I have been thinking of getting one of the shuttle computers and having them boot off of my lan grab linux, nfs the drive etc. In essence make it a terminal. The reason I love them so much is that they are very small, compact, can run with a C3 cpu (thus 1 less fan and even less noise) and have slots for a CD-ROM and Floppy. So my remote terminal could have a local cdrom and floppy (which I have dozens lying around). Most remote terminals cost about the same, but have no spot of cdrom or floppy (or any expandability for that matter. But doing some searching last night I wasn't able to find any information of anyone else doing that with the shuttle computer.

Next week at the Intel developers converace there might be one also. (Don't know for sure, but I know for sure I will be there! Stop by the Sharp booth and say Hi!). For those of you who _really_ _really_ want the Documents tab that is on the A300 I can tell you right now that the A300 ROM is not compatible with the 5500 so don't try. If you do try you 5500 will die and will cost you $500 or however much you paid for it. (Although you could rip apart the rom, grab the launcher exe and get the english translations off the cd or course this isn't supported by sharp, probably wont work, use at your own risk, it might explode in a nuclear reaction and it wouldn't be there fault bla bla bla). BUT you can put Open Zaurus on your 5500. For those of you who hang out on IRC in the #Zaurus you will know that the A300 currently has no plans to come to the USA, but there is a different pda coming to the us. The only information known about it for _sure_ is that it has an xscale. Anything else that anyone tells you is just made up cr.. to make them seem like they know something they don't.

I myself have given a half dozen seminars. While at RIT I have to say that I learned more from these seminars then I did in classes. Frequently the speaker would compress down an entire course into 2 hours and because you actually wanted to goto this seminar you would pay attention, take notes and ask questions (gasp!). Requests for seminars would frequently get filled. Some seminars that I can remember include: OpenGL Programming, BeOS Programming, CVS/Perforce, Securing Linux, UML, Intro to Linux (A Geek intro, not mom&pop intro), Qt Programming, UI Design, OS Design, Computer science theory, logic, compression algorithems, genetic algorithms, DNA computing, neural networks, parallel computing, network design, network programming, and java. (We don't just sit down in a room with 10 mom's and do ui studies.) So even though Corel is no longer sending in reports kde still has someone working on improving the ui.

We have also started an app of the week on the mailinglist. So come every Monday we all take a look at one of the kde applications and begin to make up a lists of changes that should be implimented to make the application better. By the end of the week the majority of these changes have been handed off to someone who will get them into cvs. If you are interested in helping out in this effort or just interested in writing up a list of things in an application that don't follow the ui standard head on over to the website and join the mailinglist. Can't code, but want to help out in kde? This might be a perfect spot for you to contribute.

We are also working on improving the website to allow for usabity reports to be given just like the current kde bug report system so you can submit items with minimal effort.

With a normal mouse you mover your wrist all around, but with a trackball you use your thumb for everything. This drematicly reduces the amount of stress on your wrists. Granted it took me two weeks to be able to master it and another month to get my gimp skills back, but it was worth it. Unfortunetly for you lefties it is a little harder to find a trackball, but give it a shot.
