to reduce the demand for coltan (the ore where much of the tantalum for capacitors comes from) which is causing huge problems for countries like the republic of congo
Not to mention its future usage for the Terminators' endoskeletons! What are those guys thinking?!
A sociologist originally from Shanghai, Dr Cao told the BBC: "There are many millions of graduates but they are mandated to publish so the numbers [of papers] are high.
The Courier's form factor resembles more an ordinary laptop than a real slate - the laptop is a 'clamshell' design too. The idea of the slate is that you don't have to open and close it, and that you can hold it with one hand while standing. The Courier lacks the very features that differentiate the iPad from regular laptops. So people who would rather buy a Courier than an iPad, would probably also rather buy an ordinary laptop than the Courier anyway.
I don't understand why they decided to compare the embedded browsers. "Ya, we'll go and compare Android and iPhone browser. But we won't compare the real browser, cause that would be too boring. Instead we'll compare the embedded browser, so if our assumption that it's the same turns out to be wrong, we'll become a laughing stock."
Seriously if I were doing this test, it would have never even occured to me NOT to use the real browsers in the first place.
One of the good things about having the GPU integrated in the processor chip itself is you don't have to go through the bus, so this reduces latency and leaves more bandwidth for everything else.
The rich don't really own their money. It belongs to the Government, and every dollar not taken is a gift. If the Government takes 90% of their money in taxes, it's still giving them a 10% tax break. Any tax below 100% for the rich is a tax break. Where on Earth did you get this idea that the rich have a right to their money?
I agree with you on that, some of his dialog and descriptions tend to be repetitive and overly detailed. But I was talking about the 'overall story arc'. His books do have one. It might be slow, it might be protracted, but it is there. Books 8 though 11 books were about Perrin saving his woman, Elayne taking the throne, Egwene taking Tar Valon, and Mat marrying the Seanchan heiress. That's the story arc. It's just that 1 book worth of story was relativistically stretched into 4 books:)
It does not read as though he is just making it up as he goes along, copying and pasting previous story segments while slightly changing the names and circumstances as a shortcut.
Are you sure you don't mean Mr. Goodkind here? Because this sounds like a lot better description of him.
Your logic is faulty. First, the worker might spend the money later. Second, the money is put in a bank, which lends it, so someone else will spend it. And third, if the worker really never spent his money, then he has worked for free, which makes everyone else better off. Or do you think charities who work for free are harmful for the economy?
This doesn't work any more. North Koreans often go across the border to China to trade/work/get help from relatives who live in China, so news slowly trikles into North Korea, mostly in the form of rumours.
It's been frustrating me as well, having to always close the download bar after a download finishes. But I don't see what could be done, may be a shortcut for closing it?
Typing the site name sans the "http://www." and ".com" in Google is actually quicker because the the time it takes to load the Google results and click on the first result is shorter than typing those extra lettters. Plus you get automatic immunity from typo squatters. I doubt calling directory assistance would be quicker.
I've heard this before, but for me at least it doesn't work. There is nothing below the advertisements to subscribe. I have a different computer where I had done some trick from a tutorial to make it look like Google bot, and it works there, but not on my new computer. It's not really that important though as Google Cache works.

Does it really matter that much? It's a phone at the end of the day. I have a Nokia 5800 right now, and it's slow and it runs Symbian v2, but it still plays songs and has a browser and a camera. There wouldn't be much difference for me if it ran Linux instead as I would use it basically for the same things.
Qt should be fine, too much heavyweight software uses it
Yes, Skype for example uses Qt.

I've never seen a single event get so many articles in Slashdot in so many consecutive days. And that considering Nokia supposedly isn't very popular in the USA, why do americans care so much what do they do? Or are there only europeans posting here:)
I wonder if I can do a site that loads javascript that loads and reformats Google's search results, and then inserts my own ads, and make it a Google competitor. My search results would be good, too.

You get what you measure.

At least Twitter now has the option for https.
Or in other words, their new CEO isn't an ex-microsoftie.
Do US Banks tweet?

Groupon's sales reps themselves advise merchants to "temporarily" double the retail price of their goods so they can offer 50% "discounts".
That trick is done a lot in my country. But my country is also likely the only one where there are holiday price *hikes*.

I'm not a fan of the /sarcasm-off tag but may be I should have put it :)

I like Google and I'd like them to win

May be Yahoo should do that :D
... without paying them a share of the ad revenue, as they currently do?
