to see Venom or at least Carnage in the third one, but I won't get my hopes up. One more thing I really liked about this movie - everyone did such a great job making you care about Peter/Spidey as a human. Possibly the most touching scene in the entire movie is the end of the train scene. You'll know what I am talking about if you've seen the newest commercials or the movie.
Sometimes I go hours without seeing my home in our home.. until I walk by Computer Room #1 and see her playing Sim City 3000.
I just got a Radeon 9700 Pro for our good computer, and I downloaded the demo of Far Cry. Every time I get up to do something, I come back and find her storming the beaches in Far Cry:)
You didn't really expect someone posting on Slashdot to be informed about what they were bitching about, did you? Everytime I read something about Novell, someone brings up IPX/SPX. It never fails. I don't bring up NetBeUI (oops!).
I don't know if that really matters. If they use Micro$oft products, they forego security. I don't know what, if any, security improvements SAMBA will make, but if in the end the only difference is pricing, it should be an easy decision.
I guess if it's not Linux then we can expect you to be ignorant.

In case you missed it, Novell has been going OpenSource crazy the past year, and is actively embracing Apache and Linux.
NetWare 7.0 will actually be the core NetWare services, but abstracted in such a way that they will now ru on a Linux kernel OR the base NetWare kernel.
Novell is even making their techs get certified in Linux.
It would be nice if people would stop saying "Intel this" and "Apple that"... so Intel won't have a 64-bit desktop CPU to match Apple's 64-bit desktop CPU.
There came along a cool version of the ZMODEM protocol.. I think it was like Leech ZMODEM or something like that.
Especially useful on warez sites that used uploads for credits for downloads... upload a file or two, get some download credits... use this version of ZMODEM which would download everything but the very last block (which ended up being a checksum or something "useless" if I remember), and it would then abort the download at the very end. The upside was the download would be aborted, you wouldn't lose any credits, and your download would still be complete because the last block was not ever actually written to disk. Of course, you would get some serious reprimanding when the SysOps caught on:)
Hehehe... BBSs are what got my hooked on computes in the first place. Starting frequenting them as a freshman in high school in 1991. PLaying Doors and downloading files. Tradewars was a fun game. Also used a BBS to pick up a homecoming date or two, and my first girlfriend:)
Learned to suck up to the SysOps of the "elite" WaReZ BoardZ by creating animated ANSI logos for their sites and for the ZIP comments. -=2i6=- RulEz!
I used to frequent the BBS of the dude, Jim something or other (Barry?) who wrote the Searchlight BBS software. His BBS was called Flip Flop. I chatted with him once or twice online.
BBS were also my first real introduction to porn.
Ahhh, the memories. Managed to suck up to one SysOp well enough to be come his Adult Section SysOp at the ripe old, adult age of 14. People would upload the files, and I would have the really tough job of reviewing the new uploads; if the files were good enough, I approved them and gave the uploader ample credit so he could download new files from the adult and warez sections. Tough job, but someone had to do it.
With a 2400 modem I now understand why my mom was pissed about me tying up the phone line all night long, every night:)
I used to have to bum rides home from high school sometimes, and I could usually count on one of my teammates to give me a ride back home - I just had to pass him a floppy of the previous days' porn uploads:)
I was just remembering today about how JPEG and GIF were just becoming popular, and my 386 SX-25 took like 10 seconds to display the damn picture files.
And you can use ZEN Works to distribute applications and enforce Windows User and Workstation Policies.
ZEN 3 comes with a remote-imaging service that allows you to specify which workstation objects in the NDS database (tree) should get which workstation images, and have them re-imaged automatically at a specified time.
And for you Linux nuts, it does this by installing a small Linux partition to the hard drive, booting from Linux, and then receiving the image over the network.
Free speech is good. Freedom is good. Not having to account for your actions is bad. I am sorry, but I have to side with Metallica and Dr. Dre. You are all going to hate me for saying this, but it's true. The article states that most of the people who will be targeted in the suit will be youngsters. I don't doubt that. It's about time. I don't care how you justify it, trading commercial MP3's is illegal. We all kow it. The online music distribution system needs to change, and the music industry is shooting itself in the foot by not embracing it. But until they do, the trading is still illegal. Before you all start flaming me, let me tel you up-front that I am a college student, and I used to trade MP3's, too. But I stopped a year ago. Our generation (with exceptions, of course) is turning into a bunch of greedy smart asses who don't want to take responsibilty for their actions. We all know that as long as we do illegal things as minors we expect to get away with it. I hope the threat of a lawsuit will make those think they're not invincible after all. We know what they are doing is wrong. Deal with it.
Yeah, but you do work for Microsoft, so...
I work for a mid-sized Catholic university

This being Slashdot and all, SOMEONE has to ask if it has Linux support.

We got rid of IPX here two years ago, and we had over 20,000 users, which took a little time to migrate.
Anyone still running IPX has some issues

So it looks like it makes sense after all.
You people need to get a clue.
Novell is a great company. Contrary to popular belief, there ARE other options out there besides Micro$oft $olution$ and Linux/BSD.
I guess I am in the 1% of geeks who do not use Mozilla at all, then.
I've used the 1.0 series, and while there are some nice features I have no compelling reason to switch.
Mine, too!

Why not compare AMD to Apple??
I LOVE Eclipse.
Works with JAVA (Been using it for that for awhile now), and I think C++ now.

Hehe .. I remember RIP.
... and then the Internet came and that was the end of that :)
Most people didn't like it, but it was pretty cool... EGA graphics that allowed you to use a mouse!!!

Soon, there'll be a run on water balloons ...
... carry around fart balloons in case your cell phone dies on you.

Novell's eDirectory has won Product of the Year in 2000 and 2001 for their directory services from Network Magazine.
I am looking for some more comparisons between the two.
Read about it here: Novell eDirectory Named Product of the Year
